The One Exposed!
Jeff Loftin Photography
We've been having quite a bit of fun at The One Bride Guide! Between the
parties, wedding fairs and antics of our interns, the fun never stops! First I want
to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to our three new GRADUATES! Stephanie
Baldwin, Marinna Cardona and Kristine Gonzales received their well-earned
diplomas from the Collegiate High School at Del Mar College! These three
interns have truly been a pleasure and they certainly will be missed. Hopefully
they'll still be helping out at The One on our blog and in other areas.
This year was a leap year and we wanted to take full advantage of that extra day, so
we decided to throw a party! With the help of Aria and the over-the-top decorating of Butler Signature Events, we had a gorgeous venue and a great turnout
at The One Exposed, a party to kick off the launching of our newest website,
theoffwhitepages.com, as well as to honor our advertisers and readers.
Lots of vendors, Brides and supporters came out to celebrate, and vendors also
donated food, flowers, music and more to make the event even more special.
Eleven vendors donated to a HUGE raffle drawing and we were proud to present all the loot to a newly-engaged Amy Wright. Congrats Amy (shown below
with yours truly)! All those gift certificates, spa packages, trips to Texas State
Aquarium and more should help relieve the stress of planning your wedding!
Sáenz + Rosales
Mr. Anthony Sáenz of Corpus Christi, Texas and
Ms. Alma Sáenz of San Antonio, Texas are proud
to announce the engagement of their daughter,
Araceli Isabel Sáenz of Corpus Christi, Texas to
Raul Gabriel Rosales of Mission, Texas. Raul is the
son of Thomas and Linda Rosales of Mission, Texas.
The wedding will be held on October 27, 2012.
The One teamed up with Josh Salinas of Josh & Co. to create the first ever
Aveda Bridal Style Challenge with students from the local Aveda School. We had
three amazing teams present a full bridal look complete with gown, jewelry, hair
and makeup. The winning team was Erica Duff and Ashley Phophirom!
We have big big plans
brewing so keep supporting The One as
we grow and offer you
more exciting events!

A
irplanes and traveling are one of
my big loves. So naturally I wanted
to find a way to incorporate those elements into a cover for The One. Josh
Salinas of Josh & Co. has become my
go-to-guy lately and had some amazing
ideas to make this cover come to life.
•
June – September 2012
I love working with Josh. Our first
time working together was on The
One's first anniversary issue (another aviation theme) when he was just
breaking out on his own. It's awesome to see how he's evolved from a
hair and makeup guy to a true stylist - bringing his own
vision to the photo shoot. From the model selection to
gowns, menswear, jewelry, props and every little detail
in between, he knows how to complete the story.
{4}
We encountered some issues getting this cover off the
ground until Fonzie Muñoz stepped in and saved the
day. Thank God for Fonzie and his assistant Brandi
Grahl! Fonzie Muñoz has a reputation for being laid
back and easy to work with and he did not disappoint.
It was such a relief working with him and knowing
we could relax as he made our vision a reality. As the
sun was setting and time became tight, Fonzie raced
around, never breaking his cool, collected demeanor
that kept everyone at ease. Even after a major mishap with some of his equipment (and a big save by
Brandi), he never let on that there was anything we
needed to worry about. He was a true professional.
The idea behind this photo shoot was that the Bride and
Groom had just left their reception, the Bride having
changed into her reception dress. Off they go, along with
a little canine companion in their Louis Vuitton luggage,
onto a plane bound for some fantastic destination.
Atlantic Aviation was also a huge help, answering lots of
questions and coordinating us with the right folks.
We decided on two locations for the shoot - one inside
Corpus Christi International Airport and one using a
private plane. I LOVE traveling from Corpus Christi. I
have friends who make the drive to San Antonio to save
a few bucks, but to me it's totally worth the extra money
to fly local. So I wanted to shoot inside the terminal
to help give props to CC International Airport. Kim
Bridger is the marketing manager at the airport and
made it a breeze to work with her and the staff inside
the facility. Even after frustrating, last-minute schedule changes, she accommodated us and helped us get
the necessary permissions from the staff and Southwest
Airlines without any trouble. Southwest ticket agent
Merrilee Thomas was also a joy to work with, allowing us to disrupt the normal flow of traveler traffic
for our photo shoot. Atlantic Aviation's Tomas Torres
helped secure the private plane, a King Air 350, graciously loaned by John Hubbard. Rosella Cantu with
We really enjoyed using two sets of models on our
last shoot, so Josh suggested we do the same with this
one. At first we were going to only shoot one set of
models for the terminal location and another for the
private plane, but they were all so gorgeous that we
decided to use everyone for both locations and pack
the shoot into one full day. Prince Day and Eunice
Green were selected for the cover and we ended up using Sam Luna and Elasha Pilgrim for Kim's article on
honeymooning (see pg. 29). These four models were
definitely super fun and a pleasure to spend the day
working together. Prince and Eunice had created a
story for themselves and were chatting and cracking up
the crew about wherever they were going on their fake
plane trip. But the star of the show was really the dog.
Everyone fell fast in love with little Laduquesa Christina Louboutin, Josh's dog who sat patiently in the dog
carrier all day, posing for the cameras - what a pro!
Three other prized, go-to vendors for our cover shoots
have become Gold Master Jewelers, Men's Wearhouse
and Julian Gold. It amazes me every shoot to see the
level of items they entrust to us. Our models wore over
$10,000 worth of fine jewelry, hand-picked by Sal
DeLaFuente of Gold Master Jewelers and Josh. Bobby
Buentello of Men's Wearhouse gave his expertise to
help Josh pick out Prince's white suit by Sean John, bow
tie by Daniel Cremieur, shirt by Modena and shoes by
Belvedere. Julian Gold loaned us tons of top-shelf options as usual. Eunice is seen on the cover wearing a white lace dress by Alberto Makaii. In
addition to the eye-popping Giovani Seal ring from Gold Master, she's wearing jewelry from
Dillard's Crystal Collection and shoes by Jessica Simpson. The pristine Louis Vuitton luggage,
complete with dog carrier, was loaned to us by Laurie Mintz as well as Josh and Greg Ybarra.
Eunice's alternate dress for the airplane shoot (the vibrant one seen above) was by Missoni.

