Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall
The Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall provides supervised homework time,
outdoor and indoor recreational activities and social time with other classmates.
The program is offered on every full day of school after dismissal until 6:00 p.m. but it
is not offered on early dismissal days.
■
It may be utilized on an “as needed” basis and is billed at a rate of $25.00 a day.
■
There is also an option to enroll for an entire semester at a rate of $12.00 a day
($1,090.00 per semester).
Enrichment Program — Grades 1-6
The Enrichment Program reinforces, expands and enriches the school curriculum.
Courses and activities have been designed to actively engage students in a variety of
activities to encourage social, emotional and academic growth. All students enrolled
in the Enrichment Program and After School Academic Program (ASAP), can stay in
the Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall Program until 6:00 p.m. at no extra charge
the day of the class.
Ceramics — Innovative Hand
Building Art Pieces
• Maite Oca (Primary)
Students will explore working with clay to
create playful sculptural projects and a
variety of functional pieces. Students are
encouraged to experiment creatively and
expand on what they have learned and will
finish off their art work using a range of
glazing and painting techniques. Pieces
will be fired upon completion, creating
memories that will last a lifetime.
Ceramics — Learn and Play with Clay

Students will explore the basics of hand
building with clay and will finish off their art
work using a variety of glazing and painting
techniques. Pieces will be fired upon completion,
creating pieces the girls can cherish for a lifetime.

Chess • My Chess Class NEW
Chess has been known to improve the test
scores of those who play regularly, teaching
student’s critical thinking, mental discipline and
problem solving skills, which can positively
impact learning in the classroom. It also helps
with emotional control, self-awareness and
self-esteem. New to chess? No problem!
Lessons will focus on basic strategy, common
tactics, prophylactic thinking, planning and
decision making. If you've ever been curious about chess now is the time to learn!
This class is taught by My Chess Class in
partnership with Laura Juliana Perez Jaramillo
who is the Colombian National Chess
Champion in 2010 and the 2012 Amateur
World Champion.

Fine Arts (Bellas Artes)
en Español • Beatriz Calderon
Practice your Spanish while acquiring and
developing great Visual Arts skills guided by an
excellent local artist. Discover the beauty of art
through the study of classical and contemporary
artists. The class will be conducted completely in
Spanish which will give students the opportunity
to not only learn new vocabulary related to Art
but improve their skills in conversational
Spanish. By combining two different cultural arts
enrichment programs in one class, we offer your
child one-of-a-kind experience.
Improv • Red Carpet Improv NEW
New York City’s Award-Winning Improvisation
and Acting School for kids, Red Carpet Improv,
is now being offered at The Carrollton School!
Voted Best of NY Magazine and Timeout Kids,
Red Carpet Improv will teach your children how
to hone their creativity, comedy, and acting skills.
Through games, sketches, and scenes, students
will boost their self-confidence, invigorate their
imagination and laugh their way throughout this
creativity-building class. At Red Carpet Improv,
we believe there is nothing more exciting than a
child’s imagination and we seek to nurture and
expand their innate creative talents. Improvisation
is a powerful learning instrument that teaches
children to improve their listening and observation
skills and to be present in the moment. It is
beneficial for all types of kids, from outgoing to shy.
WORLD LANGUAGE PROGRAM
A “learn by doing” approach. We
explore cultural traditions and practices
using everyday phrases, stories,
games, and music in our classes.

Food For Thought • Chef Stef
Food For Thought focuses on teaching children
the basics of nutrition while introducing them
to delightful and healthy cuisine from around the
world. The students will learn what a balanced
diet really is and how to make some of their
favorite dishes into healthier versions. By
defining words like, “gluten”, “carbohydrates”,
and “processed foods” then discussing,
students will learn what is good and bad for their
bodies. This will help students make better diet
choices and develop healthy eating habits that
will last a lifetime.
FUNdamentals — Sports NEW
Development • Nicole Randall
(Intermediate)
Learning games and sports skills made FUN!
This course teaches the fundamental skills used
in multiple sports while further developing
strength, balance and flexibility. Activities
include entry-level softball, soccer, running,
tennis, volleyball and more. Each sport will
be covered for a minimum of 3 weeks and
include an introduction of the rules and
ethics. FUNdamentals will help participants’
build confidence to improve on each skill and
promotes sportsmanship.
Hola! • Susana Pfeifer
This course develops the skill and
understanding students need to wield
Spanish conversationally. Every exercise
and activity has students speaking,
listening, acting, and learning, and is
enriched by studies of Spanish and
Latin American cultures.
Adventures Through China •
Charlene Chang
Discover the wonders of China! Students
learn to speak, read, and write Mandarin
Chinese through games, role-playing,
and storytelling. Explore the world’s last
pictorial language and its fascinating
and tumultuous history. Emphasis is
placed on learning uniquely Chinese
customs in the ways of cuisine,
geography, and social conventions.
Bonjour! • Laurence Wilhelm
Bonjour les amis! In this class students
will develop an awareness of the French
Language through stories, rhymes and
songs practice memorization skills and
learn new vocabulary with games and
dances. The lessons are planned around
a diversity of themes and projects, which
are practical, interesting and great fun!

