Mission
Royal Rangers is a mentoring ministry
for future men.
You will provide Christlike character formation and servant leadership
development for boys and young men in a highly relational and fun environment.
The Mission is to…
evangelize
boys and young men drawing them with fun activities
that promote relationship and belonging

Evangelize
Rangers is fun with a purpose!
Fun activities (guided
by our interactive skill
resources) give men
and boys side-byside opportunities to
establish friendship,
the bedrock of
the mentoring
relationship.
Whereas women build relationships
face-to-face, men build them sideby-side. As men and boys learn
new skills and do things together,
relationships form and become the
foundation men use to speak into
the lives of boys. While many of
their peers stall out on the journey
to adulthood, these boys and
young men move into manhood
with confidence and in relationship
with their Heavenly Father and the
Church. 4
Royal Rangers 2.0 | Mentoring Future Men
Men and boys connect around:
• Outdoors
• Trades
• Sports
• Technology
• Arts
• Ministry
Regular interaction with godly men
builds confidence and answers a
boy’s deepest question: “Do I have
what it takes to be a man?” The
young man arrives at the answer
over a period of time as he regularly
tests and compares his developing
strength against that of other men.”
As iron sharpens iron, so
one man sharpens another”
(Prov. 27:17).
In a fun, mentoring environment
boys grow healthy—physically,
socially, mentally, and spiritually
(Luke 2:52).
In this setting, boys and young
men invite their unsaved friends
and involve themselves in the Great
Commission. Church takes on life to
the boy.
Equip
Discipleship in manhood (guided by our Bible
resources) provide men tools to model Christlike
manhood as they guide boys on a Bible-based,
Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered journey to
maturity in the faith.
Boys study and apply what the Bible says about:
• Doctrine
• Sexuality/Integrity
• Biblical Worldview
• Cultural Issues
• Christlike Manhood
Men teach and model the enduring principles of what it takes to be a
godly man in America today.

Servant leadership development (guided by our

Social skills
Equipping skills
Attitude skills
Leadership skills
Service skills
Men are taught to create a growth environment
so that Royal Rangers is a boy-led, adultfacilitated ministry in which next generation men
learn to become:
• Less self-sufficient, more Christ-dependent
• Less self-centered, more others-centered

Why Mentor Future Men?
The Need
The best time to build a man is while he’s still a boy.
But…
The path from boyhood to manhood is no longer clear.
Many boys and young men are losing their way.
!
Dr. James Dobson in
Bringing Up Boys warns,
“Now, more than ever,
boys are experiencing a
crisis of confidence that
reaches deep within their soul.”
Why Mentor Future Men?
7
Compared to girls, boys are:
3x more likely to be registered drug addicts
4x more likely to be diagnosed as emotionally disturbed
5x more likely to commit suicide
6x more likely to have learning disabilities
12x more likely to commit murder
Boys
make
up:
90%
of those in drug
treatment programs
95%
of minors in the
juvenile court system

The Solution
Start
A boy needs
a guiding
relationship…
…With his father.
A boy is changed by the
experiences he shares with his
father or significant male family
members in his life.
In Rangers, fathers and sons
share life-shaping experiences
together, involving fathers in their
sons’ lives.
these boys look up to and
emulate.
“He will turn the hearts
of the fathers to their
children, and the hearts
of the children to their
fathers; or else I will come
and strike the land with a
curse” (Malachi 4:6).
Royal Rangers brings families
into right relationships with God
and with one another.
And for those who have no father
image in the home, Rangers
leaders often become the men
“Men and boys are changed by what they
experience together, not necessarily by what
they are told.”
– David Murrow,
Why Men Hate Church
Why Mentor Future Men?
9
…With the community of men.
Masculinity is caught and taught. Boys need regular interaction with churchmen
who can model and teach godly manhood. When a boy has an engaged father,
these men echo his voice and message. However, when the young man has no
such father, they echo the message of the One who promised to be Father to the
fatherless. How else would these boys hear their Heavenly Father except for this
chorus of men?
“Boys become men in the community of men.”
- Robert Lewis,
Raising a Modern-day Knight
“Masculinity is bestowed. A boy learns who he is and that he has
what it takes from a man and from the company of men in his life.
He cannot learn it any other way.”
- John Eldridge,
Wild at Heart
“I never really realized I didn’t have a father around because I had
my Royal Rangers leaders. I needed a godly man’s influence, and
my Royal Rangers leaders filled that role. I always felt bad for the
other kids because they had only one dad, and I had six!”
- Doug Clay,
General Treasurer of the Assemblies of God
(whose father passed away while he was a boy)
…With their Heavenly Father.
True manhood is found in relationship with the person of Jesus Christ and lived in
the power of the Holy Spirit.
“Manhood and Christlikeness are synonymous.”
- Edwin Louis Cole,
Maximized Manhood

