About SESP
The State Energy Sector Partnership and Job
Training Grant (“SESP”) is a 3-year, $6 million
award that Hawaii’s Department of Labor and
Industrial Relations–Workforce Development
Council received from the U.S. Department of
Labor under funding provided by the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act (“ARRA”) to help
states build their renewable energy and energyefficiency industries.
The purpose of the SESP training grant is to
provide sector strategy training that supports
Hawaii’s Clean Energy Initiative. An integral
component of this sector strategy training is
teaching workers the skills required to provide
them with long-term jobs in renewable energy
and energy-efficiency industries.

Free Resources for Green Employers
Employers can improve their competitive
edge by building their current employees’
skill sets. The SESP program offers qualified
employers the ability to train their own
workers at no cost to the employer.
In addition, employers who are looking to
hire can access through SESP a qualified pool
of workers who have recently obtained or are
enrolled in a certificate program in their field.
To offset the cost of training, eligible
employers may also receive reimbursement
for 50%–90% of their new employees’ wages
during the on-the-job training period.
Ensure that both current workers and potential hires can meet the changing demands
of your business. Contact your county’s local
One-Stop Center (listed below) or visit
www.sesphawaii.com
to find more info about how to get started.
