ST ANDREW’S ON THE TERRACE
Hato Anaru o Te Parehua
Founded 1840
ORDER OF SERVICE
Sunday 9th June 2013
Ratapu 9 Pipiri 2013
The Third Sunday after Pentecost
It is said that the ancestors of Māori, including the Polynesians
of ancient history, welcomed Matariki by flying kites (pākau).
Many Matariki celebrations now involve making and flying kites.
WELCOME TO ST ANDREW’S ON THE TERRACE
Wherever you are on your faith's journey,
wherever you have come from and wherever you are going to,
whatever you believe, whatever you do not believe, you are welcome here.
Please join in the congregational responses printed in bold italics.
Please stand if you are able, for the hymns and the offering prayer.
We will sing the hymns without announcement.
Please note your nearest fire exit.
The church and hall have been earthquake strengthened.
In an earthquake: drop, cover and hold.
During the building of the Welcome Centre, the only toilets available are upstairs
in the Conference Centre. Access is via the external stairway at the back of the
car park. We apologise for lack of disability access until mid-October 2013.

HĪMENE (hymn)
Telling our gospel stories
V1& chorus: William Parker/ Fanny J Crosby; v2 & chorus: Bronwyn White
Tell me the stories of Jesus I love to hear;
Things I would ask him to tell me if he were here;
Scenes by the wayside, tales of the sea,
Stories of Jesus, tell them to me.
Tell me the old, old story
Tell me the old, old story
Tell me the old, old story
Of Jesus and his love.
Sharing the stories of our lives: what helped us see
things that have formed our own gospel; what set us free
Changes in thinking, twists on the way
Stories that formed us: tell them today
We share our new, fresh stories
We share familiar stories
We share our good news stories
Of lives transformed by love.

KŌRERO MAHARATIA (Words of reflection)
Matariki: a time to tell our stories
HĪMENE (hymn)
Bronwyn White
He Waiata mō Aotearoa (Song for Aotearoa)
Lyrics: Bronwyn Angela White - Tune: Hanover—O Worship the King
Give thanks for Creation: orokohanga
that cosmic explosion—our whakapapa;
for logos and mythos, for spirit and word
give thanks for the ethos through which they are heard.
Remember ngā tūpuna—those gone before
their stars shining on us in Aotearoa
for we are the ashes of stars as they die
niho taniwha on the cloak of the sky.
Give thanks for the speakers: ngā kaikōrero
we hear and we listen—aroā whakarongo
With courage, with passion we greet the new day
ngā pā harakeke of cosmos and clay.
PANUI: TE WAIRUA KI TE WHANAU (Life in the Community)
People share notices and visitors are welcomed. If you have a notice,
please move to the front row, ready to speak briefly from the lectern.
KOHA (Offering)
Seven Eyes—Hannah Horsfield
KAWANGA (Dedication—Offering prayer)
We recognise and bless the gifts brought to the table and those given
to support the mission of the church through automatic payment.
Wairua Tapu, Creative Spirit,
as we bring our gifts, koha of hand and heart,
inspire us to bring to life our vision of mana whenua
where everyone is valued and understood
where the gifts of the spirit bud and flower
and bear the spirit’s fruit.
Amine.
INOI O NGĀ TANGATA (Prayers of the People)
Sue McRae
CIRCLE OF PRAYER
We think today of the people of Slovakia, and the Reformed
Christian Church in Slovakia.
In New Zealand, we remember those in parliament, and today we
name Michael Woodhouse and Jian Yang, List MPs.
Here in Wellington, we pray for the leaders and people of St
Christopher’s Presbyterian Church, Seatoun/Strathmore.

Please sign the visitors’ book at the back of the church.
We hope you enjoyed worshipping with us.
At St Andrew’s we want you to feel at home—to join in with the activities

PRESBYTERY RESOURCING OCCASION
Saturday 15 June 2013, 4.30 pm – 7.00 pm
Knox Church, 574 High Street Lower Hutt
“New ways of being church for this new season”.
Facilitator: The Rev Martin Stewart, St Stephen’s Christchurch
Martin was Moderator of Christchurch Presbytery at the time of the
earthquakes and he and Anne share ministry at St Stephen’s, Bryndwr
and have been exploring a variety of ways of being “church” in their
suburb.
The decision has since been made to demolish St Stephen’s, Bryndwr.
They and the people of both St Stephen’s and St Giles’, Papanui and
the parents and students attending St Andrew’s College are now
exploring new ways of being church for this new time.
We in congregations in Wellington Presbytery face some similar but
also some different challenges - so this is one of a series of
opportunities we will be arranging for people from our congregations
to come and share, to explore, and possibly discern ways that we can
address some of our future challenges.
For further information please contact either

FEEL LIKE A FUNDRAISER?
We are looking for people who will plan and organise one fundraiser.
It can be anything – a film night, a morning tea, bake sale – we are only
limited by our imaginations!
If you have an idea or are willing to act on someone else’s, so we can
have a fundraising event each month talk to Sandra Kirby –
021397169 or [email protected]
WELCOME CENTRE FUNDRAISING
Winter is upon us, but help is at hand. If you would like some handknitted socks, hats or hottie covers, or just feel like a bit more colour
in your life, go to http://felt.co.nz/shop/sockadoodle and buy some
online, or place an order in your size and preferred colours. 50% of
the proceeds go to the Welcome Centre fundraising effort and the rest
will be spent on more wool to keep Sue knitting!
DCM NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT – IT’S
BOOKFAIR TIME AGAIN
Ian Raistrick, Bookfair Co-ordinator writes
“The DCM Bookfair is the largest of its kind
in Wellington. With some 90,000 books, as well as CDs, DVDs, vinyl,
books and puzzles, it’s a BIG event, and one which would not be the
success it is without our wonderful volunteers. Thank you for the part
you’ve played in the past, and the support you’ve given DCM.
DCM is a small organisation, but we’re working on some of the biggest
problems facing Wellington city. We support the most vulnerable people
in our city to break the depressing cycle of life on the street. And we
have a big vision – we firmly believe that by working together, we can
end homelessness in our city.
The 2013 DCM Bookfair will be held at the TSB Bank Arena on the
weekend of 17 and 18 August. We need volunteers to assist with settingup on Friday, 16 August, at the fair itself on 17 and 18 August and with
clearing up on the Sunday afternoon/early evening.
Please let me know if, how and when you can help us. If you know
someone else who would like to help, please send me their contact
details.”
