$74,000 Grant Awarded to LNC
The North American Partnership for Environmental Community Action (NAPECA) has
approved a grant request for the Louisville
Nature Center to initiate the People for Pollinators program. LNC‘s project was chosen
from among 500 project proposals and was
only 1 of 21 grants awarded.
People for Pollinators is an urban initiative for the conservation
of pollinator insects and native sustainable environments. LNC
will partner with schools throughout Metro Louisville to add
companion pollinator plants to existing school
nutrition gardens. The pollinators will enhance
production of flowering fruits and vegetables as
well as reverse the decline of much needed pollinators within the Louisville Metro urban footprint. The effort will help lessen the decline of
the Eastern North American monarch butterfly
and honeybee populations. People for Pollinators will focus on
ways students, educators and concerned citizens can become involved and shifting the emphasis of creating change from the
farmer to the community.
All schools within the Louisville Metro area are
invited to participate by calling the Louisville Nature Center at 458-1328. Applications will be on a
first come basis.
LNC would like to thank Gary Michael who developed the idea
for People for Pollinators and who also co-authored the grant as
well as program project manager, Steve Brown.
Our mission at LNC is to provide nature education and encourage stewardship in an urban forest.
