President’s
Report
by Tom Elum
Welcome!
Another Pool League Season
is upon us! I’d like to welcome
all of our players and wish
everyone “good luck” in their
local leagues!
I’m back for my second term
as President of this incredible
Association. It will be my pleasure working with all of you
and any ideas or suggestions
that you have, please feel free
to contact me.
The last few weeks have been
a very trying time for me. I lost
my wife of 47 years to cancer
on August 4th. Trying to adjust
to life without her is going to
be one of the hardest things
that I’ve ever had to do. But
being involved as the VNEA
President for the next two
years and being around such
a wonderful group of people is
going to be a great tonic.
Again, I hope that everyone
has a great VNEA Pool League
Season!

REGIONAL EVENTS
North Bay, Ontario / by Bonnie Zufelt
Junior Provincial 8-Ball Titles Declared
The 1st Annual Ontario Open Junior 8-Ball Championships were held in North Bay on July 19-20, 2013. Two days of nerve “rackin” play
showcased some of Ontario’s finest young players including players from North Bay, Ottawa and London. There were three divisions for singles
competition: Major, Minor, Youth. In Team play, players competed in both a Major and Minor Division.
Youth Singles Division:
In Youth Singles action, Nicolas Raymond from North Bay had to battle in this 14 player group to become this year’s Provincial Champion.
Raymond qualified for the finals with 4 straight wins, defeating Cameron Robb, Angelina Stone, Jonah Johnson and in the quarter-finals, defeated eventual third place finisher Riley
Labreche, also from North Bay. Raymond’s opponent in the finals was another North Bay entry, Evan Derosier. Raymond only needed the first set to take the title.
Derosier took the long road to the finals after losing his 2nd match to Riley Labreche. Derosier then bounced back and went on to win his next five matches to advance to the finals. Finishing in 4th place was Will Patterson.
Minor Singles Division:
In this 12 player division, Karim Attia from Ottawa was declared the champion. Attia started the day by defeating Ty Georgei from Cambridge then went on to defeat Matt Bedard from
North Bay then Nicholas Ridley and Brenden Coenjarts from London to advance to the finals.
Karim Attia’s opponent in the final was Adam Cucullo of North Bay. Cucullo won his first match of the tournament against fellow North Bayite Kendra Monkman then lost his next outing
to Ridley sending him to the loser’s side of the bracket. Cucullo got back on track winning his next four matches to make it to the semi-final. In the semi’s, he defeated third place finisher
Coenjarts by a score of 3-1.
The final match with Attia and Cucullo was over in the first match with Attia handing Cucullo a 3-0 loss. Finishing in fourth place was Ty Georgei.
Major Singles Division:
The Major Division title went to David Moyer of London who defeated Tim Bristow from Ottawa in the final. Moyer went through the tournament without a loss, starting off by defeating
Shaiana Thibault and Danielle Couroux from North Bay. In his next outing, Moyer defeated fellow London player Stuart McTaggart, sending him to the B side of the bracket.
Tim Bristow of Ottawa advanced to the finals against Moyer by defeating Tyler Moring and Taylor Thomason from North Bay. Morgan then lost to McTaggart and was sent to the B side.
Morgan bounced back and defeated North Bay’s Thibault and Ryan Derosier then in a semi-final re-match, defeated McTaggart who finished in third place.
The final match up of Bristow and Morgan only needed one set with David Moyer winning by a score of 3-0. Finishing in fourth place was Ryan Derosier.
Minor Team Division:
It was an all North Bay finish in this 2-player team event with Sean Larivee and Taylor Patterson taking the title, going through the tournament without a loss until the final. They
opened the tournament with a win over Jonah Johnson and Logan Langois. Next they defeated Chris Larivee and Peter McKay before losing to Riley Labreche and Mathieu Bedard and a
trip to the B side of the bracket. Labreche and Bedard were now guaranteed a spot in the final.
