Thisparkcoversonly150squaremilesbutdespiteitssmallsizeanditsfragileecosystemitsupportsa
wide range of mammals (well over 50 of the larger species) and birds (over 400 species). Arrive for
lunchatyourLodgefollowedbyanafternoongameviewingdrive.Amboseliisbestknownforviewsof
spectacularMountKilimanjaro,thehighestmountaininAfricaatsome19,341feet.Theparkaffordsyou
thebestopportunitytogetclosetothemightyelephant.YoumightalsospotCapebuffalo,zebra,wild
dog, and others. Later as the sunsets, you will be transferred back to your camp for dinner and

Day2:TsavoWestNationalPark
Begin your drive to Tsavo West National Park, at just over 8,000 square miles; Tsavo is the largest
nationalparkinKenyaandoneofthelargestintheworld.Becauseofitssizetheparkwassplitintotwo,
TsavoWestandTsavoEast,foreasyadministration.LocatedmidwaybetweenNairobiandthecoast,the
areaboastsvolcanichills,fourrivers,morethan60majormammalspeciesand1,000plantspecies.The
northernpartofTsavoWestisthemostdevelopedandhasspectacularscenerywitharollingvolcanic
landscapecarpetedinlonggrassanddensebush.
Althoughthetallvegetationmakesgamespottingtrickierthaninsomeoftheotherparks,TsavoWest's
bio-diversity is amazing. The landscape is a mixture of grassland and forest shrub vegetation. Thus
driving and exploring the vegetation almost assures you close encounters with the following animals:
lions, leopard, cheetah, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, kongoni, waterbuck, klipspringer, impala, gazelles,
buffalos,andelephants.ApartfromTsavo’selephantpopulationtherearemanylion–someundoubtedly
thedescendantsoftheinfamousandfeared“Man-eatersofTsavo”popularizedinthefilmGhostinthe
Darkness. In addition to lion the resident carnivores in Tsavo include serval, hyena, leopard, cheetah,
and caracal. The landscape is dominated, especially off the hills, by the giant baobab, a tree that is
reputedtolive1,000years.
TsavoWestisfamousfortheMzimaSprings.Thisstarattractionisapoolofnaturalspringwaterwith
underwaterviewinghidesforobservinghipposwhereagushingsupplyoffresh,crystalclearwaterhas
created an oasis for wildlife. A specially constructed underwater observatory provides visitors with a
uniqueviewintotheunderwaterworldofMzima.Thewatercatchmentisdividedintotwopools;here
youcanviewhipposandcrocodiles.Theupperpoolisoccupiedbyhipposandlowerpoolbycrocodiles.

DrivesouthtotheexpansiveTsavoEastNationalPark.YouwillarriveintimeforlunchattheLodge
followedbyafternoongameviewingdrive.ThejointmassofTsavoWestandEastNationalParksforms
oneofthelargestNationalParksintheworldandcoversamassive40%ofKenya’stotallandarea.
TsavoEast,thelargerofthetwooffersavastanduntappedarenaofaridbushlandwhichiswashedby
theazureandemeraldmeanderingsoftheGalanariver,guardedbythelimitlesslavareachesofthe
YattaplateauandpatrolledbysomeofthelargestelephantsherdsinKenya
