ACTS in the Rock - “Missing Person: The Christmas Story”
Occupational Therapists Jennifer Moore and
Brittany Brown, who are also AEDD Auxiliary
members, established the ACTS program at AEDD three
years ago.
ACTS stands for Acting Creates Therapeutic
Success. Participation in the dramatic arts enhances
physical, cognitive, and psychosocial behaviors.
Participants are encouraged to contribute in all areas of
the creative process. ACTS is a community based program for individuals with
disabilities designed to provide opportunities
for participation in the performing arts.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR - ACTS in
the Rock will perform again at the 5th annual
Curtain Call for a Cause event on Thursday,
June 4th at the Argenta Community Theater
in North Little Rock.
AUXILIARY

The “inTuition” Jim Hinson Spirit of Giving Award
Luncheon was held in November to remember our friend and mentor,
Jim Hinson, former CFO and board member of AEDD who passed
away on Christmas day 2013. Jim devoted much of his life to advocating
for those with special needs and celebrated the holidays by growing out his
gray beard, donning his velvet Santa suit and entertaining children and
adults alike by listening to their Christmas wishes.
The Jim Hinson Spirit of Giving award was presented to three
individuals who have given their time, talent and treasure to help others in
the community. This award upholds Jim’s philosophy of giving back and making a
difference.
Funds raised from inTuition created a scholarship
fund for 3D students attending the Pulaski Technical
College Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management
Institute. Current 3D students helped prep and serve
food during the luncheon and were a great example of
how successful the program is in preparing individuals
with disabilities to work in the food industry in our
community.

Learning Center Toy Drive
The holidays were merry and bright at our
preschool this year because of the overwhelming
response to our annual toy drive. Not only did we
receive numerous toy donations, but also many
generous cash donations as well. Every child at the
preschool received a toy, which
brought many, many smiles!

JINGLE JUBILEE HOLIDAY PARADE 2014
There’s “Snow Place” like Sammie Gail Sanders Children’s Learning
Center was the theme for this year’s entry in the Little Rock Christmas
Parade. Big thanks to: the Central High Jr. Civitan Club and club
sponsor Lee Conrad for building an awesome float, Craig Cloud for
driving the truck, the kids
and parents from the preschool who participated and
our Auxiliary members who
helped put it all together!
Craig O’Neill was presented with the 2014 “Champion for a Cause” award at our 6th
annual Hawgs for a Cause fundraiser in October. The event is hosted by our Auxiliary and
raised over $35,000! A new addition to the event was BBQ provided by
Woo Pig Q-ee and cooked on the “Big Frank” Razorback grill formerly
owned by the late Jennings Osborne. As tradition stands everyone
“pigged out” on delicious BBQ and all the trimmings. Thirsts were
quenched with beverages donated by Glazer’s, which flowed throughout
the evening.
Of course, Craig O’Neill donned his Brother Hawg attire and had the
entire room calling the Hogs to kick off a fantastic evening of eating,
drinking, dancing, bidding on tons of great auction items and generally
having a great time! Live auction winners went home with a 1/2 carat diamond ring, cookout for 25
hosted by Dallas Cowboys grillmaster Randy Lann, two tickets to wherever Southwest Airlines flies,
an Arkansas staycation package and a golfer’s weekend trip to Old Waverly Golf
Club resort. Bill Gray was the lucky winner of the $1,000 raffle prize and Chuck
Marshall won the consolation prize of $200.
Hawgs for a Cause, AEDD’s signature event, has grown each year from the
support of our sponsors, donors and patrons. Proceeds from the event will help
fund the addition of playground equipment at our preschool for toddlers and those
in wheelchairs. SAVE THE DATE for the 7th annual Hawgs for a Cause
on Thursday, October 1, 2015!