Other assistants on the shoot were Janessa Cano,
shooting all the behind-the-scenes photos, as well
as Derrick Perrin from Big Box Pro shooting the
behind-the-scenes video which is available on our
web site. Cosmetology educator and stylist, Marcos
Ybarbo was also on hand to help out in many ways.

For our shoot inside Corpus Christi International terminal, Sam Luna wore a Ralph Lauren
blue seersucker suit, Tommy Hilfiger tie, Calvin Klein shirt and blue shoes by Belvedere.Elasha Pilgrim wore a pink and white striped dress by Kate
Spade, blue Guess shoes and a white hat by San Diego Hat
Company. Eunice wore a dress by Phoebe Couture and
hat by Christina Moore. Prince sported a Calvin Klein
linen suit, Euro Wind Nott tie, shirt by Joseph N Tiese
and shoes by Stacy Adams. Sam's outfit with the private
plane consisted of a suit by Calvin Klein, bow tie by
Pronto Uomo, shirt by Joseph N Fiese, and shoes by Stacy Adams. He's also wearing cuff links by Pronto Uomo.
Elasha's white dress was by BCBG and her long dress was
by Mignon. Jewelry was by Gold Master and Cezanne.

The outside façade may be deceiving,
but Gold Falcon Jewelers in Portland is
a beautiful store that everyone should
visit. The second I walked in the door, I
was greeted by a beautiful dog named
Bella. As I began to walk around, I saw
so many lovely pieces ranging from vintage to modern.
In talking to Lee Steed, owner and operator since 2008, I learned that his experience and focus on family is what
has given the store its success. Before
settling in Portland, Lee traveled the
country selling jewelry as a wholesaler.
He sold gold and diamonds to stores all
over America.
theonebrideguide.com
The trust and honesty that is required of
wholesalers is what helped Lee become
so successful. He believes that honesty
is the best policy. He shared many stories with me about the random inventory checks that wholesalers go through.
In one story, Lee compared jewelers
to doctors. He said you must trust your
jeweler as you must trust your doctor. After 20 years of carrying a million dollars
worth of jewelry, he understands the value of trust his customers put in him and
Gold Falcon Jewelers. Very few wholesalers are trusted to carry that much,
so he would get frequent inventory
tests and always came up even.
•
June – September 2012
{6}
Since taking over in 2008, Lee has increased annual business by about
80-90%. This was done by building
up a loyal customer list and showcasing the pieces that he knows his
customers will love. Lee has about six
customers that are on call for
coins and special estate deals.
His regulars are people looking
for estate deals. He reported
that one customer comes in every 10 days to see what’s new.
His target customers are ladies
between 25 and 55 years old.
Lee strives to bring them in by
displaying the brands every
lady loves. Some of his best selling items are from the popular brand Elle. Most of these
pieces are diamond or nautical pieces. He’s also recently started
selling class rings, which lends itself to
repeat customers.
Lee proudly told me that he has a
lot of exclusive items that aren’t sold
anywhere else in Corpus Christi or the
surrounding area. He has special re-
lationships with dealers so he’s the only
jeweler that sells specific brands. The
quality brand Gabriel is exclusive to Gold
Falcon and so is his daughter's line of
Laura Michelle jewelry. Lee’s particularly
partial to his daughter’s line because it
represents his family and he’s proud for
others to love it and support it. Customers hear great reviews from friends and
come in requesting it.
The biggest thing I took away from Gold
Falcon Jewelers is that it’s a completely
honest store. It’s truly a family business
that loves its customers. The quality and
attention to detail sets it apart from other
jewelry stores. Come on over to this land
of jewels in Portland and visit Bella the
dog. Don’t be surprised when you walk
out with something sparkly.

at 707 Moore Avenue in Portland, TX.

