day-date
36 mm in Everose gold
From its launch in 1956, the Day-Date was immediately
recognised as the watch worn by influential people.
The Day-Date was the first calendar wristwatch to display
the day, as well as the date, in its entirety. Faithful to its
noble origins, the Day-Date is made exclusively of gold or
platinum, the most precious metals.
Introduction
3
Style of the Day-Date
precious materials
The Day-Date has always embodied prestige and
exclusivity. A hallmark of its nobility, the Day-Date’s Oyster
case is produced exclusively in 950 platinum or in 18 ct
gold. The bezel can be fluted, smooth or, on the gem-set
versions, arrayed in the most beautiful of precious stones.
A choice of unique dials in refined colours and textures
enhances this timeless symbol of excellence.

Function of the Day-Date
monday, lundi
Initially presented in 1956, the Day-Date was a world first. The first watch to
indicate the day of the week spelt out in full. Worn by many world leaders, the
Day-Date is available with a bespoke day display in a wide choice of languages.

Spirit of the Day-Date
leadership
Rolex watches have long been associated with those who
have, over time, guided the destiny of the world. No matter
how different their vision, their field of excellence or their
achievements, many of these exceptional men and women
have one thing in common: the Day-Date.

oyster case
The Oyster case is guaranteed waterproof to a depth of
100 metres (330 feet). Its middle case is crafted exclusively
from a solid block of 950 platinum or 18 ct gold. The fluted
case back is hermetically screwed down with a special
tool exclusive to Rolex. Another core component in the
watertight structure is the winding crown fitted with the
patented Twinlock double waterproofness system, which
screws down securely against the case. The sapphire
crystal is clamped tight by the bezel. The Oyster case
provides the high-precision Rolex movement with optimal
protection from water, dust, pressure and shocks.

oyster bracelet
The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and
function, aesthetics and technology. First introduced in
the late 1930s, this particularly robust and comfortable
metal bracelet with its broad, flat three-piece links remains
the most universal bracelet in the Oyster collection.

president bracelet
This metal bracelet with semi-circular three-piece links
was created in 1956 for the launch of the Oyster Perpetual
Day-Date. Representing the ultimate in refinement and
comfort, and made of carefully selected precious metals,
the President bracelet was specifically designed for the
exclusive Day-Date. It is also available on some versions
of the Datejust in precious metals. The President bracelet
is fitted with a concealed Crownclasp.

the parachrom
hairspring
In a mechanical watch, the oscillator is the guardian
of time. Conventional oscillator hairsprings are made
of ferromagnetic alloys, leaving them vulnerable
to magnetic fields, temperature variations and
shocks that interfere with their precision. After years
of research, Rolex created the blue Parachrom
hairspring, which is finer than a human hair. Crafted
from a highly stable paramagnetic alloy that includes
niobium and zirconium, it is insensitive to magnetic
fields and up to 10 times more resistant to shocks.
Historically, the unique blue colour of the hairspring
has been a sign of prestige reserved for only the
most accurate timepieces.

Features
3155 movement
The Day-Date is equipped with calibre 3155, a selfwinding mechanical movement entirely developed and
manufactured by Rolex. It features a day and date calendar
disc mechanism. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements,
the 3155 is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation
reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully
passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute
(COSC) tests. Its architecture, in common with all Oyster
watch movements, makes it singularly reliable.

certified swiss
chronometer
The four simple words Superlative Chronometer
Officially Certified on a Rolex watch dial mean that
the very movement inside the timepiece has endured
15 days and nights of testing by COSC (Contrôle
Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres – Swiss Official
Chronometer Testing Institute), an independent notfor-profit association.
To receive COSC certification as a Swiss
chronometer, a watch must demonstrate extreme
precision in a variety of positions and temperatures.
Rolex is unique in the industry: this is the standard
level of quality required of every Rolex wristwatch
movement.
