They started the weekend with a sweep of Maconaquah to earn the regular season record for wins. They finished it off with a 3-1 come-from-behind win over a pesky McCutcheon squad Monday in sectional action. On Saturday, Kokomo won the first game 13-3. The Lady Kats pounded out 15 hits in the six-inning victory. Ramsie Hurlock was 3-for-3 with a double, and Miranda Ogle had a double and a single. Katelyn Dowden, Rachel Lawson, and Cathy Skaggs all had a pair of hits. Rachel got the win, throwing all six innings, and struck out 14 while allowing one earned run. In the second game, Kokomo scored ten runs in the top of the first and cruised to a 14-7 win. Cori Johnston and Kourtney Tedlock shared the pitching duties, with each giving up two earned runs. Cori struck out one, while Kourtney fanned four. Skaggs went 4-for-5, Sarah Haughn was 3-for-4, Sara Hughes had two hits, and Paris McCullum and Ramsie both had a double. On Memorial Day, the Lady Kats got a come-from-behind win to stay alive in sectional play. McCutcheon took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and the score stayed that way until the top of the sixth. Savannah Emmons singled to start the inning, and Haughn came on to run for her. Ogle then singled Haughn to second, and after Cathy was hit by a pitch, Paige Ward singled home Sarah to tie the score. Jayda Andrews was thrown out at home plate to end the inning tied at 1-all. (continued on the next page) After a scoreless bottom of the sixth for McCutcheon, McCullum drew a leadoff walk in the seventh. She was still at first base after the first out of the inning, but then initiated a rally. Paris drew a throw from the McCutcheon catcher in a pickoff attempt at first base and then took off for second for a delayed steal, putting her in scoring position. Ramsie doubled home Paris to give Kokomo a 2-1 lead. Alexis Clark came in to run for Ramsie, and Ogle singled home Alexis to give us a much needed insurance run. McCutcheon had the top of the order up in the bottom of the seventh, but Rachel set them down 1-2-3 and the Lady Kats escaped with a 3-1 win. Ward had three hits in the sectional game and was the only Lady Kat with multiple hits. Rachel got the win, throwing all seven innings. She struck out four. We advance to play Lafayette Jeff today in the sectional semi-finals at 5:30. Jeff defeated Marion 7-0 to earn their spot against the Lady Kats. Harrison and Logansport play in the second semi-final. In addition to the team winning a school record of 21 games in the regular season, Paris set the single season stolen base record on Saturday. These were great team wins, and we hope to keep it rolling tonight at Harrison tonight against Lafayette Jeff. We'd love to have a great crowd. Coach Susong Kokomo continued their winning ways Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader with Muncie Central by the scores 13-0 and 12-7. Those victories run the Kats’ winning streak to five games. The Wildkats got a big game in the opener from S.A. Dunn, who was 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, and five RBIs. Jared Dill had three hits, including a double, and score three runs. Colan Ruch had a single and double and drove in two, and Jack Perkins blasted a homer and had two RBI. Perkins also had a big day on the mound. He went all five innings, throwing a three-hitter with seven strikeouts. In the nightcap, Perkins continued his hot hitting with a pair of doubles to go with another home run. He also totaled five runs batted in. Dunn chipped in another double and three runs scored, and Jesse Johnson had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs. Kyle Wade got the win on the mound. The freshman pitched five innings for the Kats and only allowed two earned runs while fanning five. Kokomo returns to action on Thursday when they open sectional play against Western at 5:30 at Highland Park. We would love to see you all at the ball park. Coach Swan Jack Perkins Homered in both games of the doubleheader and tossed a threehitter in the opener The Kokomo JV Blue team took two from Muncie Central Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 10-2 and taking the second game 14-0. In the first game Spencer Bowlin picked up the win. He gave up the two runs on 10 hits while striking out five. He walked one. Kokomo Blue picked up a run in the first on a Colt Munsey single and a RBI sacrifice fly by Logan Hawk. In the fourth inning Kokomo pushed the lead to six by getting another sac fly from Hawk and a grand slam from Dylan Miller. We added three more runs in the fifth inning to close the door. In game two, Josiah Bolton pitched a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and three bases on balls. The Blue team jumped on the scoreboard early with three runs in the first and never looked back. Leading the Wildkat hitters for the game was DaShaun Barbary with a triple, double, and a single. Quamielle Belt added two singles, Hawk had two singles and a double, and Miller and Austin Bova both had a single and a double. Kokomo JV Blue finished the year 15-5.
