In nearly three decades of product evolution we’ve brought hundreds of feeder applications to life; high-speed, heavy-duty, rotary die-cutters, flexo-folder gluers, printer-slotters, minis to jumbos, and even feeders for crossover substrates. The patented extended stroke design and pioneering velocity profile allow the feeder to transfer the sheet well beyond the feed roll nip. This means accurate registration and reduced crush by the feed roll grip. The wheel pattern and vacuum system can handle warped sheets, thin flutes, and cross-corrugated sheets. Feeding from SUN Automation Group Benefits Superior accuracy Fewer jams and less downtime Increased sheet support and traction Even wheel tread wear Ability to run lower quality and/or warped board Features Maintenance-free transmission Vacuum control with a staggered wheel pattern Low friction metal grate runners 15-20 year life span Extend-O-Feed is available for almost all manufacturers and can be retrofitted to your existing machines. sunautomation.com | 410.472.2900 Extend-O-Feed: How It Works Extended stroke feeding means corrugator scores can be fed beyond the feed roll nip before the feeder stops feeding. This means less feed roll crush and better accuracy. board travel Sheet is already the same velocity as the feed rolls vacuum A Large sheets can reach the print nip before the feeder stops feeding vacuum B Feeding from SUN Automation Group The grate on Extend-O-Feed moves up and down. For superior performance, this movement is adjustable based on the sheet length and stroke setting, as set by the operator. When the grate lowers at the same point in each cycle, the wheels are stopped briefly. For small sheets, the grate may only be down long enough to get the lead edge into the feed rolls. For long sheets, the grate can stay down until the lead edge is well beyond the first print nip. board travel feed rolls feed gates 100% % of machine line speed 0% grate up minimum feed stroke grate down grate up maximum feed stroke grate down sunautomation.com | 410.472.2900 Exact-O-Feed® Lead Edge Feeder With precise cam action and a large vacuum area, Exact-O-Feed is designed for the precise feed distance required by platen style converting machines. This delivers sheets at the exact distance and time required for the gripper bar. Engineered with high accuracy and a rugged transmission, the machine runs continuously at high speeds with little maintenance. The vacuum system flattens reasonable warp effectively, reducing jams and downtime. vacuum Feeding from SUN Automation Group Benefits Superior accuracy Fewer jams and less downtime Increased sheet support and traction Even wheel tread wear Ability to run lower quality and/or warped board Higher run speeds Features Maintenance-free transmission Vacuum control with a staggered wheel pattern Low friction roller grate Auto indexing wheel system (hunting ratio) Exact-O-Feed is available for almost all manufacturers and can be retrofitted to your existing machines as a replacement for suction cup pick-and-place. sunautomation.com | 410.472.2900 Feeder Options Available for All Feeders Motorized backstop in/out and up/down (below, left) Dust collector (right) Adjustable frequency drive Extend-O-Feed Options Exact-O-Feed Options Double-up feed option Feed hopper air injection Automated stroke adjustment Feeding from SUN Automation Group Transmissions SUN Automation’s smooth, rugged feeder transmissions perform with extreme accuracy at all speeds. We Answered. SUN Automation prides itself on customer-focused support. That’s why in 1999, we answered the call to solve some of the biggest challenges in converting. Converting from SUN Automation Group Converting Components Through the acquisition of Langston® Machinery in 2001 and our own engineering, SUN Automation’s converting expertise includes: Creasing Cutting Folding Gluing Scrap Management Scoring Slotting Stacking sunautomation.com | 410.472.2900 MicroGrind® Die Cut Accuracy System For years, machine designers attempted to trim the anvil with several different methods. While there were advantages, SUN Automation saw more room for improvement. Working closely with experienced converters, our engineers developed a method to utilize more machine formats and raise container quality. Our Promise The first die cut board is cut as precise as the last, even on high quantity output jobs at different points in the life of the anvil. Why MicroGrind? Feature Benefit Consistent cutting and creasing surface Precise control of the anvil speed Ensures sheets are cut to a consistent dimension Grinding while running No operator intervention or lost productivity Reduced need for blanket rotation Reduced die cut impression Improved quality of the cut Reduced wear on cutting dies Converting from SUN Automation Group MicroGrind bottom anvil installation sunautomation.com | 410.472.2900 Adapting for You For years, MicroGrind was only available for bottom anvil applications. If installed on a top anvil machine, dust generated from the grinding roll interfered with box quality. This was unacceptable. SUN Automation engineers, unwilling to compromise, got to work. At first a vacuum collection system removed dust directly from where it was generated. However, we faced a challenge. The vacuum system blocked access to the anvil drum and grinding roll. Not wanting to prevent regular maintenance and inspection, SUN Automation divided the vacuum system into two sections connected by a hinged joint. This allowed the vacuum system to swing open during maintenance. Now top anvil applications are able to enjoy MicroGrind benefits, including: Labor savings Productivity gain Quality impact Reduction in wear on cutting dies Converting from SUN Automation Group How MicroGrind Works A full-width tungsten carbide grinding roll engages against the entire surface of the anvil at the same rotation speed. Micro amounts (0.001” or 0.025 mm) are automatically removed every 10,000 impressions without operator intervention. Running at the same speed ensures accuracy. Combined with the die cutting on a uniform service, the quality of each box is greatly enhanced. Purchase Options Available for both top and bottom anvil applications Upgrade existing machines Option available by all major global manufacturers sunautomation.com | 410.472.2900 Dwell Units Ensure printing is completed by placing a dwell unit between the last print unit and the die cut unit. This provides additional drying time and space for drying units. The added space also ensures that a sheet is not engaged in printing and die cutting simultaneously. Benefits Features Improved print quality Vacuum deck adjusts with board caliper Improved production speed Self-contained vacuum system Converting from SUN Automation Group Langston® Machinery Workhorses of the Corrugated Industry In 2001, SUN Automation acquired all intellectual property for Langston®, Staley®, and Greenwood® machinery. Although these machines are not currently manufactured, many independent sections are available: Corrugator roll carts Print stations Die cut stations Pre-creasing sections sunautomation.com | 410.472.2900 Enhancing Machines with New Performance With access to all original drawings for Langston, we can manufacture new parts and enhance machines with modern technology. Add die cut unit or creaser die cut unit Add print station Add pre-creaser unit By rebuilding a XD or 380SF, a Titan RDC or Saturn FlexoFolder-Gluer is a productive asset for 15-20 more years Add a digital harmonic register to reduce the need for adjustments and lubrication Reduce backlash by replacing worn gear sets Converting from SUN Automation Group Saturn Counter Ejector Upgrades Suggested improvements include reducing vibrations at high speeds; a backstop design to protect leading edges of boxes; improved safety gates; and powered bundle exit conveyors to better protect operators during jam removal. Increase average running speeds Improve the life of all the moving mechanical parts Eliminate edge damage to boxes at high speeds Provide a safer working environment for operators High Speed Counter-Ejector for Langston With today’s demand for higher production speed, accurate squaring, and precise bundle count, our engineering team designed a new counter-ejector utilizing servo motion technology. Configured first for the Langston Saturn flexo-folder-gluers, this product will be unveiled in 2015. sunautomation.com | 410.472.2900 A Complete Solution for the Corrugated Industry FEEDING PRINTING CONVERTING SUPPORT What is SUN625®?