How we met:
We met while attending college at Texas
A&M University - Corpus Christi.
The proposal:
I (the Groom) was working at Buckle in La
Palmera Mall at the time as an assistant
manager. I picked Roxana up from work
and told her that I left some keys that I
needed at Buckle. Earlier that day I had a
huge poster placed in the window of the
store that read “Roxi, I love you! Will you
marry me?” As we walked up to the store
I had some of the guys put it up, and in
front of the whole mall, I proposed.
Favorite detail:
Favorite moment:
Bride: The weather. Groom: Having
everybody at the wedding get along.
Funniest/most embarrassing moment:
If you could do one thing over:
Bride: Marry my amazing husband again.
Groom: Have a first dance with my Bride.
Advice for future Brides or Grooms:
Bride: Don’t let any drama interrupt your
special day. Groom: Don’t have such a
large wedding party.
What marriage means to you:
Groom: Making a commitment to spend
the rest of your life and experiences with
the one who was meant for you. It's put-
Bride: With the right support system and
the right people helping you plan, a wedding can be the most amazing experience of your life. It's easier when you have
quality people working with you and
makes planning less stressful. Groom: Finding the one you are meant to spend the
rest of your life with and living that dream
out in reality makes having a wedding one
of the most enjoyable experiences in life.

Bride: When the groomsmen were
dancing and sweating so much.
Groom: When the flower girl stopped in
the middle of coming down the walkway and was about to cry. When she
saw her mom towards the front, she
smiled and started running to her.
Other information for couples:
Bride: Showering Jared with attention
and quality time makes him feel special
and loved. Also, showing an interest in
his hobbies makes him feel loved and
happy. Groom: Flowers on the counter
as she walks in the door is always a good
way to say “I’ve been thinking of you today.” For Roxi, spending quality time with
her and doing special things without her
asking me to makes her feel loved.

Biggest challenge:
How to make your spouse happy:
Bride: Doing a lot of traveling in our
spare time. Groom: Being able to build
a home, life, and eventually a family.

How they met:
We met at a football game our junior
year while attending King High School.
At first we were just friends, then we fell
in love and started dating. We have
been inseparable since.
The proposal:
We were on our way to a Christmas
Party and Zack came by my condo
to pick me up. As I was putting on my
jewelry, Zachary got down on one knee
and asked me to marry him.
Favorite detail:
If you could do one thing over:
Bride: Dancing to the Cruise Control
band with my husband and having
our friends and family dancing with us.
Groom: The crowd’s cheering as we entered into the reception, for the first time
as husband and wife.
Bride: I would have liked to have seen the
jazz duet play. We were not able to see
them play because we were still taking
pictures. Also, I wish I was able to actually
have a piece of our wedding cake. That
night was a whirlwind and as soon as we
cut the cake and took the pictures, we
were whisked off to do something else. So
we were unable to really enjoy the cake.
I guess that is why couples save the top
tier of the cake for their first year anniversary. Groom: I loved every second of it
and would not change a thing.
Biggest challenge:
Bride: The biggest challenge for me
was trying to not only make myself and
Zack happy during the wedding planning process but to please both of our
families as well. We both knew that
this wedding also meant so much to
our families and was a special time for
them. Groom: Trying to remember all
the rehearsed dances with my wife
and mother.
Advice for future Brides or Grooms:
Bride: Always be grateful for your friends
and family and all the people that help
you during this process. I tried to always
keep that in mind. Planning can get
stressful but it’s the people that you surround yourself with that help make it a
wonderful experience. Groom: Relax,
relax, relax… and let the Bride decide
everything. Oh, and smile.
Bride: Love is in the details. I think that
making your spouse happy is always
being able to share common interests
and making the simple everyday tasks
special because you are able to share
them with the person that you love.
Bride: Being able to go through life with
your best friend. To have someone to
share all the joys in life with and weather
though the hard times with as well.
Groom: Spending the rest of my life with
my best friend.
Other information for couples:
Bride: If you have the time, you should
take dance lessons for your first dance.
We both had so much fun learning a
swing dance. It was a great way to
de-stress before the wedding and we
plan on continuing to take lessons now
that we are married. Groom: Remember what getting married is all about,
enjoy yourself and do not let anything or
anybody stop you from having the time
of your life.

The proposal:
James made arrangements to have a
private dinner at a restaurant named
Boudro's along the Riverwalk in San Antonio. He asked Ameli to be his wife, on
one knee, at the restaurant.
Favorite detail:
Bride: The band had James and I stand
in front of all our guests as they circled
around, and belted out Journey's "Don't
Stop Believing" right before our big send
off. It was really special and memorable,
and we have some awesome video clips!
Groom: Coming down the stairs at the
Art Center with a full mariachi band, and
being introduced as Mr. and Mrs. James
Leech. The mariachi's generated such an
excitement and positive energy. All the
music in general was really awesome.
We had my dad play the organ for the
ceremony, we had a bagpiper pipe us out
of the church, we had mariachis serenade
us into the reception and we had an 80's
cover band play during the reception. It
was a good mix of both our family cultures.
Favorite moment:
If you could do one thing over:
Bride: Everything! The entire day was
perfect and went off without a hitch!
Every detail was planned out and ran
smoothly. It truly was the best day of my
life, and I would do the entire event over
again in a heartbeat. Groom: I would
not change a thing.
Advice for future Brides and Grooms:
Bride: If you don't need to have a long
engagement, don't wait. Groom: If you
hate planning, make it a small wedding.
What marriage means to you:
Bride: Marriage symbolizes a bond that
goes far beyond a promise. It's knowing that we are truly committed to one
another and whatever happens to one,
happens to the other. There's no more
thinking of yourself only. It's about thinking how everything you do, say, feel,
etc. is for each other and the family you
grow together. Marriage is also about
a promise to God that both people will
stand together to honor their commitment to the church and their community. Groom: It is an ancient custom that
has made civilization possible.
How to make your spouse happy:
What you look forward to the most:
Bride: Building our life together and
starting a family. Groom: A steady pace
and a long life together.
Other information for couples:
Bride: Take time to really understand
what being married is about as a couple, and cherish every moment of your
wedding day. It all goes by so fast, but it
is so much fun. Being surrounded by that
much love from family and friends is truly
a magical experience. Groom: Make
sure you can deal well with each other
in high pressure situations.
{19}
Bride: Chocolate chip cookies! I know
I can always make him feel better with
some homemade cookies.
Groom: Cleaning the house and mowing
the lawn.
June – September 2012
Bride: Planning everything out. There are
so many details to think about, and so
much goes into making all your guests
feel welcome, comfortable and informed.
Sometimes it was a challenge to keep a
Bride: When we got into the limo at the
church to make our way to the reception, we had to stuff my wedding dress in.
So when we got to the Art Center, and
it was time to get out, the only way for
me to get out was butt first! I was totally
tangled in my dress and couldn't slide out
gracefully, so I had to crawl out of the
limo bottom first with everyone watching! Groom: We were initially unable to
locate the boat scheduled to pick us
up. We had picked a meeting spot, but
couldn't find it in the dark, so we were all
walking around the Yacht Club pier trying
to figure out where the boat was.
•
Biggest challenge:
Funniest/most embarrassing moment:
theonebrideguide.com
Bride: It was such an amazing and
overwhelming feeling to see the doors
to the church open, and hundreds of
faces turn to look back at us. Both my
father and I looked at each other, took
a deep breath, and started to tear up
as we walked together to the front of
the church. When we made it down the
aisle, just before my dad turned to be
seated, he asked if he could at least give
me one last kiss on the cheek. It was a
very endearing and personal moment
that I'll never forget. Groom: Hearing the
bagpipes as we left the alter. No one was
expecting us to have a bagpiper, and it
was a great way to leave the church with
everyone following behind us.

of Cancun, honeymooners can choose price and
itinerary, sometimes opting
for something less than the
all-inclusive works! “They’ll
choose to go without the
full blown all-inclusive so
they can venture out in
to town and enjoy different restaurants,” says
Lawley, who arranges
many of these kinds of trips
for vacationers. “Several
resorts have gone to the
European Plan where just
breakfast is included.”
That leaves couples with
options for the rest of the
day. Lawley says that
honeymooners often want
outdoor excursions and
that the resorts will often
arrange the transportation.
Whatever your preference, a travel
agent can help you mold a trip that is affordable and meets your expectations.
For questions regarding the Corpus Christi
International Airport, contact Kim Bridger
at [email protected]. Audie Lawley
can be contacted through her company
facebook page, www.cruisingco.com or
via email at [email protected].