Once on the B side, Patterson and Larivee wasted little time getting back to their winning ways and defeated Johnson and Langois in the semi-finals to set up a rematch with Bedard and
Labreche. The final was a hard fought battle with Patterson and Larviee taking the 1st set by a score of 42-33 and forced a sudden death overtime match. It was Patterson and Larivee
emerging as the victors winning by a close score of 51 to 46 to take the title.
Finishing in third was Jonah Johnson and Logan Langlois and fourth place went to Chris Larivee and Peter McKay.
Major Team Division:
Karim Attia and Tim Bristow of Ottawa took top honors in the Major Division, going through the tournament without a loss until the final.
Attia and Bristow started off by defeating North Bay’s Ryan Lindenbach and Shaiana Thibault. In their next outing they defeated the team of David Moyer and Stuart McTaggart of London
who they would see again in the final. In their next outing they defeated Nicholas Raymond and Will Patterson from North Bay to advance to the finals.
McTaggart and Moyer raced through the B side of the bracket by defeating North Bay’s Adam Cucullo and Kendra Monkman, Nicholas Ridley and Brenden Coenjarts of London and in the
semi-final defeated the team of Raymond and Patterson.
The final was another close affair with McTaggart and Moyer handing Attia and Bristow a 40-25 loss in the first set. Not to be outdone, Attia and Bristow bounced back in the sudden death
match and easily won by a score of 40-13. Third place went to the team of Nicholas Raymond and Will Patters and fourth place finishers were Nicholas Ridley and Brenden Coenjarts.

TABLES, DOGS, PYRAMIDS & CAMELS!
For many of us the adjectives “merry” and “happy” are still ringing in our heads after
several weeks and even months of festive events and fellowship gatherings. When
laughter is added to the mix, these two words take on an enhanced meaning. Victor
Borge, a consummate performer as a comedic pianist, once quipped a great line –
“laughter is the shortest distance between 2 people”. Proverbs 17:22 states: “a merry
heart does good like medicine”. As a “Doctor of Billiardology” I often prescribe
laughter, as the “essence of humor”, to help “heal and bond” hearts during varied
“game and life” experiences.
Many years ago McDermott engraved over a dozen “excuses for losing and / or not
playing up to one’s best expectations” on the butt of one of their cue sticks. Among
them were funny lines such as: stick is too long (near butt cap), stick is too short (near joint),
pool balls are dirty, and the ever popular “table must be out of level.” I have several stories
relating to my own list of “humorous excuses” to share with you. Please feel free to
laugh if so inclined, but keep in mind that some of these situations have “residual effect
humor” to them. You will read the text now without effect, but in about 2 weeks you
will be “rolling in laughter” as the humor sets in. My prescription for that is to “use 2
cues and call me in the morning”!
I was playing for a free trip to Vegas on a table that had an extreme slate roll – the cue
ball would “circle back” to you if hit at a certain speed. I was shooting the ball before
the 8-ball, but could not get good position via normal methods because of my opponent’s object balls. I remembered “the roll”, which was close to my shot. If I played
the “right” speed, I could make my ball, with the cue ball “circling back” between two
of my opponent’s balls to get perfect shape on the 8-ball. Click - Vegas bound! My
opponent could not believe that the table cost him that game and match. I guess it’s a
matter of perspective and learning to play “the roll”. Funny!
Once I was accused of “kicking” a table to help make a ball sitting near a pocket.
After the referee confirmed that the ball had dropped by cue ball contact and not by
me kicking that 1300 pound piece of furniture, I felt much better. When the person
reminded me again much later that I had “kicked” the table, I offered to give back my
prize money if he felt in his heart that it had in fact happened. He did not take me up
on the offer, so that ended another funny “table” situation!
Other “table excuses” when I do shows in an effort to get some laughter are: must be a left-handed table, pockets are moving, hit the ball perfect – pocket is in wrong place, magnets in pockets must be
turned off, table rolls affected by air currents in the room, table is “too long” or “too short”, and table is “too far from” or “too close to” the audience. Please, use freely!