Royal Rangers 2.0 | Mentoring Future Men
Your church is critical in bringing the solution.
The body of Christ plays a key role in mentoring
future men.
Paul instructed Titus to forge strong men who were “temperate, worthy of
respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love, and in endurance” who
would “encourage the young men.” Men are to be an example to the next
generation by “doing what is good” and by “showing integrity, seriousness and
soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose
you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us” (Titus
2:1,6-8).
“The church is the training ground for authentic manhood.”
-Doug Marsh,
National Royal Rangers Director
Royal Rangers is a platform that empowers your church to mobilize, inspire,
and resource men to mentor today’s boys, tomorrow’s men.
“For seventeen years, I had the privilege of leading Royal
Rangers in the three churches where I was pastor. Families
were added to our church as their boys became a part of this
ministry and their parents followed.”
- David Boyd,
National Boys & Girls Missionary Challenge Director
“My name is Bruce Witt, and I’m the outpost coordinator
in my church. My son, Robert, and I have been in Rangers
together for 10 years. My son has Down Syndrome, but that
is not what defines him. He has earned his Gold Medal of
Achievement, Royal Rangers highest award, and he has
graduated from the district Junior Leadership Training
Academy (JLTA). In fact, this past week he taught a class at
JLTA Winter Camp (the second year in a row). He is currently
serving with me in Discovery Rangers as a junior leader. I
cannot begin to express to you what an important role Royal
Rangers has been in Robert’s development and personal self
worth. What an awesome ministry!”
- Bruce Witt,
Wisconsin/Northern Michigan
Why Mentor Future Men?

Today’s boy, tomorrow’s man
A Source of Hope: Rangers in the Real World
I
n 1962, Royal Rangers embarked on
the journey of evangelizing, equipping,
and empowering the next generation
of Christlike men and lifelong servant
leaders. Since then, countless boys
have come through the program,
emerging as confident Christian men.
Today, God is using them daily to make
their mark. Hal Donaldson, the founder
and president of Convoy of Hope, is a
prime example.
Convoy of Hope provides help and
hope to people around the world
through feeding initiatives, community
outreaches, and disaster response.
Convoy of Hope has served 43
million people in 109 countries. The
inspiration of this great ministry grew
out of a difficult time in Hal’s life when
he and his family experienced severe
loss and persistent hardships. It was
during this time that the influence of
a Royal Rangers leader in his church
played a crucial role in helping Hal
to hold onto his faith and trust God.
Hal’s father was the pastor of a small
church and was a firm believer in the
value of Royal Rangers and its positive
impact on boys. At age twelve, Hal’s
father was killed in an auto accident,
leaving his mother with the challenge
of raising her four children.
Finding work was difficult, and
financial hardships developed
immediately.
Hal remembers: “When you’re
twelve years old and you lose
a parent, you really begin to
ask God the hard questions.
‘Why did this happen? Why
me?’ For a long time, my
mother was grieving, and we
didn’t want to burden her with
our questions. So, we often
turned to our Royal Rangers
leaders for help and answers,
and they were there for us.”
“I credit Royal Rangers for
a lot of what I am doing
today. Rangers provided an
extended family and a feeling
that I wasn’t alone when at
times I felt that I was. Rangers
provided stability and security.
It was so incredibly valuable
to us to know that there were
people who really cared about
us and believed we had a
future.”
The support Hal’s leaders
provided made a profound
mark on his life. This is the
purpose of Royal Rangers,
mentoring boys into Christlike
men.
“Hope is not expensive,
but neither is it free. It costs
us something. It cost my
Rangers leader’s time, energy,
patience, and even money to
sow into my life, but it gave me
hope,” expressed Hal. “Today,
Convoy of Hope shares that
hope all around the world with
people who will in turn share
it with others. What you are
sowing into the lives of the
boys God has given you will
cost you something, but its
value is priceless and will last
for all eternity.”

What makes Royal Rangers so effective?
Royal Rangers compliments your discipleship process, based on the Acts 2 –
Healthy Church model. Every lesson, devotion, activity, and event in Royal Rangers
is planned to encourage boys and young men in their walk with God:
• Evangelize – Rangers connect with the lost (evangelism)
• Equip – Rangers grow spiritually (discipleship)
• Empower – Rangers go and serve others (servant leadership development)
Boys and young men learn that every aspect of their lives is worship to God.

