August - Community Library
August 2008 Number 187 A Guide to Your Library’s Programs, Events, and Services From the Director... On June 24th the community voted 632 to 429 in favor of our proposed budget. On behalf of the entire staff and the Board of Trustees we thank you. During the days surrounding the vote community members posed a number of questions to us that may be on your mind as well, so I would like to share some information with you. In June of 2006 a vote was held at the library on a proposed building expansion. That bond was defeated. At this time the library does not have any intention of expanding our facility, but we do have concerns about our building that we have to address. In April of 2007 the community voted in favor of a partial roof replacement project. We have obtained all the necessary approvals from the New York State Department of Education to proceed with our project. We will be putting the project out to public bid during the summer, with the goal of beginning the work in the fall of 2008. Unfortunately before we could begin the roof work we were delayed with an Continued on Back Cover what’s inside Under the Sea . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2 Imagination Land. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2 Tarantula Tee’s . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 w w w. c o m m u n i t y l i b r a r y. o r g Bugs on Board! I am happy to note that the project was completed successfully. Once our roof is watertight there will be repair work to sections of our building that will have to be completed. The water entering our facility has caused some damage to our walls. Next we hope to re-carpet the library for health and safety issues, as well as work on better lighting throughout the building. Many of our lights can no longer be repaired as parts have become scarce. Based on a facility study we conducted last year we know that our boiler is original to our 1982 building. We will look to replace it with a more energy efficient model in the future. As you can see, although we may not be proposing a new building in the future, our current facility is in need of attention. We will keep you posted on our progress as we go forward. As always, if you have any concerns about the library facility or services, please contact me at the library.