One of the funniest situations that turned into a perceived “excuse” that has been laughed about many times was when a “dog” ate my glasses just prior to a 3 Cushion tournament I was
scheduled to play in. Staying with friends the night before the event, I put my glasses on a small table next to the bed. In the morning the glasses were on the floor with “chew marks” on the
lens and frame – sad, but true… and a very humorous story!
A latest episode was when my journey deep inside a “pyramid” in Egypt affected my
stance and balance while I was playing over a month later. The Egypt and pyramid
connection did occur, in which I made an unwise jump inside the tomb landing on
the stone floor and stressing my left leg. After that I road a camel, which I am sure is
affecting my billiard game in some way. OK, I’ll use the “camel” excuse in a pinch!
“Ms. Cue” and I hope you enjoy a “merry” heart, experience some special “happy” times,
and learn to “laugh” more as you share the joy of your spirit with others until next time
when…

setting for our 23rd Annual event. The facility
boasted plenty of floor space and nice bleacher
seating for the parents and fans.
80 Valley Pool Tables were neatly arranged throughout the arena including (6) highlighted tables making up the sought-after Finals Arena.
At noon sharp on Thursday, the VNEA opened its tournament doors, as
usual, to hundreds of juniors lined up outside to begin their practice
routines for the Singles event that would begin that evening. For the
first time at our Junior Championships, the entire event was run using
our incredibly popular Compusport Software Program. There were
(4), 42” monitors set up on the Control Stage where players could enter
their names and see exactly who they played, when they played and
what table they played on. Players were able to play their matches, scan
their scoresheets, instantly see their next match and play continuously
throughout the entire event. The system was flawless and the players
absolutely loved it! At 6:00pm sharp, Singles matches began and the
event was officially underway!
At 9:00am on Friday morning, the Singles matches continued with everyone trying to make it to the Finals Bracket of their division. Throughout the day, incredible matches were witnessed throughout the room
with no one wanting to get knocked out of this prestigious event.
Both singles and team competition for the weekend were broken down
into 3 divisions:
Youth - Ages 9-13; Minor - Ages 14-17; Major - Ages 18-20
Male Singles events recorded 163 entries while the female singles had
46 entries. In total, 214 shooters would square-off in a double elimination format that would lead to some great shooting and refreshing
sportsmanship.
The Team competition, consisted of 60, 3-player squads. These great
numbers represented an incredible 20 Charter Holders from an impressive 9 States and Ontario, Canada. This made up for a total of over 250
ENTRIES in the team and singles events.
State Representation
Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, Pennsylvania,
South Dakota & Wisconsin
International Representation
Ontario, Canada
After playing all day Friday, the pool playing group was treated to a funfilled Players Reception that evening at 7:00. Players were able to relax,
grab a slice or two of pizza and a soda.
Those top juniors who found themselves still in the thick of the singles
tournament action, would prepare to battle it out in the finals brackets of
the regular competition.
When the dust finally settled on the arena floor, the following young
shooters were crowned the 2013 Int’l VNEA Singles Champions:

At 8:30am on Saturday morning, the VNEA welcomed the Teams with its
traditional Opening Ceremonies which includes an impressive “Parade
of Flags” featuring all of the states and countries involved. As in years
past, VNEA Director of Marketing & Promotions Brian Elliott welcomed
the hundreds of players and family members to the team tournament.
Starting by complimenting the Charter Holders and the junior players
themselves for making this year a special event. Brian also thanked the
junior teams for wearing terrific team uniforms this year and applauded
the players for their classy attire. Elliott then continued the ceremony by
recognizing the 2013 Singles winners and presenting them with their
well-deserved trophies. This years awards were incredible “Charlie
Cougar” acrylic statues that were, again, the hit of the weekend! As
flash-bulbs lit up the arena floor, so did the player and parent smiles
and pride. It was also a pleasure to have Dave Courington from Valley in
Richland Hills, Texas on hand during the ceremony and throughout the
weekend.
There was a total of 36 beautiful GW Cues that were given away to the
Top 4 places in the 3 divisions of team play. Dave Pearson donated
these great cues as well as 72 GW Cases! Thank you so much, Dave.
There were also 27 Cues and Cases (compliments of Valley) that
were given to the winners and runner-up’s of the competitive minitournaments throughout the weekend. Fantom Cues were also donated,
by Link Pendley, for the winners of our ever-popular Junior/Junior
Scotch Doubles.
Shannon Benson and John Stich from High Country Promotions did a
terrific job with table set-up and tear-down as well as daily maintenance.
Junior Referees Jim “Woody” Woodside and Nils McConnell ran a
remarkably smooth tournament with the help of Melena Thompson and
Becky Minshall who did a great job at this awesome event.
Next, twelve anxious youths participated as flag bearers in the annual
“Ceremony of Flags” and the U.S. and Canadian anthems were proudly
played. This part of the ceremony is very important to the players as they
all take great pride in their state, province and country.

to the VNEA Junior Program!
Speed Pool
Dave “The Ginger Wizard” Pearson was on hand throughout the weekend
conducting exciting and fast-paced Speed Pool qualifiers (who can run a rack of
15 balls in the fastest time). Dave’s goal was to crown Champions in each of the

Thousands of pool players have displayed their talents in
VNEA Leagues throughout the U.S. and abroad since the
inception of the VNEA in 1980. Our players are all very
important.
However, not all of these players will ever join the ranks of
Willie Mosconi, Shane Van Boening or Allison Fisher. But,
a handful of them possess an incomparable desire to accomplish goals that far exceed an average pool players expectations. For these extraordinary players, and also players with
other special skills, the VNEA Hall of Fame was created in
1993. With 101 fine members already in place, the Hall promises to be a fraternity of honor and excellence.
If you believe that a player in your league system is deserving
of being titled a Hall of Famer, we encourage you to complete
this Official Ballot and return it to VNEA Headquarters by
January 25th, 2014. Taking into consideration the comments
on your ballots, the Awards Committee will choose the most
deserving players for the Hall. Those who are chosen will be
highlighted in a future issue of “8-Ball News & Views”. Be
sure to return “your nomination” TODAY!
Take This Opportunity To Nominate!
With nearly 100,000 league players in the VNEA, only 5 new
members will forever be etched in our prestigious history

R IN MEMORY OF A VNEA LEGEND
by Gregg Elliott
Roger Rasmussen
Roger Rasmussen, past President of the VNEA,
passed away on July 27th, 2013 at the age of 78.
VNEA was very, very fortunate to have had Roger’s
involvement and hours of volunteer help for nearly two decades.
I first met Roger, a long-time pilot, when he flew to Bay City,
Michigan to meet with Chuck Milhem,Valley President, in 1988.
The VNEA was going through a very rough time when its
current President had been caught embezzling and put the
Association in dire straits.
Roger and his son Randy, in an emergency call, flew to the former President’s business, collected all of the Association
materials and pulled the Association together as best as humanly possible for the mess that was dealt them.
Shortly thereafter, Roger volunteered to fly his plane to Bay City to meet with Chuck to interview a young gentleman for
the position of Executive Director to help stabilize VNEA and get it back on the path to substantial growth.
Roger even stopped a couple of times on his way from Minnesota to pick up major VNEA icons, Dick Hawkins and Gene
Urso for this very critical meeting.
They ended up hiring a CPA as Executive Director but more importantly Roger volunteered to move into the Presidency
during this time of turmoil and lead the Association to new heights.
I was fortunate to have visited Roger, stay at his home, and meet his extraordinary family.
Roger was blessed with an extremely wonderful wife, Lois, who also served many, many years on the VNEA Executive
Committee. Roger was an awesome family man and his son, Randy, at the time was following in his Dad’s footsteps and
also volunteered many hours to support the VNEA.