Think Different: What If?
What if we decide to think differently about
mentoring future men? These leaders dared
to ask, “What if?” Watch their stories at
MentoringFutureMen.com and then ask yourself,
“What if?” Get creative. How could you use
Royal Rangers to reach your community?
Huntsville, AL
What if the fatherless gained a father? The Rock Family
Worship Center in Huntsville, AL has been answering that
question. For several years, they have been using Royal
Rangers as an outreach to the disenfranchised communities
in their area. Every Tuesday night they bus in over
80 boys from low-income government housing
neighborhoods, feed them, and teach them how
to be godly men. On Wednesday nights, they offer
Royal Rangers to their regular attendees.
Camden, NJ
What if education moved beyond books and into life?
In Camden, NJ, the murder capital of the United States,
a group of Royal Rangers are partnering with a charter
school to change the lives of its students. Utilizing
Royal Rangers as an afterschool activity, dozens
of boys are being ministered to and seeing their
lives holistically affected. Their behavior and their
grades get better as Christ begins to reign in their
lives.
Springfield, MO
What if our traditional church reached out in
untraditional ways? Central Assembly of God in
Springfield, MO has been doing just that. Using
Royal Rangers, the church has reached out to the
public schools in the neighborhood around
their church. Utilizing Ranger Derby and
bicycle give-a-ways, they now regularly
minister to hundreds of children who
don’t even attend their church.
Stuttgart, Germany
What if an entire city could be reached?
Launching in April of 1988 with five leaders
and fifteen students, the Royal Rangers of
the Full Gospel Forum in Stuttgart, Germany
is today one outpost that meets in fourteen
locations and ministers to 1300 students
with 270 leaders. Using homegrown
leadership, both adult leaders and
Rangers have a vision to see the
families of their city reached for the
gospel of Christ.

Why use Rangers attire?
1. Rangers attire creates a sense of identity and belonging for boys;
2. Instills a sense of responsibility and self-discipline;
3. Establishes a degree of social equality; and
4. If you choose to use them, the utility uniform and awards vest provide a
way for boys to display their achievements. (Some churches use the utility
uniform and awards vest for the elementary groups and switch to a casual
t-shirt or sports jersey for the middle school and high school guys.)
The attire also draws attention and promotes the ministry in the church
and community.

Decide the BUDGET by determining the
level of Rangers resources you use.
Royal Rangers is affordable so that every family and church
can participate.
See the section on products in the “Keep the Momentum”
section that features the start-up resources you will need.
In most churches, the Rangers ministry is funded by a blend of
church and family funding, asking more of parents who are able
and less of those who can’t. That way everyone can participate.
How will your church fund Royal Rangers?

Royal Rangers 2.0 | Mentoring Future Men
Decide the best STAFFING SOLUTIONS
based on available mentors.
There are many combinations to consider:
• All male Rangers leadership is common. Male mentors are essential in
order to shape future men, but…
• Women and/or couples are great with Ranger Kids.
• Teen leaders can assist in Ranger Kids, Discovery Rangers, and
Adventure Rangers.
• Youth and children’s pastors are critical to Rangers leadership.

Advertise and Sign Up Boys and Young Men
Convey your enthusiasm for the new ministry to the congregation.
Announcements, videos, handouts, and posters will help create awareness and
excitement.
Advertising should convey your vision and be backed by a solid plan to
deliver on what you’ve promised.
So, when promoting your new ministry, deliver the same message to the parents
and boys but tailor the wording and emphasis for each audience.
You will be conveying your vision to boys and young men, parents, and
prospective mentors.
• Boys and young men: The boys are eager to make new friends and have
fun while being challenged physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually (Luke
2:52).
• Parents: Every parent wants a strong, confident, and mentored Christian son.
Encourage parents to involve their sons consistently in meetings and outings.
Also, urge fathers to take this opportunity to invest themselves in their sons
and in the community of men at the church. Their consistent support will have
a dramatic effect on their family over time.
• Prospective mentors: Mentors will respond to your vision; so recruit to
vision, not task. There are resources available at MentoringFutureMen.com
to help you mobilize mentors.
Encourage boys, young men, parents, and prospective mentors to sign up at a
designated location/table.
A promo kit featuring videos, posters, brochures, sign-up table and displays,

Recruit to vision.
Look for leaders with a burning desire to mentor future men.
(Tip: Offer an after church lunch info meeting for the pastor
to relay info on vision and open leadership positions to the
prospective mentors.)
Next, get the leaders involved in the Rangers Ministry Academy.
Rangers training involves four steps: Ready, Safety, Trained,
and Advanced. The national Royal Rangers office strongly
encourages leaders to complete Ready and Safety before
starting. These two steps will teach the best techniques for
running meetings, developing devotions, and keeping everyone
safe during the activities and events. No previous ministry
experience is required.