Travel agents have heard it all and luckily they can deliver. Even though many
couples decide to do the shopping
on their own, a travel agent can hone
in on exactly what kind of experience
you’re after and can mold something
that fits your budget. Here in South Texas,
the Caribbean is still a favorite destination for honeymooners, according to
Audie Lawley, with Cruising Company,
Etc. Cancun and Cozumel are close to
home which saves time and money. In
places like Playa Del Carmen just south
June – September 2012
We can all dream of a wealthy donor
coming forward to pay for our week in
paradise. But that only happens on reality
shows. In real life, couples search for a
romantic vacation that doesn’t break
the bank and that delivers whatever it
is they’re looking for during their time
away. Whether it’s sun, the ocean, snow,
mountains or marveling at a volcano in
the South Pacific, couples typically want
to experience something special during
their post wedding escape.
•
Your airport experience
should be the start of something wonderful. When you arrive at Corpus Christi
International, rest assured that the honeymoon has begun! And it’s about time.
Weddings and receptions are often
wrought with anxiety. After all, we typically
shoot for near perfection, family unity and
a pleasant experience for more guests
than we can afford. It stands to reason
that when the event comes to an end,
the happy couple should be able to go
forward in life with great memories from
their wedding and a huge sense of relief.
Lawley, who runs her travel
agency from home, says
it’s becoming obvious
that the oil and gas boom
created by the Eagle Ford
Shale is resulting in cash
flowing again in our region.
That appears to be creating a demand for more
expensive destinations too.
Since February, Lawley
says she has booked 3
honeymoon trips to Hawaii
out of Corpus Christi. Lawley says she encourages
honeymooners to fly out of
Corpus Christi International
Airport instead of booking flights out of San Antonio or Houston.
“Honeymooners are tired from wedding
preps and family events,” she says. “The
last thing they need to do with their time
off is spend it in a car.” Starting at your
hometown airport means you end up
close to home. That will help when you’re
facing a back-to-work alarm clock the
next morning after your trip of bliss.
theonebrideguide.com
here’s
nothing like
it! That feeling
you get when your bags
are packed and you’re
headed to the airport to
embark on a fabulous trip
to the destination of your
choice. When this moment
comes after months of
wedding planning, it can
truly feel like the weight of
the world has been lifted.
It’s especially nice knowing you’re heading to the
Corpus Christi International
Airport. Your hometown
airport is hassle-free with
plenty of affordable parking, rarely a line at the
security checkpoint and
all the free Wi-Fi you can
handle while you wait for
your flight.

The proposal:
Favorite detail:
Biggest challenge:
Bride: Making the guest list. It was hard to
stay within our budget and invite everyone we wanted to invite; we had to
make compromises. Groom: Making sure
all of the suits looked similar enough. My
Funniest/most embarrassing moment:
Bride: When David tripped on my dress
during the Bride-Groom dance. Luckily he
didn't fall. Groom: I kissed Tinsley way too
long at the end of the ceremony, and
Tinsley had to back away from me. We
didn't have a chance to practice beforehand, so the kiss was way too personal.
Everyone laughed when Tinsley backed
away, so at least it's a funny memory.
If you could do one thing over:
Bride: I would have a videographer. It
would be fun to see the ceremony again.
Groom: I thought the wedding was almost perfect in every way. My only regret
is that I didn't eat more of the meatballs.
Advice for future Brides or Grooms:
Bride: Order your invitations early, at
least 4 months, depending on how elaborate they are. Our order was confused
so many times through the vendor we
used. We ordered them 9 months before
the wedding date, and it took 5 months
to receive them. Groom: Spend a lot of
time making sure you're inviting everyone you want to invite. Don't skimp there
How to make your spouse happy:
Bride: When I show an interest in what
David is working on or thinking about. He's
studying biomedical engineering, which
is completely beyond my understanding.
Since I don't have an active part in what
he's doing, asking him and letting him explain some math theorem makes him feel
loved. Also, he feels loved when I plan
things for us to do together. It shows him
that I have an active interest in our relationship, as well as an excitement about
life. Groom: Give her foot massages,
cook often, and let her spend almost as
much as she wants on clothing. Especially
when it comes to wedding shoes.
Other couples should know:
Bride: Being married feels different than
we ever expected. We both feel more of a
responsibility for each other. All those things
you always said you'd think about later
(like how many kids you want, buying a
house, car, saving for retirement, etc.) are
now here. It's later. So make sure you talk
about all the big issues before because
they hit fast after the honeymoon.
Groom: When planning the wedding, it's
best for the two families to communicate
clearly, early on, about their financial
expectations. It will make everything less
stressful later.
{31}
Bride: The beginning of the reception,
right after the ceremony. Everyone was
so excited to congratulate us and I was
so excited to see everyone.
Groom: Drinking beer with my groomsmen right before we left for the wedding.
We were on the porch of the bed and
breakfast we stayed at, the Henry Howard House. It helped me calm my nerves.
brothers and
I all got our
suits from Joseph A.
Banks. My three other
groomsmen already
had black suits, so I
had to make sure they were all the same
black, etc. One groomsmen ended up

