WHAT IS THE HOPE, CASCADES & CANYONS REGION?
Hope, Cascades & Canyons is only a short, scenic 1.5
hour drive from Vancouver. The region extends north
to Boston Bar and the Nahatlatch (Highway #1); west
to Bridal Falls/Popkum (Highway #1) and Ruby Creek
(Highway #7); and east to Manning Park/Sunshine
Valley (Highway #3) and Coquihalla Summit Recreation
Area (Highway #5).
Why visit the Fraser Canyon?
The Fraser Canyon extends north from Hope up Highway
#1 and a trip to the Hope, Cascades & Canyons region
would not be complete without a day or 2 in the canyon
that the mighty Fraser River carved. The Canyon is full of
once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
Whether it is seeing Hell’s Gate from a raft or a tram;
walking the Cariboo Wagon Road; hiking a Stó:lÕ trade
route; or gold-panning where thousands have sought
their fortune before, you will not regret joining us this
summer. Adventure awaits those who venture out of the
city this summer.

Come discover the allure of the Fraser Canyon and
experience BC’s history in a truly unique way.
GOLD RUSH TRAIL ITINERARY:
Day 1:
Explore how each community tells the story of the Gold Rush and how all the
players are represented. Begin either at Emory Bar (Hope River General Store) or
Lytton and work your way north/south through the Canyon and its history. Find out
what brought miners to the region and how they lived at the Yale Historic Site. Ride
Hell’s Gate Airtram and see why a road was so important to transportation through
the Canyon. Walk across Alexandra Bridge and learn about the first wagon road
through the Canyon and how it changed the lives of those who lived and worked in
the area. Explore Tuckkwiowhum and learn about the lives of First Nations in the
upper Canyon.
Day 2:
Raft the Mighty Fraser River. The Fraser River forms the core of British Columbia
and Gold Rush history. Now that you have seen it from the road, experience it the
way early First Nations and European explorers experienced it. See traditional
fishing camps and feel the power of the rapids.
Day 3:
You’ve seen it from your car and you’ve seen it from the river, now it is time to see
the Canyon from the mountains. Enjoy an afternoon of views up Spirit Caves or
Mt. Linky. For those who are looking for a longer hike, or even an overnighter, hike
Tikwalus Heritage Trail, a former First Nations and HBC trail. Interpretive signage
along the way shares the history of the trail and its users.
Nickelmine
The Nickelmine riding area - one of the oldest off-road motorcycle
trail networks in BC – has over 100 km of motorcycle and ATV
trails. The trail network consists of decommissioned forestry and
mining roads, technical single-track, family-friendly trails, and a
mini-motocross track. The area also has a campground and day
use area.
The trail network (started in the 1960s) is currently maintained by
the Fraser Valley Dirt Riders Association. Members receive trail
maps and access to the gated campsite.
Directions:
Head north from Hope on Hwy 1 for about 12 km (towards Hell’s
Gate) and turn left onto the BC Nickelmine Road. The road turns
into gravel and goes up a steep hill. The main unloading area is
about 4 km in a large opening off the main road.

Fraser Canyon Highway Tunnels
For anyone who grew up in southern B.C., a trip to the interior was never complete
without seeing the 7 tunnels in the Fraser Canyon. Since their completion in 1964, roadtrippers have been holding their breath, raising their feet, and making wishes through Yale,
Saddle Rock, Sailor Bar, Alexandra, Hell’s Gate, Ferrabee, and China Bar tunnels.
Re-connect with your past and experience the tunnels again this summer.
Food
There is no need to pack a picnic for a day in the Hope,
Cascades & Canyons region, as the Fraser Canyon is
packed with fantastic eateries. Given their proximity
to the greatest salmon river on earth, places like the
Sidecar Cafe (Hope River General Store) and Simon’s
Cafe (Hell’s Gate) ensures salmon in all its forms are
featured prominently. May we suggest taste-testing all
the salmon chowders available from Hope to Lytton?
Someone has to discover who makes it best.
The newest – and arguably most unique – addition to
the food scene in the Fraser Canyon is the Ward Tea
House at the Yale Historic Site. The current house was
built in 1880 and has been beautifully restored. Ward
Tea House serves classic sweets and savories (pasties,
rolls, scones, and buns) along with a soup-of-the-day
and a large selection of teas and cold beverages.
Servers dressed in period costumes will complement
your stop at Yale and make it a tea you won’t forget!
After a day of exploring, treat yourself to a stop at
Fat Jack’s Diner in Boston Bar. The chef, a former
Vancouverite, has gained a loyal following for his unique
variations on classic diner favourites. Jam made from the
trees out back is definitely worth stopping for.

LIFESTYLE
AdvantageHOPE is Hope’s economic development and tourism agency.
We work hard to promote Hope to the outside world in order to entice
new businesses, new visitors, and new residents to our community and
region.
If you start looking around and wondering why you don’t live here, you’re not alone.
Hope is more than just a place to play and eat. Thanks to a recent multi-million
dollar infrastructure investment, we have some of the fastest fibre optic internet in
the province. So whether you need to check in with the office before you hit the
trail or want to relocate an at-home business to a more affordable community,
we are ready for you.
From providing businesses with a variety of platforms from which to
advertise to the world to supporting asset development, AdvantageHOPE is committed to being a leader in building a vibrant community with a diverse and sustainable economy and attracting potential residents, investors, and visitors to Hope through provision
and promotion of local opportunities and experiences
Hope is one of the most easily accessible towns in British Columbia. We sit
at the junction of four major highways and our access to the Fraser Valley is
unimpeded by snow throughout the winter.
If you have any questions about current or future initiatives or
ideas about how better to promote this wonderful community we call home, then we welcome you to stop by for a visit.
AdvantageHOPE is based out of the Hope Visitor Centre
and Museum Complex. You can find TourismHOPE on all
social media platforms and AdvantageHope on facebook.
Four-bedroom homes in Hope are comparably priced (though typically
less expensive) than one-bedroom apartments in Greater Vancouver.
Just think about that for a minute. Think about how much more space
you could have and how much further your money can go. Not to
mention how much less time you would spend in your car each day.
For more information on working and playing in Hope, make sure
you stop by the Hope Visitor Centre and Museum Complex at 919
Water Avenue (or give us a call at 604.869.2021). We can’t wait
to meet you!
