Greetings from Ma Foi!!
Here goes another fruitful year of Ma Foi. I’m
glad to see the growth of Ma Foi towards its values through a wonderful mission
which is carrying out by all of us. Past one year has been a year of happenings
for Ma Foi. It has added so many golden feathers to its cap.
This Annual Report will be reflecting the last one year of the Ma Foi Foundation.
I would like to note a word of gratitude to each and every one who involved
into the Ma Foi family. We also seek the support from all the kind hearts in our
further journey to touch the lives of thousands. Let the beautiful mantra lead
us: Our Society. Our Responsibility.

The Ma Foi Foundation works towards the holistic development of communities.
It has touched the lives of thousands of adults and children, providing them
with a platform to learn, grow and lead better lives. The initiative aims to help
disadvantaged communities achieve economic independence by building an
integrated support system that provides education, training and entrepreneurial
mentoring by partnering with community based organizations and corporate
houses.
Empowering families through an integrated holistic development of their
education, health and livelihoods in collaboration with people and

Mr. K. Pandia Rajan
Trustee, the Ma Foi Foundation
Founded The Ma Foi Management Consultants Limited in 1992 with a
small capital of INR 60,000. His belief in bringing sustainable change in
the lives of children, women and youth from the disadvantaged
backgrounds led to the establishment of The Ma Foi Foundation. Pandia
Rajan has been instrumental in bringing focus and direction to the
initiatives of The Ma Foi Foundation and has inspired many Ma Foi
members to do their bit for the society.
He is also the Founder Trustee of Confederation of Indian Organizations
for Service and Advocacy (CIOSA) that works towards bringing NGOs,
corporates and individuals on a common platform for mutual learning.
Latha Rajan
Managing Trustee, The Ma Foi Foundation
Co-founder of The Ma Foi Management Consultants Limited, Hemalatha
Rajan has played a pivotal role in building The Ma Foi Foundation into a
sensitive and strategic CSR arm of the organization. Her passion towards
empowering women has actually helped in building a movement of change
in the lives of over 20,000 women, who are today enjoying economic and
emotional independence.
She is a Chartered Accountant with over 16 years of experience in
Finance, Audit and Executive Search.
Hastha Shivaramakrishnan
Trustee, the Ma Foi Foundation
Currently the Principal at Tate Leadership Consulting Pvt Ltd, she has
been with the organization for over 13 years, handling various critical
roles. She has been the Chief Executive of the Executive Search business
of Randstad. Hastha Krishnan strongly believes in the capacity of every
individual to be able to give a part of oneself to the society, to bring about
lasting change.
Her belief in the importance of education for children has motivated many
members in The Ma Foi to provide career guidance and mentoring to
underprivileged children periodically.
Hastha Krishnan holds a Master’s Degree in English and has graduated in
Sociology.
Aditya Narayan Misra:
Trustee, the Ma Foi Foundation
General Manager of the Staffing Solutions Group in Randstad he has
handled the operations of various large centers in The Ma Foi. His
commitment to give something to the society, has seen him getting
involved in the conceptualization of various activities of the Foundation.
In his current role as a Trustee, he helps in running fund-raising and
awareness campaigns for the Foundation.
Mishra holds
a Bachelor's
degree
in Engineering (Electronics
and
Telecommunication) and a Master’s in Business Administration from
Jadavpur University
Nedumaran:
Trustee, the Ma Foi Foundation
A Management executive having experience in managing HR operations,
quality & consulting. He is currently the Vice President HR at SPi Global.
He has over 20 years of experience handling various roles. He also
conducts career guidance programmes for the Tier 2 students for the last
10 years. He has also released 2 books on Personality Development & Self
Confidence.
Nedumaran holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and Master’s Degree
in Human Resources Management.

We, The Ma Foi Foundation team, present our annual report for the year 20142015 with the satisfaction of making a LIFE to our beneficiaries by giving. Our
joy of giving has been reflected in the lives of thousands over the past 20 years.
We hope this report would speak out the eventful time span of 2014-2015 of
the Ma Foi family.
DISHA
DISHA is an opportunity for children from disadvantaged background to
believe in their strengths and rise beyond all odds to become grounded,
educated and sensitive individuals of the society. Disha is not just about
education for children. It involves holistic development of a child, allowing
him or her to discover their hidden talents, encouraging them to believe in
themselves and never let go of their dreams. DISHA focusses on - Gems
of DISHA, DISHA Scholarship Programme, DISHA Youth Movement
including Soldiers of Society and DISHA Sports Academy.
CHENNAI DISHA PROGRAMMES 2014-15
The flagship project of The Ma Foi Foundation consists of 407 Disha scholars for
the year 2014-15. There are 181 scholars from schools and 226 students from
colleges. 240 Disha Alumni have contributed to the project in the past year.