Bride: So many aspects of the wedding
were personal. I wore my mom's dress
and veil. The sleeves from my mom's dress
were used to make the back of the ring
bearer's pillow. My mom cross-stitched
the front of the pillow. I wore my aunt's
wedding dress from 1969 as my going
away dress. I also wore my aunt's mother's
bracelet. And my mom cross-stitched the
wedding favors. Groom: Tinsley's mom's
favors. She intricately stitched each towel
for many hours. The towels made all the
guests feel so welcome and appreciated;
they were all everyone was talking about.
and worry about the money; it's worth it
to spend money to make sure everyone
you want to be there is invited.

David was in his first year of graduate
school at Boston University. Tinsley was
living in Dallas,TX, finishing her nursing degree at Baylor University. David planned a
trip to Dallas to see Tinsley and suggested
they go to Austin for the weekend. David
suggested they go to Spider House, the
coffee shop where they had met. They
spent the day going to favorite spots.
After dinner, they took a walk at a park
along Town Lake and David proposed at
the top of a hill overlooking the lake.

Teeth can be graded in three basic areas: size, shape
and color. Some people appear to have small teeth.
Sometimes the teeth themselves are small and
sometimes they have been ground down by stress
or acidic diets. Teeth can be round like pearls or
square like fence posts. It is ideal to have the shape
of the tooth be in harmony with the shape of a person’s face so that they accentuate each other. You
want a synergy in your smile that gives balance in
your appearance. Orthodontics can reshape your
smile or close spaces. Advances in dentistry now allow you to have braces with clear brackets or clear
retainers instead of traditional braces. Orthodontic
treatments take months or
years to obtain the perfect
smile, so start early!

Color seems to be the
most common concern
that people have with
their teeth. Color can
be broken down into the
brightness, actual color,
and amount of color
present in the tooth.
Brightness can be affected by stain from coffee, smoking, soft drinks
or red wine. Many times
bleaching can cure this
after a few in-office visits or a week of at-home
bleaching. Make sure
to have your teeth professionally cleaned and
polished before bleaching for the best results.
There are negative side
effects that can arise with
bleaching. Having it done
by an unlicensed technician or by yourself can cause you more pain than it
is worth. Please see a licensed dentist for this procedure to avoid hypersensitivity, nerve damage, or
burnt gums. A dentist also can advise you whether
bleaching is the right treatment for you. As mentioned, bleaching only changes the brightness of
your teeth. The actual color of your teeth comes
from inside the tooth and cannot be changed unless placing something over the tooth to give it a
new appearance (i.e. veneers or crowns). Bleaching is the fastest and easiest way to change your
smile. Start a month prior to your portraits to
make sure that you are satisfied with the outcome.
If you have small or missing teeth, you will need
more than bleaching to obtain your ideal smile.
Porcelain veneers, composite veneers, or porcelain crowns can change the size, shape and
color of your teeth. Veneers only cover the front
of your tooth, but can dramatically change your
smile. Porcelain is a more permanent material that must be made in a laboratory whereas
composite is less stain resistant but can be done
in one office visit. Crowns can be made from
different materials also. It would be beneficial to
ask your dentist whether they are using all porcelain or porcelain fused to metal. All porcelain is
considered to be more aesthetic because crowns
with metal substructures must be made with the
highest quality metal in an aesthetic design in order to not to appear grey. Many options exist to fill
a missing tooth space. A removable option, the
partial denture or “flipper,” can be made in a week.
This is a quick and affordable fix for your smile.
help you to maintain the bone levels around your
teeth. Just like a muscle that atrophies without
use, the bone in your mouth atrophies when a
tooth is not rooted there. This can compromise
the bone around adjacent teeth, possibly leading
to further tooth loss. Sometimes bone grafts are
needed to replace missing bone necessary for implant placement. This can add time to your treatment, but again can also give the best long term
solution. Only a 3D x-ray of your mouth can
truly tell the dentist if you have enough bone for
a dental implant. From a 3D x-ray, the implant
can be planned precisely on the computer prior
to surgery. Computer guided implant surgery can
allow you to have implants placed with minimal
pain, decreased healing time, and greater accuracy. Guided surgery limits the opportunity for
damage to nerves, blood vessels and adjacent teeth
when placing dental implants. Seeing a specialist
for implant planning and placement can make a
significant difference in the outcome of dental
implant treatment.
For any of these treatments, the results vary
based on the dentist’s
ability or specialty. General dentists can offer a
variety of treatments, but
some smiles need a specialist’s care. These specialists have spent an extra two to six years after
dental school perfecting
their knowledge in a certain area. Prosthodontists
are dentists who specialize
in replacing missing teeth
for both function and
appearance using dental
implants, dentures, veneers, crowns and teeth
whitening. An orthodontist is a dental specialist
who straightens teeth and
aligns the bite of your
teeth. You will be referred to an oral surgeon
for aesthetic facial reconstruction or removal of
teeth. An endodontist may be needed to perform
root canal treatments for infected or painful teeth
while a periodontist will handle mouths with advanced gum disease.