Kidz in Motion • Nicole Randall
This class is designed to introduce children to
the basic concepts of various sports and other
important physical exercises such as strength,
balance and flexibility. Our goal is to promote
good sportsmanship, as well as a focus on
individual achievement to help student’s
improve their self-confidence. We will be
introducing a fun new sport or activity each
week. Classes will include warm-ups,
exercises, the sport activity of the week
and stretching.

Code Explorers® CyberChicas™ • (Montessori M4-M5)
This program introduces participants to computational thinking and the beginning of
computer programming utilizing the new MIT's graphical block coding technology, and
Stanford University Design Thinking methodology. Participants will be creating sequences
and programs on tablets, creating graphics interfaces, program with and ultimately create
games they can play over and over again. Understand repeat loops, create objects and
program them, learn how to use conditionals, write graphical computer programs, learn
how to manipulate objects and its characteristics and understand how variables work
on objects.

This program introduces participants to computer programming utilizing the new MIT's

computer programs, learn how to manipulate objects and its characteristics, understand
how variables work on objects, and understand conditionals and how they are used.
“littleBitsTM of STEAM” Program • Susy Chu (Intermediate)
Students will be able to enthusiastically engage in STEAM projects using a universal,
21st-century language: electronic building blocks, “littleBits™”. The intuitive, color-coded
Bits™ each have a specific function (ie. motion, lights, sound, sensors, internet
connectivity), and all the Bits snap together with magnets to make larger circuits. With
littleBits™, through open-ended designs and real-world applications, students will be
able to ignite their curiosity and actively participate in developing critical and creative
thinking, as well as problem solving skills. Students will “steam ahead” in our new
Idea Lab makerspace.

Sewing and knitting are wonderful social
activities that are also fun ways for kids to
work with their hands and extend the
benefits of practical life skills and lessons.
Children continue to develop fine motor skills
and concentration while building self-confidence
with successful experiences and a great
sense of accomplishment.

This developmental program teaches the
appropriate skills for each age group. Fun
games, instructional scrimmages and other
activities are the techniques used to ensure
success for each participant.
Swimming • Nicole Randall
Swimming lessons are a vital part of your
children’s development. This class teaches
children of all ages water survival skills
including stroke development, breathing
techniques and skill coordination.
Swim Team Prep
NEW
• Nicole Randall (Primary)
This program is geared toward swim team
readiness. Program will help develop the
requirements to join a swim team —
completion of 100m of consecutive freestyle
(with side breathing) and 100m of consecutive
backstroke. Children will improve endurance
and further develop and refine the various
strokes. Swimmers must commit to training
twice per week.
Tennis for Kids • Grove Isle
We are pleased to offer a high quality tennis
program right on our school campus! The
program develops sportsmanship, social
skills and motor skills with an opportunity for
enjoyment and challenge of the game of
tennis for children. This combination
promotes success and the desire to learn.
NEW
Tumbling • Premier Dance
Taught by Premier Dance this acro-gymnasticbased course focuses on a range of skill
levels: beginning with the introduction of
basic tumbling skills progressing into more
advanced skills. With the use of parachutes,
beanbags, mini trampolines, sliders, and bee
bouncers — the fun never ends! Our
program allows students to focus on their
development by actively using prior learned
knowledge to comprehend new skills each
week. The class is taught by Kimberly
Thomson who is a third generated dancer
with more than 25 years of experience as a
performer, choreographer and instructor.
Yoga • Christina Algeciras
Come experience the joy of Yoga! Each class
includes breathing techniques, warm-up,
poise practice and relaxation. Students will
learn the fundamental yoga principles by
engaging in poses, music, dance. This class is
designed to help your child find balance,
develop strength and flexibility, build
self-esteem and confidence, manage stress
and have fun!
Zumba • Premier Dance NEW
Taught by Premier Dance, this ZUMBA
course is perfect for students looking to have
a lot of fun in a high-energy dance class! As
a group we will learn how to break down
steps within routines while adding games
and activities throughout the session. Our
Zumba games and activities assist our
Dance Instructors in incorporating fitness,
teamwork and positive self-esteem as each
child has the chance to share their creativity
with others every week!

