Mansour’s Death Would be a
Serious Blow to Taliban: CEO
KABUL - Afghan CEO Abdullah
Abdullah said early Sunday that
if Mullah Akhtar Mansour’s death
is confirmed major changes within
the ranks of the Taliban can be expected.
Addressing a press conference,
Abdullah said if Mansour is dead
a number of Taliban leaders could
join the peace process.
He said that it was possible that
Mansour was killed in a targeted
drone attack on Saturday in Pakistan.
He went on to say that government
will announce Mansour’s death
once they have had confirmation in
this regard.

LASHKARGAH - A top police
commander in the south on Sunday said unprofessional individuals in police ranks and a shortage of heavy weapons posed
grave challenges to dealing with
the resurgent Taliban in southern
Helmand province.

Meanwhile the president’s office confirmed early Sunday
that a drone strike had been carried out. According to Dawa
Khan Menapal, the president’s deputy spokesman, they are
still waiting for confirmation of
Mansour’s death.
In a statement issued by the president’s office, he said that Mansour
had continuously rejected peace
and continued to bring carnage
and terror to the people of Afghanistan.
Abdullah meanwhile said Mansour had been a major obstacle in
the way of the Afghan peace process and that his death would be a
big blow to the insurgent group.

Electoral Reform: TEFA
KABUL - The Transparent
Election Foundation of Afghanistan (TEFA) on Sunday said personal interests
of politicians had besieged
the electoral reform process, accusing the government, particularly the parliament, of delaying tactics
in this regard.
A statement from the TEFA
to Pajhwok Afghan News
said more than 20 months
had passed since efforts to
bring about electoral reform were launched, but
the efforts were yet to yield
any tangible results.
“People’s eroding trust in elections and increasing political wrangling has negatively
impacted the implementation
of electoral reform,” the statement said.
“Parliament members have
failed to properly evaluate the performance of the
government, they have also
failed in their pledges with

23 Prisoners Freed

LASHKARGAH - Twenty-three civilians and
military officials were freed from a Taliban
prison during an overnight raid in the Marjah
district of southern Helmand province, an official said on Sunday.
The governor’s spokesman, Omar Zwak, told

Kills 13 Taliban
in Kunduz
KUNDUZ CITY - At least 13 Taliban have been killed in the US
drone strike in northern Kunduz
province, an official said on Sunday.
Lt. Gen. Sher Aziz Kamawal,
spokesman for the 808th Zpin
Ghar Zone in the northeast, told
Pajhwok Afghan News the drone
missile struck a vehicle in the
Asqalan locality of Kunduz City,
the provincial capital.
He said two notorious commanders were among the dead militants
who were traveling to Imam Sahib
District from Kunduz City.
