Welcome
The Bonsai Association Belgium is happy to welcome you
to the 16 th Noelanders Trophy
Alone the number 16 is nothing special on his own. 10 and 15 are years to celebrate. In
this case for us is the 16 th Noelanders Trophy is a special year to celebrate , its another
step forward , a move to another location , a better venue.The location we had previously
was getting to small, we needed to look for something better.Now we have found it.
The Limburg hallen in Genk is a fantastic place. There is more space for the exhibition to
show our trees to advantage , more space for the traders, much better accommodation for
the demonstrators , everything is much better and it is very close the beautiful city of Genk
with lots of restaurants, pubs etc.
Bonsai enthusiasts and professionals from all over the world will present to you their best
Bonsai. We are grateful to all these Bonsai friends who have worked very hard for years to
show us their amazing bonsai masterpieces in the best possible condition.
We would be pleased to welcome your tree at this wonderful show. After a pre selection
your tree can have a place in the collective memory of the World bonsai community.
This year we will have trophy for the overall winner, the winning shohin, the best deciduous
tree and the best bonsai from a member of Bonsai Association Belgium. Not forgetting the
Awards of merit to the nominated trees .
On saturday and sunday we have 3 bonsai masters giving simultaneous demonstrations.
They are an essential part of the show.

The traders area is a show on his own, 50 traders presenting all one needs for our hobby,
and what a selection they offered.
Also this year we will have high level suiseki at the exhibition.
Bonsai has created a truly peaceful and elegant art for us all to enjoy. All those of us
connected belief that the art of bonsai could act as a bridge for friendship and permanent
peace.
With our hobby, we are feeling with growing things, trees, plants, things we all can see and
love.Trees and plants are found everywhere and no specific language is needed. Just a
warm heart and loving care.
Lets start today, sharing this warm heart with all bonsai lovers.

Demonstrators
Ryan Neil
Ryan Neil grew up in Colorado and was inspired by the tortured and stunted trees in the Rocky
Mountains. Already in high school he was attracted to bonsai. After an education in horticulture
he was introduced to Ben Oki in California, who proved to be the catalyst for organizing Ryan’s
apprenticeship with world renowned master Mr. Masahiko Kimura.
Ryan is now a bonsai professional with international experience. He is always pursuing excellence in the art of bonsai. His bonsai nursery, International Bonsai Mirai, in Oregon, encompasses
Ryan’s full service nursery as well as his school which Ryan uses to teach intense and in depth
conceptual and technical information regarding the art of bonsai.
Throug the coordinated efforts of respected professionals, dedicated enthusiasts, and like-minded
groups and organizations Ryan hopes to achieve a bonsai community capable of self sufficiency.

Salvatore Liporace
Salvatore Liporace studied with Master Masahiko Kimura in Japan.
Salvatore Liporace established in 1986 the Studio Botanico in Milan, Italy. It was the first bonsai
school in Europe. Since that time he is one of the most asked bonsai artists in Europe. Several of
his students have become new bonsai talents.
During his long lasting carrier, he managed workshops, congresses and gaive demostrations in all
the five continents. We remember Salvatore from his work during the sixth and the tenth Noelanders Trophy.
He is co-founder and advisor of the IBS.
In 2001 he respresented Italy as headliner during the world bonsai congress in Munich, Germany.
In 2011 Salvatore was honored with the title of world ambassador for UBI.
His view to the art of bonsai is marked by continual experimentation, trying to create an integrated
environment where nature, music and visual art are connected.

Seok Ju Kim
Seok Ju Kimwas born in 1961 and opened his own bonsai nursery – Taechowon – in 1989.
He won several silver and gold prizes at the Korea Bonsai exhibition, and later was consultant for
several years at the Korea Bonsai Masterpiece Exhibition and the Gopung Exhibition.
He has demonstrated in several countries in the far east (including China and Taiwan) and also in
Switzerland and Lithuania.

Bonsai voor de Vlaamse liefhebber
Sinds meer dan 15 jaar promoot Bonsai Association Belgium VZW de bonsai cultuur in Vlaanderen. De voorzitter Marc
Noelanders zorgt ervoor dat we een kwalitatief hoogstaand programma kunnen aanbieden.
Alle activiteiten tijdens het jaar vinden plaats in het Cultuurcentrum Muze te Heusden-Zolder. Elke eerste woensdag van
de maand kan u vanaf 19.30 u een demostratie of een lezing bijwonen door zowel binnen- als buitenlandse bonsaimeesters.
Met succes bieden we een basiscursus aan van zes lessen verspreid over een heel jaar. U leert de eerste theorie en begint met zelf een bonsai te vormen. In een vervolgcursus gaan we per avond dieper in op een bepaald onderwerp. Uw
eigen bonsai worden samen besproken en keer op keer verder afgewerkt onder begeleiding. Doorheen de jaren zien
we de kwaliteit van de bonsai projecten van de deelnemers toenemen.
Bonsai Association Belgium is present op tuin- en hobbybeurzen om bonsai tot bij het grote publiek te brengen.
Met voldoening merken we dat de kwaliteit van heel wat privé bonsaiverzamelingen doorheen de jaren gestaag omhoog blijft gaan.
