Northwest Marine Trade Association
Northwest Marine Trade Association - Election 2006
Seven candidates running for three open positions on NMTA’s Board of Trustees
Ballots will be
mailed May 10 and
are due in the NMTA
office by June 2.
I
am the Washington district manager for Boater’s
World marine centers and I have
been serving on the NMTA Board
of Trustees for the past three years.
For the past year, I have been serving
as the Treasurer of the association.
Before accepting that position, I sent
the membership a letter asking for
your approval. I did that because I
felt that officers of the association
should first be elected to the board by
the membership and in my case, I had
been appointed.
I got very positive feedback from
many of you and so I accepted the
position. Over the past year, I served

y name is Larry Carpenter from Mt. Vernon, WA
and I am seeking your support
to serve on the Board of Directors at the Northwest Marine Trade
Association. As you may know, I
have been an active member of the
Association for 23 years, including
serving as president of the Board
from 1998-2001.
It is my assessment that the Association has been a valuable business tool
to elevate the presence of our industry in the Pacific Northwest. In fact,
our Association has been recognized
as a national leader in it’s category of
marine organizations.
P
But my love and respect for boating
and the environment goes back to a
very early age. I have been a member
of the Queen City Yacht Club for
Boating and fishing are so important
to me that my wife and I spend
almost every single weekend on our
boat. Last year, I think we were on
the water 48 weekends cruising out
of Dagmar’s Marina on Out-NAbout our 36 Motor Yacht.
The first involvement I had with the NMTA was serving on the Boater Education Committee and the Fish
Committee. I enjoy working on programs and projects
that will leave a healthy marine environment with better
fishing and crabbing opportunities for our children and
grandchildren. I look forward to serving the association and each of the 850 members if you vote for me.
Thank you in advance for your support and taking
the time to read this brief recap of my service on the
Board of Trustees.
As a small boat dealer in Skagit County, it has been my
passion to connect the recreational
boating industry with the recreational
fishing industry for the last 25 years.
We have made considerable progress
in this endeavor, including establishing a position within the NMTA,
who works fulltime to achieve the
goals set forth in the fishing section
of our Association’s business plan.
While I recognize our accomplishments, we have considerable challenges ahead to restore and expand
sport salmon, marine fish and shell
fish opportunities. I remain committed and dedicated to those challenges.
By supporting me to serve on the Board, I will continue to move our recreational fishing and boating agenda
ahead. It is not only our generation who value boating as a way of life in the Northwest , but is equally
important to connect the generations who follow us.
Thanks in advance for your support.
over a decade and the Edmonds Yacht Club prior to
that.
Running a Crownline dealership has
given me the opportunity to combine the fun and excitement I felt as
a kid with a plywood hydro behind
my bicycle and later a competition
water skier, with a chance to make a
difference in an industry that is very
dear to my heart.

on the Bylaw Review Committee where I supported
changes that now require officers to
first be elected by the membership
before they can serve. The Board has
already asked me to continue serving as the association Treasurer for
another year but first I need to be
elected to the Board so I am asking
for your vote.

My dream is that every individual and family in our
beautiful Pacific Northwest can experience the awe and
splendor of Puget Sound, the San Juans and our inland
waterways, and the thrill of participation in opening
day or “tailgating” by boat to a Husky game.
I am eager to work with NMTA’s outstanding Seattle
staff and management on the issues and challenges
facing the boating industry in the Northwest.
