Children will be singing, dancing and improvising as their favorite books come alive through music! The show includes props, costumes, puppets and instruments. Holy Grail. The bus departs the library at 11:00 a.m., and the show begins at 2:00 p.m. The price per person is $122.00 which includes orchestra seating and round trip coach transportation. A tip for the bus driver will be collected on the bus. Following the performance, there will be ample time to grab a bite to eat. We depart the city at 7:30 p.m. sharp. Students in grades 9 through 12 are needed to help us win the Battle of the Books. Help the Community Library’s team as we battle libraries across the county to win the Advanced Battle of the Books. You only have to read three great books and come to fun meetings. Come to the first meeting on January 7 to see the titles, eat some food and get to know each other. Designed for little ones who are not quite ready to attend a storytime on their own, Mom, Dad or other grownup will come along to share this first experience. Online Classes Available Through the Community Library LearnOnline is an innovative approach to education that offers users the opportunity to take advantage of independent study. Through this non-traditional mode of learning, patrons can use any computer connected to the Internet, select classes at convenient times and learn at their own pace. There are over 200 different classes available covering a variety of educational areas. Health Insurance Counseling Monday, January 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Appointments are necessary for this service In Cold Blood – Book Discussion January 28 at 7:00 p.m. #4223 The Library will be hosting a discussion of Truman Capote’s 1965 best-seller, In Cold Blood. On November 15, 1959, in the small town of Holcomb, Kansas, four members of the Clutter family were savagely murdered by blasts from a shotgun held a few inches from their faces. There was no apparent motive for the crime, and there were almost no clues. As Truman Capote reconstructs the events, he generates both suspense and astonishing empathy. Illustrators Workshop Friday, January 11 at 4:00 p.m. #4244 Do you love to express your creativity through drawing, painting and a variety of other mediums? Illustrators workshop is the place to be if you want to learn new techniques, hone the skills you already have and just have fun with your art. Various art materials are supplied and you are encouraged to take advantage of the skills that will be taught in every workshop. Madden Tournament Friday, January 18 at 5:30 p.m. #4246 It’s time for our fourth annual Madden Tournament. Let’s make this year the biggest tournament yet, so come on in and see what it’s all about. You will be competing on Play Station 2, in double elimination until it comes down to two players battling for the title. Five-Hour Pre-Licensing Class Saturday January 19 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Registration is available now! Now you can take the five-hour pre-licensing class without leaving your community. East End Driving School will conduct the five-hour class, required by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, for students who want to schedule their road test. The cost is $40. Introducing… the William Floyd Stomp Squad Friday, January 25 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Catch the excitement as the William Floyd Stomp Squad “steps” on stage at the Community Library on January 25, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Their performance is a unique form of percussive dance in which the participant’s entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps. Though stepping may be performed by an individual, it is generally performed by groups of three or more. This unique group of 25 teens, led by coordinators Tameka Jackson and Tiffany Bravo, includes guys and girls from 10 to 18 years old. RuneScape Club Friday, January 25 at 6:00 p.m. #4249 Travel through the gaming world of RuneScape. Engage in combat with other players or with monsters, complete quests or increase your skills. Library Services for the Homebound The Community Library’s Homebound Books-By-Mail Program is a service offered to district residents who are unable to visit the library due to a temporary or permanent illness or disability, or for individuals who are frail and elderly and don’t have transportation. Materials made available to homebound patrons are large and regular print books, videos (movies or educational), books on cassette or CD, and magazines. USA Breakdancers are a fun, family-friendly performance group that has been featured on television and in numerous music videos for performers such as ‘N Sync and Jennifer Lopez. The show appeals to people of all ages and cultures and makes everyone feel good about themselves. This performance will be held in the Library’s auditorium. A Library card is not required. Help for the Visually Impaired The Community Library has acquired a Merlin LCD, which is a full-color, auto-focus video magnification system designed to enhance the lifestyle of the visually impaired. The Merlin enables individuals with low vision to read, Storytime Together write, view photos, and more in color, black and white, or enhanced highcontrast positive or negative viewing modes. With easy-to-use buttons that are distinguishable by touch, you can enlarge or reduce images in seconds.
