You are not alone in the struggle, even though you may feel alone and weary.” St. Madeline Sophie Barat Hints from the Rule and Plan of Studies A student who anticipates an absence from class is required to complete and Appeal for Credit form at least 24 hours before the scheduled absence. A teacher may not allow a student the opportunity to make up work and tests, if a student chooses to miss or leave school without an approved Appeal for Credit form. In the case of illness or emergency, when a student will be late for or absent from school, a parent/guardian must notify the Dean of Students by 8:00 a.m. Upcoming Events An all-school Mass is scheduled for Friday, February 13th at 8:00 a.m. in the gym. Formal uniform is required. Dismissal for Mardi Gras is Friday, February 13th at 3:15. Classes resume Monday, February 23rd. SSH will welcome upper school students from La Perverie, France during the week of February 23rd. The ASH 7th/8th grade dance is Friday, February 27th from 7:30 to 10:00 at the Grand Coteau Ballroom. This event for all ASH and Berchmans Academy 7th and 8th grade students. The 7th grade from Duchesne Academy in Houston, TX will visit with the ASH 7th grade on the morning of Wednesday, March 4th. The Diocesan Quiz Bowl Tournament will take place at the Academy on Thursday, March 5th. Performances of the ASH musical, Legally Blonde, Jr. will begin Thursday, March 12th. See article below for additional information. ASH and Berchmans Academy upper schools will celebrate Mass together in the chapel on Friday, March 13th. Teacher Appreciation Week is the week of March 16th. Bookstore Hours 7:45 A.M. – 9:00 A.M., Monday – Thursday 2:30 P.M. – 3:15 P.M., Wednesday 2:30 P.M – 3:45 P.M., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday LEGALLY BLONDE JR Academy of the Sacred Heart students will present Legally Blonde Jr. in three performances. The musical will be performed Thursday, March 12th at 12:00 P.M., Friday March 13th, at 7:00 P.M., and Saturday, March 14th at 3:00 P.M. All performances will be held at the Delta Grand Theater, located in downtown Opelousas. Tickets are $10. Main cast members can begin purchasing tickets Monday, February 9th, and Tuesday February 10th. The main cast consists of all speaking roles, including understudies and featured dancers. Prep Students can begin purchasing tickets Wednesday, February 11th and Thursday, February 12th. These classes will be given the opportunity to purchase tickets before other students because they are a part of the cast. Remaining students can begin purchasing tickets Friday, February 13th. Ticket purchases will be limited for all students from Monday, February 9th through Friday, February 13th in the following manner. Friday and Saturday performances – four tickets per student. All ASH students will attend the Thursday performance as a school field trip. All students may begin purchasing tickets with no limit beginning Monday, February 23rd. Tickets may be purchased from the following faculty members. Mrs. Hymel – students with the last name beginning with A-G Mrs. Jones- students with the last name beginning with H-P Mrs. Lemon- students with the last name beginning with Q-Z ACT Prep Classes Schools of the Sacred Heart will be the host site for a Princeton Review ACT prep class that begins on March 7. The cost of the class is $550, and it will include 18 hours of instruction along with 4 full proctored ACT practice tests. The results of these tests will be used to track students’ progress. Below is the class schedule. Students will finish the class a little less than a week before the April 28 ACT, which will be given to all juniors during school. Saturday, March 7 (9AM- noon): Test 1 Wednesday, March 11 (3:30-6:30): Class 1 Wednesday, March 18 (3:30- 6:30): Class 2 Saturday, March 21 (9AM- noon): Test 2 Wednesday, March 25(3:30- 6:30): Class 3 Wednesday, April 1(3:30- 6:30): Class 4 (Coteau-Perverie exchange students—we will try to work something out for this date) Saturday, April 11(9AM- noon): Test 3 Wednesday, April 15(3:30- 6:30): Class 5 Saturday, April 18 (9AM- noon): Test 4 Wednesday, April 22(3:30- 6:30): Class 6 Please contact Ms. Ziegler as soon as possible if you are interested in enrolling your daughter in this class. The enrollment contract (sent to junior students and parents via email) and deposit are due Monday, February 23. TOPS Consent Louisiana state law requires that parents must determine at the beginning of each year, starting when their child enters the eighth grade, whether they give or deny consent for Schools of the Sacred Heart to collect their child’s Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and disclose it to the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) for TOPS and other financial aid or to the state’s colleges and universities (Institutions) for admissions. We will no longer provide your child’s transcript data to LOSFA and the Institutions without your permission. Please read the attached Consent Form and fill out and sign the portion of the Form that applies to your decision to grant or deny consent. Congé 2015 Schools of the Sacred Heart Grand Coteau, Louisiana Sunday, April 26, 2015 10am – 4pm February 2015 It’s time for Schools of the Sacred Heart to once again prepare for Congé. This year’s event will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2015. Funds from the event will be used for providing updated technology, faculty and staff professional development, athletics, and deferred maintenance throughout the school.
