required program for trainer members who meet and commit to the high SPCP training standards), as
well as Fall Conferences. The SPCP provides a highly regarded industry certification program (CPCP)
with testing available at SPCP events and similar gatherings.
Only members have the opportunity to attend SPCP conventions and conferences, use SPCP registered
images, and purchase valuable business resources such as client brochures, educational books and videos, and forms for use in their business. The SPCP logo is recognized throughout the world and symbolizes a permanent cosmetic professional meeting high ethical standards.

9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
This highly acclaimed two-day program is presented by SPCP Past President, Marjorie Grimm, CPCP
and past SPCP Director Dawn Marrero, CPCP. While a required class for those with a goal to become
SPCP trainer members, this program is also required regularly for certified trainer members as a review. Attendees have the opportunity to network with one another and to speak on particular subjects
to enrich the program with new ideas. This exchange of ideas promotes the process of new educational
concepts and program development. Attendees of this class must be CPCP certified or scheduled to
take their certification exam during the convention. Please refer to the SPCP website for other trainer
member requirements or contact the office for an application packet. Attending this class does not qualify
the attendee as an SPCP trainer member; additional requirements must be met. Please refer to the SPCP
website for other trainer member requirements or contact the office for a Trainer Application Packet.

Marjorie began her permanent cosmetics career in 1993 with studios in California and Washington. She served on the SPCP Board of Directors for two years and later returned to complete

trainer member and subject matter expert (SME), author of the SPCP textbook, Permanent
Cosmetics: The Foundations of Fundamental Applications, and is the lead instructor for the
SPCP Train the Trainer Class which she updates regularly. Marjorie is also a proud recipient of
the SPCP Industry Leader Award.
Dawn Marrero, CPCP

as a past Membership Chair on the Board of Directors, she has welcomed and supported new
members with the sincere message of, “I’m here to support you.” As a co-trainer in the Train
the Trainer program, she coordinates time and information to ensure attendees receive critical

Step up Your Income with Insurance Billing
Mary Jane Haake, CPCP
Many technicians reduce or waive their fees entirely for breast cancer clients. Did you know that most
breast cancer clients have insurance that covers their areola/nipple tattooing? Repigmenting scars and
grafts due to melanoma removal is also a covered procedure. Is your practice limited to permanent cosmetics? Eyeliner and eyebrows may also be covered with a diagnosis of Alopecia from a referring physician. Join Mary Jane for a step-by-step guide on how to expand your practice to include electronic billing.
This workshop is especially beneficial to US technicians.
Mary Jane Haake, CPCP
Mary Jane trained under the master, Bert Grimm, who bridged the breadth of the 20th Century
and taught her permanent cosmetics skills. A former Board Member of the SPCP, Mary Jane has
been tattooing since 1981 at Dermigraphics, LLC. In addition to offering custom tattoos, she
now devotes her services through the medical community to breast cancer survivors and others
in need. Her medical practice is billed 100% online through her clients’ medical insurance. Mary
Jane is also a recipient of the SPCP Industry Leader Award.

Microneedling and Scope of Practice
Microneedling has gained popularity around the world because it is affordable and effective. Treatment
protocols are more complex than first thought, and there is desperate need for standardization around
the world. Confusion now exists due to widely disseminated misinformation from some device manufacturers and “the blind leading the blind” via social media. Scope of practice has become one of the greatest
concerns. Remember...it is not the length of the needle that determines scope of practice, but rather the
“condition being treated”. In this lecture you will discover how to safely obtain effective results while remaining within your scope of practice.
Lance Setterfield, MD
Dr. Lance Setterfield, one of the world’s foremost dermal needling experts, is an educator, skin
treatment specialist, and international speaker. Author of “Concise Guide to Dermal Needling”,
he draws from 32 years of medical experience with special interest in cell-to-cell communication, particularly researching effects of dermal needling on the epidermis (cosmetic) and dermis
(medical). An early adopter of dermal needling in Canada (2005), his collaboration with clinics
and companies around the world has enabled him to be on the forefront of this technology.

Success with Male Eyebrows and Alopecia Clients
Taking on Two Challenging and Sensitive Procedures
Penny comes from a family of artists and appreciates a challenge that stimulates her abilities as a true artist.
She discovered that natural appearing eyebrows and eyeliner enhancements for men and alopecia
sufferers provides them with confidence, and are two of the most rewarding procedures to add to your
service menu. Get ready to be educated and motivated to step into challenging but very rewarding areas
of performing life changing ‘illusions’ of artistry! Let the magic of metamorphosis begin!
Penny Rudy, CPCP
Penny is well known throughout the Northwest for her compassion and artistry in permanent
cosmetics since she started in 1999. She remains involved with Washington State legislation,
education, and is a highly regarded international speaker. Penny is a past director, SPCP Lifetime
Member, CPCP certified and a Trainer Member. She changed her business name to Chrysalis
Clinic of Permanent Cosmetics after suffering a personal loss. While comparing this loss to the
metamorphosis of the caterpillar evolving into the beautiful butterfly, Penny also thought of
clients who had a metamorphosis through restorative procedures.

Microblading Flow
Tina Davies will demonstrate through SPCP-style video presentation - Microblading Flow: an unstructured and loose style of microstroking based on free-hand eyebrow design: allowing the artist’s concept
to flow from her mind to the canvas of the skin. She will also present an interactive demonstration on
how to practice microblading/microstroking, focusing on rhythm, pressure, and stroke technique. This
is an exercise that you don’t want to miss!
Tina Davies
Tina is an award-winning permanent cosmetic artist from San Francisco, California and now
resides in Canada. She started her career over fifteen years ago and has completed over 13,000
procedures. Tina is a pioneer in the microblading/microstroking field having first presented on
the subject in 2014, but continued to be frustrated with the lack of safe and high quality tools
to perform great work. Recognizing a need for professional grade tools for serious artists, she
designed and developed her own line of disposable microblading needles/hand tools.

Top Shelf Branding
In a world of million dollar ad budgets and billion dollar brands, can your small business compete? Lana
Duke says you can and shares her tips on developing your own unique, highly profitable brand. Speaking straight from her own personal experience – Lana turned a local steakhouse into the world’s largest
fine-dining brand and now runs five high-volume Ruth’s Chris restaurants and other successful businesses. She tells how to set yourself apart from your competition, using techniques like personal notes and
community involvement that cost little but pay off in big results.
Lana Duke
Lana’s story is a classic rags-to-riches tale. Raised in Canadian foster care, she moved to New
Orleans at 18, selling pots and pans door-to-door to get by. Hard work and determination landed
her in advertising and marketing. As head of a firm that grew to be the largest woman-owned ad
agency in the Gulf South, Lana helped build Ruth’s Chris Steak House into a sizzling national and
international success. Now Lana is the owner of five Ruth’s Chris restaurants, the Palace Truck
Stop & Casino, and a Huddle House. As part of her “give back” philosophy, Lana actively works
with foster children in San Antonio, New Orleans, and Toronto.