There is nothing that conveys health and happiness like a beautiful smile. At your wedding, your
smile should show how happy you are to be embarking on this new journey. Unfortunately, many
people are self-conscious about their smile. Can
you imagine trying to hide your smile during the
happiest moments of your life? If your smile does
not live up to what you feel inside, you can do
something about it!
For a more permanent result, fixed partial dentures or dental implants are great tooth replacements. Fixed partial dentures, FPDs or “bridges,”
can be made in a few weeks and offer a porcelain
tooth to replace spaces in your smile. Bridges
can be highly aesthetic and last a very long time if
brushed and flossed well. Dental implants are the
best option if you can afford them. Where bridges
tie teeth together to replace spaces, implants replace the root and crown of a missing tooth without changing the adjacent tooth. Implants also
As you prepare for your wedding day, make sure to

Key items for every room in your home!
Note from The One:
Registering for wedding gifts is a necessary evil in wedding planning, but it
doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Keep
a good attitude, be patient, and make
sure to pick items you can live with
for a long while. And guys, don’t ask
WHY you need four different types of
spoons. You never know when a spoon
shortage is going to happen! But seriously, registering is a good thing. Your
friends and family are provided with a
list of gift items you actually want, instead
of playing the guessing game about
what in the world you might need for
your new kitchen and getting you random things you don't need. Register
for more than you think you’ll need
and make sure you have lots of affordable items for all ranges of income levels. Keep this list handy while you are
shopping and don’t get overwhelmed.
Remember, you can always return
things if you change your mind!

If your tropical honeymoon were tomorrow, would
you feel comfortable walking down the beach or
lounging by the pool in your bathing suit? If you
are not quite ready to put on your bikini or even
your one piece without putting on a pair of shorts
keep reading. Below are several successful simple
strategies you that if you begin can have you looking swimsuit ready in only a few weeks.
Skip the Cardio
If you want to look great by the pool, start with
strength training. Do strength exercises like push
ups, lunges, squats, hip bridges, overhead presses,
and chin-ups. I can already hear it, “But I don’t
want to get bulky.” More than likely you don’t
currently and won’t ever have enough testosterone
in your body to produce large “bulky” muscles
without some serious life altering training.
Stick to the basics of body weight exercises to get
started. Creating more muscle on your body will
burn more calories while at rest and help you look
strong and sexy poolside.

Stop Going to the Gym
•
June – September 2012
Being a gym owner I know people can get into a rut
from time to time. That is why I always encourage
our members to get outside and move. One of the
main reasons I want our members to get outside is
because of a hormone called cortisol. If your cortisol levels brought on by stress get too high too often
you have an increased risk of high blood pressure,
abdominal fat storage, and a decrease in immune
system function. Just getting outside and enjoying
our beautiful Bayfront can reduce your cortisol
levels. If you are concerned about your belly fat, it
may be stress induced. Get outside and enjoy our
beautiful and unique landscape. The tan you get
will also look great on the beach!
{38}
Eat More
Yes, I said eat more and more often. Make sure
you are making the right choices when you eat
though. Consume clean protein such as non-fried
fish, poultry, pork, and grass fed beef. Increase
your love of colorful veggies. The darker the color
the better they are for you. Eat fewer starches like
rice, potatoes, tortillas, chips, corn and stop drinking soft drinks and juices. Get your calories from
whole foods. Your body will not only look better
but it will feel better.
Drink More
Not wine, beer, liquor or soft drinks. Drink more
water. Ideally you will want to consume ½ your
desired body weight in ounces of water per day.
Consume more water if you sweat during your
workout or at work. Wine, beer and liquor are
made up of sugars (carbohydrates) and do not
fill you up like food can. These are called empty
calories. These empty calories, when not used for
fuel, can be stored as fat. Soft drinks are only good
to clean your battery cables on your car and nothing else. They are addictive and drinking them will
never give you the beach body you are looking for.
Yes, even the diet ones.
Workout Less
Performing shorter and higher intense workouts
will result in quicker results than long, slow cardio.
You will burn calories during your workout and
research has shown people can burn calories up to
48 hours after a high intensity workout. A sample
body weight circuit might look like:
Chose 5-strength exercises like; squats,
modified push ups, backward lunges, lying
superman(woman), and side planks.
Perform the first exercise for a set period of
time, say 30-seconds, then rest for 30-seconds.
This should be enough time to get your heart
rate back down and ready for your next exercise. Repeat the same interval (30-seconds on
30-seconds off ) for 20-minutes. You will want
to get about 8 repetitions during the 30-second bout of movement. If you are getting
more than 8 repetitions, slow down on the way
down and “feel the burn.”
Implementing these simple, yet effective strategies will get you looking and feeling great on your
honeymoon no matter where you go. If you didn’t
have time to implement these ideas before your
big day, don’t worry. It is never too late to start
taking care of your body.
If you and your bridal party would like to drop
at least one dress size before your big day, contact
Adam Farrell at [email protected].