Disha School of Leadership
Skill building programme is an important component of
Disha Scholarship. 100hr programme every year equips
scholars with right skills, right values and right careers.
288 students benefited out of various sessions by Bhumi
volunteers, Mr.Mohan, Ms
Priya
and
Ms
Vidhya
during the year 2014-15.
The sessions held on the
topics - Communication and Negotiation, Goal
setting & Time Management, Leadership-Skills and
Practices, Career Orientation and Creative and
Critical Thinking.
Disha Training and Development Programme
Disha
conducts
sessions
and
workshops for students in the area
of business and entrepreneurship.
This allows the students to get to
know about the basics in business
management and thereby develop
related skills. Sessions on Entrepreneurship – Introduction, Skills and Practices,
Ideas – Generation, Discussion, Execution and Marketing Management were held
to a total number of 341 scholars in the year 2014-15. Mr Charles John Bhaskar
and Mr Prasanna were the guides for each session.
Disha Soldiers Of Society
SOS is the unique volunteer group by Disha
scholars including the alumni. Their selfless service
to the
society in
terms of various activities
supported by the Ma Foi Foundation plays an
integral role in the foundation. In 2014-15, we had
a vibrant participation from Soldiers of Society.
375 volunteers took part in the regular weekend

year. Apart from
that
our
volunteers
actively
took
part
Seva
in
Mela, Battle of
the Buffet, Ayyam Ittu Unn, Yathum ore yavarum kelir, Street play, Teach
English to public, Reading campaign, Blood Donation Campaign, Chennai
Marathon and Oorur Alcot Kuppam December Fest 2014 over 1055 hours. Ms
Jeevitha, Ms Jeenath, Mr Esakkiappan, Mr Balu, Mr kudiyarasu, Ms Mohanapriya,
Ms Ramya, Mr Boobalan, Mr Yogesh, Mr Prashanth, Ms Archana and Mr Dhinesh
Babu took the lead for various activities.
Disha Career Guidance Programme
Career Guidance programmes by Disha
presents a suitable vision to each student
through
sessions
on
Knowing
about
careers. 830 scholars attended overall 10
sessions on Knowing about Career by Mr
Vidhyapathi at 6 different schools.
Disha Living Values Programme
In partnership with VSET we had started Living
Values programme in schools two years back. Our
volunteers will take value sessions for 6th, 7th
and 8th class students. The curriculum is well
developed by VST and it was found useful by the
225 beneficiary students. The trainers for last year
were

Disha Naalai Namathe
Naalai Namathe is a vital project under
DISHA to help the school children to
mold skills through constant training by
receiving great levels of motivation.
We find the talents in each student and
provide them with necessary guidance
to achieve their goals. We have 34
boys and 43 girls who make up a sum
of 77 Naalai Namathe beneficiaries. We
have
introduced
Training
and
Skill
Development programme as a part of
Naalai Namathe. The resource persons
for
2014-15
Shobana,
wereMs
Mr
Suguna,
Prasanna
and
Ms
Mr
Thanigaivelan. The sessions were on
Reading
skills,
Creative Thinking.
Disha Holistic Programme
Introduced as a new project, Holistic
Programme aims at the development
of life skills of students. Students of
Story
writing,
and
6th, 7th and 8th class attend sessions on life skills and soft skills while we
focusing on their personality development. We conducted 15 sessions at Disha
Holistic programme at CBHSS G.Koil with an overall student’s attendance of
614. At CHS Wall Tax Road, 467 students benefited out of Disha Holistic
Programme over 11 sessions. Mr Vidhyapathi, Mr Moses, Mr Rajesh and Mr
Sivalingam were the resource persons.
Disha Annual Camp April 2014
The goal of the Disha Agricultural Camp is
to empower the teens to develop interest
towards
farming,
understand
the
importance of good health and to make
them earn a reasonable income with the
limited source available. To make them
aware
that
agriculture
occupies
an
important place in the development of an
economy we
engage them into agricultural activities through
these camps.
We impart the message, ‘LIVE
HEALTHY’ through our annual summer camps.
There was excitement in the air as the students
and staff geared up for the 4 day Disha
Agricultural Camp organised at Sevalaya. The
camp commenced on the 30th April and closed on the 4th May 2014. The
supportive environment encouraged the intensive camp and campers. We put up
140 students into 8 groups. Undoubtedly, the most enjoying activities were field
work, Tamil traditional games, Audio – Video sessions and camp fire nights. The
camp
gave
an
insight about the
following
areas:
Heritage
of
Tamil-Global
seafaring,
organic farming,
Tamil traditional
martial art and
Tamil traditional medicine system. Mr. Orisa Balu, Mr. Manikanda Nagarajan, Mr.
Siva, Mrs. Ezhilsekar, Mr. Jagan and Mr. Senthil Kumar Babu were our resource
persons for the camp. Our scholars had a memorable summer camp!
Disha Sports Academy
Many of our players who joined sports academy as boys are now in
college, playing at the university level. It has been useful and fruitful journey for
us see them perform well at the national level.