Dance Program • Marielly Ramirez
Pre-Ballet I (Introductory Level)
An introduction to dance for girls 3 to 5 years old, this class develops loco-motor skills,
flexibility and an appreciation for ballet through creative movement and exercises from
the basic elements of ballet. The routine for this class includes a floor warm-up,
followed by ballet barre, center and across the floor exercises. The design of the class
allows the girls to use their imagination and creativity in order to teach them to move
efficiently and in and organized way within the group.
Ballet I
Offered to girls 6 years or older, this class teaches them the structure of a formal ballet
class. Emphasis is placed on the development of alignment, strength, flexibility,
coordination, style and an understanding of the vocabulary used to describe movement
in ballet. These elements will be developed through exercises at the barre, and center
and across the floor combinations.
Preparatory Flamenco
This is an introduction to flamenco for children 3 to 5 years old. The class is designed
to teach young children flamenco in a fun way. Students will develop a basic understanding
of the rhythm, footwork and arm work used in this style of dance through activities
appropriate for their age group. Castanets are also taught in this class.
Flamenco I
Offered to children 6 years or older, this class formally introduces students to the
rhythmic structure of flamenco while learning the basic technique of this type of dance.
Emphasis is placed on correct posture and articulation of the arms and feet. In
addition, sevillanas and basic castanet technique are taught in this class.

Handwriting Club
— Montessori and Grade 3 • Schedule and Fees
Montessori — Fine Motor Club
This small group will look at skills children need to master before entering Kindergarten, such as: lines,
shapes, grip and drawing a person. Session will consist of a motor activity, an interactive lesson with a
multisensory approach using a variety of materials reinforcing with what they are learning in the classroom.
Primary — Cursive Club (3rd Grade Only)
Cursive Club is for those children beginning to learn cursive or for those children needing to refresh cursive
skills. We will go over correct letter formation and connections. All sessions will include FUN multisensory
activities to incorporate motor learning leading to success with cursive.

Miami Handwriting was founded by Nicole Santamaria OTR/L. Nicole has been an occupational therapist for
over 15 years with a vast experience in pediatrics and adults. She is currently providing handwriting tutoring
services to children in the Miami area. She is experienced in handwriting curriculums, such as Handwriting
without Tears, D’ Nealian and Zaner- Bloser.

Schedule and Fees
The After School Academic Program (ASAP) focuses
on math and reading concepts, study skills and
homework help and promotes collaboration between
the tutor and teacher. At the end of the session, a
narrative will be provided by the teacher to the parent.

Services are available for all subject areas for
grade levels 1-12.

Student teacher ratio is 3 to 1.
■
Classes will be cancelled if they do not meet

Spring 2016 Developmental Sport Program
— Grades 4-8 • Schedule and Fees
The Developmental Sport Program is designed to introduce our students to the various
sports that we offer at Carrollton. We focus on the individual skills required to participate and
to be successful in a given sport. We encourage all of our students to participate whether
they are a beginner or have previous experience in the sport. These developmental
programs give those who are interested in strengthening the skills necessary to compete or
continue competing an excellent opportunity.
Developmental Basketball
(Grades 4 – 8) • Daniel Linares
The Developmental Basketball Program
clinics will focus on fundamentals and
drills in preparation for competitive play.
Skills and drills will center on shot
technique, ball handling skills, footwork,
and help participants to develop an
appreciation for the value of “Team.”

The Developmental Golf Program will be
held at the Biltmore Hotel Golf Course in
Coral Gables. The program will allow

specific skills, teach golf-specific skills and
most importantly, let the kids have fun,
creating a love for the game. February

The Developmental Volleyball program
will introduce the game of volleyball and

challenged with more complex skills and
strategies. April 11th-May 20th.

Registration is available on the parent portal and must be made online.

A statement will be generated on a monthly basis. Full payment must be received in a timely
manner in order to continue with the service.

Registration forms are available on the parent portal and should be submitted as soon as
registration opens to guarantee a class space.
After School

Registration must be made online. We will not accept walk-ins or mailed forms.
■
Online registration will begin on December 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Enrollment in a class
is subject to approval by the After School Office.

Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis through registration on the parent portal.
■
Payment must be received for the registration to be complete and space reserved in the class.
■
Classes may be cancelled if they do not meet minimum enrollment.
■
If a class is cancelled by the After School Office, you will be notified by email or phone and
receive a refund.
■
No credits or make-ups are available for absence.
■
Refunds and cancellations must take place prior to the third session. A $50 processing fee
will be assessed per child.
Extended Day Care / Library Study Hall and Enrichment Dismissal Procedures
■
At school dismissal, students are escorted to the designated Extended Day Care/Library
Study Hall meeting place by their After School Program (ASP) teacher. At that point, all ASP
students check in with their ASP staff member and begin their daily activities. A healthy
snack will be provided to every student participating in an After School Program.
■
All children participating in our programs must be signed out by a parent or an authorized
party.
■
All students enrolled in the Enrichment Program and After School Academic Program
(ASAP), can stay in the Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall Program until 6:00 p.m. at
no extra charge the day of the class. In addition, sign up for four enrichment classes and
stay on Friday in the Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall at no charge.

All children will be signed out from both Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall, Enrichment
Program and After School Academic Program (ASAP) by a parent or an authorized party in
the following locations:
• Montessori and Primary (Primary Library/Duchesne Campus)
• Intermediate and Junior High (Founders Library/Barat Campus)
■
For your child’s safety and protection, all children will be dismissed by After School Program
(ASP) teachers. If you need to pick up your child early from a scheduled class, please go
directly to the Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall to sign out your child.