or any Bride-to-be, watching
WE TV’s “My Fair Wedding with
David Tutera” is the pinnacle of
daydreaming. Imagining a wedding reception with perfect ambient lighting, golden spotlights pointing to the
sky, crowds of people dancing and every
other detail being just about perfect, kicks
any woman into serious bridal fantasy mode.

But ask Marci Montes if it can be done,
and she’ll make it happen. C.E.O. of
Dr. Rockstar – a local full-scale production company – she’ll tell you she
can make your wedding just as beautiful as something you might see on Tutera’s “My Fair Wedding.” In fact, she’s
had lunch with the wedding celebrity,
Tutera, himself.
Dr. Rockstar provides the gamut of production services, from lighting design to professional DJ services to state-of-the-art sound
systems. They are the backbone of any
“In the 80’s, all the bands used to play together,” Montes said. “I remember
playing at the old Stardust Ballroom
and there would be 14 bands on the
bill. We would all work so hard to play
a great show, but we would work just as
hard to make the show look amazing.
“We would use whatever we could find
at home for props. We created our own
backdrops. We all worked to put on a
great show.“
“I love David!” she said with a grin.
“He’s so awesome! So nice! He is just
amazing.”

Montes said through the 90’s and with
the introduction of different musical
genres, the trend to move away from
full-scale shows killed major elements
of the entertainment industry – one that he
said is vital to every wedding.

around and playing for an hour and a half.
Shows today have lost the value of production. Dr. Rockstar does exactly the opposite.
We are setting the trend. We bring full-scale
production back to the event business – especially weddings.”
Montes said a typical wedding event begins with a phone call, and then an in-person interview with the couple. Dr. Rockstar
is always the first to arrive at the venue and
the last to leave. Lights, music, DJ’s – all of
the elements that make a wedding memorable are part of their roster of services –
even a photo booth.
Marci Montes said the company specializes
in making the wedding spectacular by providing the elements that often go overlooked
during the planning stages of a wedding.
“People always focus on the gown and
the cake and the dress,” she said. “There
is always so much emphasis on the details
leading up to the wedding. Then, two weeks
before, they remember entertainment. They
want a DJ, or a live band or both.
“It’s imperative that people remember after
the dinner, after the cake, after the tradi-
tional dances – your guests still want to be
entertained.”
To date, weddings are more than half of the
company’s business.
Entertaining is what Dr. Rockstar takes seriously. The DJs are professional DJ’s who
teach aspiring mixers at the Corpus Christibased Produce Turntable Academy. They
are required to show up at the venue two
hours before the start time, no entourage in
tow, and absolutely no alcohol may be consumed at the event. Montes said the rules are
strict, but that all the DJs follow them. He said
their wedding couples never have to worry
about DJs not showing up on time, nor at all.
Dr. Rockstar promises an event like no other. Staff wear hidden microphones (just like
Jennifer Lopez in “The Wedding Planner”),
and technical pieces of the ceremony and
reception are cued to perfection. A recent
wedding used a traditional reception setup until 11 p.m. Then, it turned into a rave
after hours, complete with strobes, house
music and glow-in-the-dark bracelets and
necklaces.
The lighting is also specialized. All of Dr.
Rockstar’s lighting equipment is LED, making it possible to produce any kind of light
show imaginable. All of the light shows are
programmed to special cadences and sequences in the music – no flashing on or off
to the beat.
And Dr. Rockstar works to complement other vendors involved in the wedding. They
even have their trusted favorites after being in the wedding business for more than
a decade if you need a recommendation
for hair, photography and videography.
The Montes couple said their company is
full-scale because they take care of production and all of its hundreds of pieces.
And while they promise to make any wedding special, Marci and Ben both agree on
one golden rule for any Bride: do not wait to
book your entertainment or DJ.
“Dr. Rockstar can do three events a day
with our staff, but we are already booking
for 2014,” Marci said. “We are often the part
of the wedding that people forget to plan.
For Dr. Rockstar and our staff, it’s a craft. It’s
a passion. Our whole team works hard at
what we do to be the best.”
