The band has been featured at many of the major music and jazz festivals throughout the New York metropolitan area and has accompanied Count Basie band leader, Frank Foster, jazz trumpeter, Clark Terry, and internationally famous bassist Percy Heath during his concert/show services. Something Special Big Band also has six recordings to date. Camera Club Friday, January 13 at 4:00 #2477 Learn to take better photos from our librarian/photographer Mr. Casper. Each month there will be a new project with new skills and camera techniques to go with it. At each session you will be given a camera then we develop the film. Take a stroll down memory lane with the Pat DeRosa Orchestra, a musical trio consisting of drums, keyboard, saxophone, clarinet, and flute. The theme of the program focuses on the Paramount Theatre, one of the first and great show palaces in the world. Delight in the sounds of such classics as, Can’t Help Falling in Love, It Had to Be You, Moonlight Serenade, and so many more. Lariat Necklace Page 7 The highly talented band consists of five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets, and a full rhythm section. All the members of the band are professional musicians and most of them have performed with great swing bands such as Buddy Rich, Lionel Hampton, and Count Basie. The band plays a variety of big band music from nostalgia to contemporary swing, but is best known for its exciting Basie style. Online Classes Available at the Community Library Learn On-Line The Community Library has entered into an agreement with Western Suffolk BOCES to offer on-line classes to district residents. This innovative approach to education offers users the opportunity to take advantage of independent study. Through this non-traditional mode of learning, patrons can use any computer connected to the Internet, select classes at convenient times and learn at their own pace. A registered nurse from the Dominican Sisters Family Health Service will be at the Community Library to provide free blood pressure screenings. Free Small Business Counseling Wednesday, January 4 and Monday, January 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Mr. David E. Boone, a representative for SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives), will be providing free business counseling. SCORE business counselors are well-versed in how to develop effective business plans and create strategies for business growth. This free service is provided by appointment only.