Roger was always eager to get involved and help out in any way possible. He was even host operator to one of the very
early VNEA Junior Tournaments in 1994.
Roger stayed involved with VNEA for many years even after his retirement by attending our semi-annual Board Meetings
and many Annual Las Vegas Championships.
Roger for many years was a contracted truck driver and I remember talking to him numerous times about his adventures
as he always had a great story and most importantly a life suggestion that always proved to be very valuable. God did not
make them any better than “Rog”.
On August 28th, 2013 at 6:00pm EDT, please join Chuck Milhem and myself as we share a Worldwide Toast
in memory of our great, great pal and VNEA Legend Roger Rasmussen.

Some Little Secrets About AIMING
By Jerry Briesath
Most amateur players don’t do much serious aiming on a shot until they get bent over into their shooting position. They will then put the cue tip up to the ball and start the aiming process. This involves
adjustments of 1 or 2 inches sometimes to get the cue stick lined up on target with the object ball.
Making those big adjustments after getting into the shooting position creates a lot of missed shots.
The pro’s do their aiming in a better and simpler process. The first thing a professional player does
before bending over is to line his chin up in a three-point straight-line consisting of the chin, the center
of the cue ball and where the center of the cue ball will be when it arrives at the object ball. Now is a
very important part. As the pro bends over into his or her shooting position the eyes must continually
travel between the cue ball and the object ball to keep the chin on that line, so that when he or she slides
the cue tip up to the cue ball the accuracy is already within an eighth of an inch of perfect.
So you can see that little trick of keeping the chin in perfect alignment as the body is bending over into
the shooting position is what helps a professional player achieve perfect aim the first time the cue tip
slides up to the cue ball.
You can try this little trick yourself by placing a cue ball on the spot and an object ball a diamond up the
rail from the far corner pocket. Do the little aiming trick described above, slide the cue stick up to the
cue ball for 2 seconds, then close your eyes for one second and shoot the shot. After the first 2 seconds
of aiming your accuracy should be close enough to either make the ball or rattle the ball in the pocket.
Doing this little exercise should definitely help your accuracy on all shots.

With the Singles competition in the history books, the VNEA was well prepared
to recognize them at the ever-popular VNEA Team Opening Ceremonies
Celebration. Gary Benson, Tournament Director and emcee, was welcomed by
over 3,000 players attending this incredible show which opened with a colorful
parade of flags from around the world, and the Singles Awards Presentation to
honor the top players accomplishments. Once all of the states and countries
were acknowledged and the Singles winners were presented with their coveted
Charlie awards, the VNEA had a drawing for a Valley Home Pool Table. The
lucky winner was James Esparza from Eagle Vending in Tucson, Arizona and
was awarded the table by Valley’s Dave Courington.
With 96 members already enshrined in the hall, it was time for the VNEA to add
5 more names to the prestigious “VNEA Hall of Fame”. Receiving this tremendous honor, along with a beautiful Hall of Fame jacket, certificate and limited
edition VNEA Hall of Fame trading card set, were the following inductees:
•
•
•
•
•
Bob Basset - Aactive Coin (Manitoba)
Charles Castonguay - Alliance (Quebec)
Dawn Fital - Coin-Op Specialist (MI)
Beth Fondell - D & R Star (MN)
Kale Woodside - V.V.S. (NE)
When the 2013 “Charlie’s” had all found a home, it was time to “kick it up
a notch” with some serious partying and the rock & roll sounds of the band
“The Strip”. This popular, high energy band rocked the lot well into the night
entertaining the crowd with their flashy, Vegas style show.
The Team competition kicked off Tuesday morning right on schedule. Nearly
600 teams participated in the Team events at this 33rd Annual Championships.
Results of the Sports, Redemption, Regular, Intermediate and Masters Team
events were as follows:

2nd Annual “World Team Championships”.
