Established in 1949, and currently has 13 faculties and 3 colleges with around 38000 students. Consistently rated among the top Ten Indian Public Universities Offers under‐graduate, post‐graduate and doctoral programs in the areas and fields of arts and culture, business, law, medicine, social work, science and technology International academic collaborations with well‐known universities and institutions across the globe Mobility: 15‐20 international students at a time Erasmus Mundus: GATE and EUPHRATES Credit Recognition : The Indian Scenario • In India, universities follow three types of academic structure... o Annual Pattern [a large number of traditional regional universities] o Semester System [most of the professional courses including management and engineering] o Choice Based Credit System [very few universities] • Still, a very few universities have guidelines/policies towards recognition/transfer of credits. • Most of such universities/institutes are either with high national ranking or newly setup private universities • However, in recent times, more universities are now adopting Choice Based Credit System. • The MS University of Baroda follows CBCS and has adopted the mechanism of credit transfer similar to ECTS. Problems faced with Credit Recognition • Challenges in Matching the Semester Schedule In India… Odd Semester ‐ July to December Even Semester ‐ January to June • Varying Evaluation and Grading Systems • Appearing in Mid‐Semester and End Semester Exams is mandatory • Evaluation and credit transfer takes longer time due to centralized exam system • For Incoming Exchange Students in India, proficiency of English is largely adequate • For Outgoing Exchange Students from India, learning and adaptability to basic knowledge of the local language of the host university is a big challenges Solution set up in order to facilitate the credit recognition Incoming: • Flexible in matching the semester schedule • Options of earning credits from a wide range of subjects across faculties • Conversion of grades as per the requirement of the home university Outgoing: • Only 60% weightage to matching courses in a semester • Subject‐wise equivalence committee for fast track verification and recognition of the credits earned by the students at the host university Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta, Indonesia JWARCT – Siem Reap, 14‐15/11/2014 y Founded on December 9, 1949, UGM is the oldest and largest state university in Indonesia. y Currently it has 18 faculties, 1 vocational school and 1 school of graduate studies comprising of 68 undergraduate study programs, 28 diploma study programs and 62 Graduate Programs y It has 55,000 students, 880 foreign students from 39 countries, 2,300 employees, and 2,260 lecturers y Actively involved in more than 9 regional and international networking s (AUN, ASAIHIL, ASEA-UNINET, INHEP, SYLFF, SEAMEO-SEARCA, AC21, Erasmus Mundus, NOHA, SATU, IIE) ¾ It is located in the Special Region of Yogyakarta has been widely known as the center of Javanese culture as well as the center of learning. ¾ Affordable living cost and housing (Euro 35 - 60) per month ¾ Modern campus environment surrounded by traditional villages with distinctive traditions ¾ “City of Tolerance” and Multicultural society ¾ Our values: “Knowledge and skills for civilization, usefulness and happiness” y Challenges: 9 It is evidence that each university has its own curriculum which is potentially different from others. e.g. list of subjects, syllabi, amount of credits, etc. 9 We realize that in some study programs, information on subject as well as syllabi available in the web are not enough. 9 Sometimes the academic calendar appears a bit late. 9 Unified credit transfer agreement so far is not yet available. Actions 1. Communication and coordination among academic directorate, office of international affairs, and faculties are being intensified to address those challenges. 2. ACTS (ASEAN Credit Transfer System) is now under consideration in University management people. 9 It is a student-centered system applied to student mobility among AUN Member Universities. 9It has been designed to accommodate differences in the implementation of credit system among the member universities without any requirement to modify the existing institutional or national credit system. 9Same subjects, similar subjects and completely different subjects are transferable. The following formula is used for calculating the Grade Point Average(GPA) for a semester. GPA=TCP/TCH=G1 *C1 + G2*C2 +…………../C1+C2+………. Where G1,G2 etc. stands for Grade point obtained in specified subject and C1,C2 stands for Credit Hours of respective subjects mentioned in course structure.
