Voters chose Mr.
Popper’s Penguins by Richard and
Florence Atwater as their favorite penguin book and the majority voted that
they would not want a penguin as a

Literacy Tutors
Honored
On April 20, at Brookhaven Town
Hall in Farmingville, two very special
individuals were honored for the
exemplary volunteer service they
provide to our community. Eileen
Sribnick and Carmen Navarro were
named Literacy Suffolk, Inc. English
for Speakers of Other Languages
Volunteers of the Year.
Most Friday mornings you can find
Carmen and Eileen instructing our
unique Family Literacy class to
moms who come to the library, children in tow, with only one goal in
mind, learning to speak English.
Eileen and Carmen devote many
volunteer hours planning lessons
and finding interesting topics to
help parents assimilate into our
sometimes, very confusing culture.
Along with this award, Eileen and
Carmen received accolades from
County Executive Steve Levy and
Suffolk County Legislator Kate
Browning. Congratulations Carmen
and Eileen from the Literacy Office
and the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley
