THE FACTORY - 2010
TIM LEATHERMAN
There is an actual Leatherman. Tim
Leatherman. And he’s been the driving
force behind Leatherman Tools for over
25 years.
A native Oregonian, Tim received his
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical
Engineering from Oregon State
University in 1970.
The first workshop....Tim’s garage!
After that, he held a variety of jobs,
including positions as an English
teacher and a helicopter mechanic. Time
spent travelling abroad ultimately led
to the Leatherman multi-purpose tool
concept.....
In 1975, Tim Leatherman was travelling across Europe when his car broke down,
repeatedly. Although a competent mechanic, Tim realised his trusty scout knife couldn’t
do the job. What he needed was something better, more versatile and completely reliable.
Tim returned to the United States to launch one of the most successful garage start ups
- Leatherman Tool Group was founded......today millions of do-it-yourselfers around the
world reach for their trusty Leatherman whenever a project or problem arises.

THE ATLANTIC ADVENTURER
Back in January 2010 we were proud to sponsor James Ketchel as
he set off to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic - alone and unaided.
With only the deep blue ocean for company, James crossed from
La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua in the Caribbean.
Incredible as it might seem there has been more people sent into
space and back than have across the Atlantic Ocean in a rowing
boat.
James successfully reached the finish line on the 26th April 2010
at 1.30pm after being at sea for 110 days.
We are delighted to be supporting James again as he sets out to
summit Everest in 2011.
“Even in the harshest of environments my Leatherman multi-tool was
perfect. After 110 days at sea nearly all of my equipment was rusty
and fit for the bin. The only thing that was still like new was my
Leatherman. I will be making an attempt to climb Everest in 2011
and the one bit of personal equipment I know I will carry for sure will

The Big 5 Kayak Challenge is about a small team taking
on 5 distinct and unique expeditions, paddling some of the
most challenging water on the planet.

2. Canoeing the Yukon
3. John O’Groats to the Orkney Islands
4. Scotland to Ireland
5. London to Marrakesh, cycling and kayaking
At the end of October a small team of kayakers completed their epic journey
from London to Marrakesh by kayak and cycle. The journey saw them start
on the River Thames at Tower Bridge, cross the English Channel, the busiest
shipping lane in the world, head through France including paddling some of the
Bay of Biscay, cycle into Spain through the Western end of Pyrenees and kayak
the Straits of Gibraltar and round part of Morocco’s North African Coast,
before the last stage cycling into Marrakesh. The London to Marrakesh leg
was the final expedition of the Big 5 Kayak Challenge and the 10th expedition
in total. The 10 expeditions have included some of the most challenging sea
kayaking on the planet, wild camping in remote wilderness and lots adventures
and amazing wildlife.

When the Leatherman Charge TTi was made, Leatherman knew the
Charge AL and ALX were just too hard to beat, so they didn’t even
try. Instead they simply combined them. But Leatherman had to give
the TTi its own claim to fame, so in addition to all the other Charge
features, they gave the TTi premium comfort-sculpted titanium handle
scales and the S30V® stainless steel clip-point knife. Who says a

MILITARY TOOLS
Leatherman Multi Tools have been carried and used
by the armed forces of both the USA and the UK for

MUT
The Leatherman MUT is the first multi-tool that functions as both a
tactical and practical tool for military, law enforcement, or civilian
shooters. The MUT features multiple areas on the tool, threaded for
cleaning rods and brushes - and all the screwdriver bits are sized for
standard military and civilian sighting adjustment work. Also built into the
design of the tool is the flexibility to replace the most commonly used parts
on the spot, using a simple Torx #8, keeping down-time to a minimum.
