History of Urology at Rush University
The history of Urology at Rush University is tightly linked to the emergence of urological surgery in the city of Chicago. Although Herman L. Kretschmer is considered to
have been the first to formerly train Urologic surgeons at Rush in 1942, Urologic surgery has been performed in Chicago and Rush by general surgeons for some time.
Over the years the major unions with Rush Medical School have involved the Presbyterian Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital, Cook County Hospital, the University of Chicago,
and the University of Illinois. These affiliations have significantly shaped Rush Urology.