For the second year in a row, the VNEA conducted the fun and exciting World
Team Championships! Countries put together one, four-person team to represent their flag. Australia, USA, Spain, Portugal, Bermuda, Canada and Germany
all formed teams for a chance to win the coveted “World Cup” Trophy. When the
dust cleared, it came down to Australia and Germany in the finals with TEAM
GERMANY capturing the “World Cup” title. Congratulations to all of the teams
that participated in this fun-filled and exciting event.
VNEA President’s Reception.
Charter Holders and special dignitaries were invited to the annual President’s
Reception earlier in the week in honor of VNEA President David Hawkins
from Austin, Minnesota.
An entertaining pianist from a nearby “Dualing Piano’s” Bar played in one of
Bally’s scenic “Sky Rooms” during the events popular Cocktail Hour. His music
served as a relaxing backdrop for the evening.
The VNEA also made available four tables stocked full of VNEA “Silent Auction”
items. The guests love purchasing these unique treasures and the VNEA Junior
Program loves the generous donation. Thanks to everyone who participated.
Lifetime Sanction Cards were presented to four VNEA long time contributors. The cards exemplify a lifetime of commitment to the VNEA and were issued
to Dave Hawkins (D & R Star - MN), Dave Townsend (TX), John Fisher
(SML - Alberta) and Bob Glen - Ontario. Congratulations to these deserving
individuals.
Also highlighted at the reception was the presentation of the 2013 Warren
Kelley Meritorious Service Award. In memory of Warren Kelley, a great
believer in the VNEA, this is the highest award given by the VNEA. Accepting the
award at this years ceremony were long-time VNEA supporters Dick & Mona
Inglis from Inglis Coin in Boise, Idaho. Congratulations, Dick and Mona.
The President’s Choice Award, presented by current VNEA President David
Hawkins, was awarded to longtime VNEA Charter Holder, Bob Thomas, from
Minnesota Pastime in Virginia, Minnesota. Dave honored his old friend for
his dedication to the VNEA. Congratulations Bob and thank you for your many
contributions.
Another unique feature of the VNEA Championships was the Team Uniform Award.
This award was named the “Red Jones” Team Uniform Award in 1997 after Mr. Pool, Red
Jones, passed away. Red was always known for his classy wardrobe around the tournament room and it was an honor to keep his name alive by permanently affixing it to this
award.

Many teams, from all over the world, concentrated hard on having a unique tournament look. Several interesting and one of a kind fashions were unveiled. The women’s competition was
strong which made it very difficult to pick a winner. The women’s winner, and perennial favorite, was Alaska Girls Gone Wild from Tri Valley Vending in Wasilla, Alaska whose members
included Veronica Hereimi, Yvonne Powell, Tammie Kerby, Debbie Criss and Barb Glick. On the men’s side, Color Of Money, also from Tri Valley Vending captured first prize. Team
members included Mohammed Hereimi, Damien Turchetto, Billy Stephan, Milan Janulek, T.J. Frank and Richy Orem. Free “Team Photos” were e-mailed to every entry and the winners
were given “Free Banquet Tickets”.
Professional Pool Instructor Mr. Jerry Briesath was on hand throughout the week to give instruction and answer questions. Briesath, taking his Pool School on the road, is always a
crowd favorite as he teaches his techniques in a very intimate setting which makes him very understandable and in tune with the players. Jerry’s room was a popular spot throughout the
tournament week.