DISHA SPORTS ACADEMY WINTER CAMP – 2014
DISHA Sports Academy Winter camp aims at improving fitness and
building team coordination among the students.
The camp was a good experience to
each participant, coach and staff. It
held from Dec 25th to 28th 2014.
21 Students participated in the
camp. They were divided into 3
groups namely Chelsea ,Chennaiyin
fc and Barcelona. The camp helped
them to change into a better
footballer
and
good
student.
Sessions were given by Mr.Syed
Amiunl Ahasun (Coach), Dr. Mathew
on Laws of Football and Selfdiscipline respectively. Apart from these lectures students had evening
and morning practice sessions. The camp left with lots of good memories
in all participants.
GEMS OF DISHA
The third batch of Gems of Disha (Centre for
academically weaker children) passed their
10th exams with flying colors in the
academic year 2014-2015.
112 students appeared for class X
examinations and 100 passed in all the
subjects. Thus, we secured 89% of total pass with 50% average marks.
3 of our Gems have scored exceptionally and bagged the first and second places.
Shalini who scored 91% set the record of being the first student from Gems of
Disha who scored above 90%. Santhosh and Sundar scored 90% and almost
touched the topper’s level. This achievement is definitely a reward for their sheer
hard work and commitment. We also appreciate the trainers for bringing such a
shining victory.

Gems of Disha Annual Camp 2015
Annual Educational Camp for Gems of Disha students held from 26th Dec
2014 to 30th Dec 2014 at Tonakella, Annanoor. The motivational camp was
named as ‘Ennuvadhu Uyarvu’. The camp was a huge success by the
participation of 75 students, 25 trainers, 15 volunteers and 3 field officers.
Students were spirited with team work as the camp was focused on group
activities. Sessions on Motivation, Yoga, Sports activities and Science
Experiments were led by Mr. Udaya Sandrone and Mr. Shivalingam. The
participants enjoyed camp fire nights with cultural activities. They were also
given by certificates on the final day.
Gems of Disha has started of Independence Day Special drawing Competition
from August 15th 2014.
DISHA VIRUDHUNAGAR CHAPTER PROGRAMMES
We have 387 school and 414 college students who constitute a sum of 801
scholars from Virudhunagar and Madurai districts. Apart from that there are 84
alumni. There was a total of 70 Disha Kalvi Mayam (Evening Tuition centres)
across different places namely Virudhunagar, Sivakasi, Sattur, Thirumangalam,
Thirupparankundram and Aruppukkottai.
Disha College Students – Training Class
356 scholars were benefited out of 6
sessions on Motivation, Entrepreneurship,
Training
for
competitive
exams,
Employability skill, Self-awareness and
Goal setting. The sessions were handled by
Mr Antony, Mr Ayyamperumal, Mr anish
Fathima, Mr Vishwa and Mr Sabari.
Disha Holistic Programme
9 sessions took place under Disha Holistic Programme in the year 2014-15 by
Mr Pandi, Mr Anbu. The beneficiaries were class VI,VII,VIII,IX and X students
with a sum of 564.
Disha Skill Development Programme
Students were given training on Speech & Writing, Dance, Drawing, Science and
Social Service. The resource persond for the past year were Mr Chandran, Mr
Murali, Mr thangapandi, Mr Ibrahim and Mr Kaniselvam.
AAJEEVIKA SKLLS
We provide training to the unemployed youths who have who completed any
degree or 12th and who live in the rural areas of Virudhunagar district for a
period of 3 ½ months. The aim is to make them able to get employed. The
classes started on 2nd March 2015 with 15 students in Web Designing Training
and 30 u7nder Sales Associate Training.
Each woman makes a small saving of INR 100-200/-. The total savings of all
these women put together exceed INR 0.15 million every month. In the last 1
year, the savings of the women groups was INR 15 million. The total credit
availed by the groups was INR 35 million. The members of the group also avail
educational loans for their children ranging from INR 8000/- to INR 12000/-
Fundraising Initiatives
Battle of the Buffet- Foundation participated in the Battle of Buffet annual
Fundraising event during Joy Of Giving week.
Joy of Giving- The Ma Foi Foundation had actively participated in the Joy of
Giving week in different parts of Chennai,Madurai, Virudhunagar & Sivakasi
districts.
Wish Tree: The wishes of Gems of Disha children were asked & hung in a wish
tree & was kept in ADP,Guindy office.
Ma Foi Foundation & Disha Youth Movement Day
2014-15
The Ma Foi Foundation Day and Disha Youth
Movement Day was celebrated on Sunday, 8th
March 2015 at
Sir Pitti Thyagarayar
Auditorium from 10:30am to 1 pm. The
occasion was graced by our special guests,
Mr.Olivannan Gopalakrishnan, CEO, Emerald
Publishers & Ms.Halitha Shameem, Film
Director. We distributed Scholarships, Awards
and we also had
a small Event as
a Carnival. The
Scholars
were
manning
the
stalls to display
their
talents.
Nearly
1000
people joined us in celebrating our Foundation Day along with our Scholars.
There were many on the spot talent Competitions too.
As each year goes by, our commitment to support higher education increases.
By 2015 nearly 3000 children would require our support ….
