Psalm 107 “Give thanks to the Lord, His love is everlasting.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-17 Christ’s love impels us. Mark 4:34-41 Jesus calms the stormy seas. In today’s Gospel, Jesus is shown to have the same authority over the powers of nature that we see attributed to God in the first reading. Indeed, the disciples are filled with wonder and awe. Listening to these words, what can we say about the authority that Jesus possesses over our world today and over our own lives? What might this say about our faith in Him? 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time June 27 & 28, 2015 Stewardship Report You can gift wrap your tithe in a personalized envelope! Pascual Peter’s Pence Collection Next week our diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection, which provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and disasters. Join our Holy Father as a witness of charity to those who are suffering The Year of Consecrated Life Pope Francis declared 2015 to be the Year of Consecrated Life. It is a time to remember and give thanks for the religious who brought and nurtured the catholic faith in Hawaii. And, to invite others to consider becoming a priest or religious. Next week, the Diocese’s Vocation Office will be visiting our parish with a Traveling Exhibit of the work of religious in Hawaii. Come, meet and greet them. Free materials will be distributed for everyone to grow in the gift of consecration. Ordinary Time is not “Ordinary” By: Kristina M. DeNeve Adult Faith formation Coordinator Diocese of Honolulu Much of our church calendar is call “Ordinary Time,” which stands for any time that is not another liturgical season, namely Advent, Christmas, Len and Easter. To speak of any Sunday, or of any day, as being “ordinary” is a misnomer. Or at least it should be. Why? Because today, this day, is the only day that exists. And every day is meant to be infused with God. Indeed, St. Paul says as much in today’s 2nd reading “Whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away; behold new things have come.” 2 Cor 5:17 To help me remember this, I like to think of Ordinary Time as actually being Pentecost Time. At Pentecost, the disciples received the Holy Spirit. Because of our Baptism we too have the Holy Spirit. We died to ourselves and live in the newness of Christ. Like the disciples in today’s Gospel, even if we think we know Jesus, even if we think we know our faith Jesus will still astonish us. That is because every day can be a day of Pentecost. Ordinary does not have to be “ordinary.” Pro-Life Reflections Your Light must shine so that it can be seen by others. ~Mt 5:16 Reflection. A preacher once wrote that there is no such thing as secret discipleship. Either the discipleship will destroy the secrecy, or the secrecy will destroy the Discipleship. That’s why being pro-life cannot just be a personal private conviction. If it’s in our heart, it needs to be on our lips and in our actions. Prayer. Lord God, may I never try to be a secret disciple, but rather be proud to be known as one of Yours. Intercessory Prayer For those who work to promote the Gospel of Life. that God might reward them for their goodness; We pray to the Lord.