Tom “Dr. Cue” Rossman brought his Artistic Pool show to the big VNEA show. The Doctors fast-paced, energy filled shows always draws a crowd as he grips you with his highly
skilled pool artistry and witty lingo. The 19th Annual VNEA International Artistic Pool Championship created quite a stir as hundreds of entries from around the world embraced the idea of
the Dr. Cue Classic Artistic Pool Tour with its low entry fees, guaranteed prize fund, and an opportunity to become part of a much bigger picture for this growing sport. Players have long
expressed a desire to take their passion for “Artistic Pool” to the next level and beyond. In this regard, a new format was designed by the Doctor... a simple LAG CONTEST. By simplifying
the contest, everyone in the tournament could take a shot at the title and have a great chance of winning. When the final playoffs were done, we had winners in Shootout #1 (during Singles)
and Shootout #2 (during Teams). Congratulations are in order for all players that “took the Artistic Pool Challenge”. Those players capturing titles were as follows:
Shootout #1:
1st - Juston Salcido (Bozeman, MT) - $160
2nd - Bill Watson (Morrill, NE) - $120
Shootout #2:
1st - Ed Wyse (West Unity, OH) - $160
2nd - Steve Portelance (Calgary, Alberta) - $120
Another very worthwhile event took place during the 33rd Annual event - The VNEA “Cues For Kids” Program. Many gracious companies donated cues, cases, clothing, etc. to be
raffled off during the tournament with the proceeds going directly to the growing VNEA Junior Program. Thank you very much to the following companies that donated merchandise:
VALLEY...
Connoisseur Of Custom Cues, Discount Custom Leather,
GW Cues, J & J America, Omega Billiards, On-Site Stress Relief, Palmer Cues, Speed Break Contest, The Custom Cue Connection
The Team competition concluded in the early afternoon on June 1st. It was now time to start preparing for the highly anticipated 33rd Annual VNEA Awards Banquet and Entertainment Extravaganza. When the doors opened at 4:45p, the players walked into an awesome setting which included a sparkling and modern stage surrounded by old-school Las Vegas
props which set the tone for the night!
As always, the players were treated to their pick of over a dozen beverage stations, and the great sounds of the Blues Brothers. Also, an incredible buffet style dinner was served to the
party-goers. The act entertained the crowd throughout the hour long cocktail party and then hung around to greet the players and have their pictures taken with them.
Once again serving as the 33rd Annual emcee was VNEA’s Director of Marketing & Promotions Brian Elliott. Brian made sure that each and every award winner received their accolades
and with the brilliantly lit set, everyone who stepped on the stage knew that they were part of something special. Brian also spontaneously showered the guests with hundreds of dollars of
casino chips throughout the evening.
An incredibly entertaining slide show of the weeks activities was compilated by Britt Pearson Photography of Las Vegas which documented a lot of the weeks tournament festivities and this
was shown to the party goers to great crowd approval.
Gregg Elliott, VNEA Executive Director, acknowledged the remarkable Manufacturer/Supplier members that help support the growth of the VNEA International Championships by displaying
their products during the tournament. They included: Connoisseur of Custom Cues, Discount Custom Leather, GW Collection, J & J America, Omega Billiards, On-Site Stress Relief,
Palmer Cues, Speed Break Contest and The Custom Cue Connection.
Sponsoring this years championships was: VALLEY
On top of everything that the sponsors do for the tournament, nothing is more rewarding for the players than the Daily Raffles that take place on 6 different occasions. Awesome Poolside
Cabana’s, mouth-watering Buffet Dinners (for 2) and Free 2-Night Stays at Ballys/Paris were all raffled off to our tournament participants.
Every year the VNEA acknowledges some special people behind the scenes who work incredibly hard throughout the tournament. The following people were awarded beautiful plaques for
their hard work:
• Statistician Of The Year - Naomi Thomsen • Set-Up Person Of The Year - Wally Howton • Referee Of The Year - Maureen Plaquet
Valley continued their support of the Annual VNEA Championships by giving away a phenomenal Valley Home Pool Table at the banquet. Billy Stephan, from Tri Valley Vending in
Wasilla, Alaska, was the lucky winner of the beautiful table.
Also, throughout the evening, the crowd was treated to the music of Frank Sinatra, Roy Orbison, Dolly Parton and, of course, the KING... Elvis Presley! Hats off to our great
impersonators who kept the show moving with their musical tributes.
Another successful event was in the books and all of us at the VNEA would like to thank every one of our players for their
continued support and we promise the future of your Association is going to be GREAT!
