Trained as a master printer at Gemini GEL, Beehn employs photography, painting, and printmaking techniques to create unique works erikbeehn.com [email protected] Floral Study #2 28 in x 22 in Acrylic and Solvents on Photo Paper 2014 My work explores mark making throughout the 20th century, interested in the shift from landscape to abstraction. Utilizing the use of stock photography I navigate through a JPEG culture that saturates our visual understanding of the world we live in, raising questions of authorship, beauty, and representation. Employing process as content, I hope to smudge the barriers between Photography, Painting, and Printmaking 000004432099_Still 51.5 in x 41.5 in Acrylic, Solvents and Collage on Photo Paper 2015 Floral Study #3 28 in x 22 in Acrylic and Solvents on Photo Paper 2014 02 NICHOLAS BUTCHER Nick Butcher is an artist and musician living in Chicago, IL. His practice stretches across several fields including printmaking, graphic design, fine art and music production. In addition to his own work, he has worked collaboratively his wife, Nadine Nakanishi since 2006, as Sonnenzimmer, a graphic arts studio specializing in screen printed posters, publication design, and gallery exhibitions. www.sonnenzimmer.com [email protected] Ode to Oda 1 24 in x 36 in Monoprint 2015 My work straddles the lines between formats, teeters on the edge of obsolescence, test the boundaries of irrelevance, and is generally okay with being called art or design. Whether working in a gallery context or as commercial graphic artists, process is a cornerstone to my approach to art making. Concept comes through doing and failure is considered a step in the right direction Pewter Image 2 detail 20 in x 16 in Plastic-casted Monotype 2015 MFA Show installation view 03 TESSA DALLAROSA Tessa Dallarosa is from Denver by way of Laramie, Wyoming. She current lives and works in Chicago [email protected] Boat 15 in x 9 in x 35 in Beetlekill Pine, silver leaf, fabric 2015 I am a friend to formalism, one liners, slips of the tongue and studio accidents, failed attempts, tools and bad jokes, Goodwill piles, scrap materials, the color pink and “cuteness”, embodied knowing, intuition, attention to attention, making and remaking things. I believe we make objects like we make selves. We are shaped by the glut of things all around, the material world we cull, collect, neglect, repair and sort Skin Like Paper, Paper Like Water Dyed paper and toner on paper 15 ft x 18 in x 11 ft 2014 Scrapscration Scrapbook Clamshell box and fabric 2014-15 04 TREVOR GOOSEN Born: 1986 Sacramento, CA Lives and works in San Francisco, CA trevorgoosen.com [email protected] Smooth Breeze 36 in X 54 in X 18 in Plywood, Webbing, Acrylic, Nylon 2014 I create sculpture and images formed by various methods of hand and digital fabrication. The work is a personal response to designed functional objects and interior architecture utilizing repetition, line, and pattern. The work is an exploration into cognitive perceptions and the functionality of materials and objects. I am an inquisitive observer constantly searching for different ways to understand the subtleties of things in the world. My work is driven by a sense of curiosity, discovery, realization, and learning from everyday life and ongoing studio practice Pure Moods Vol. 1 36 in X 30 in X 30 in Plywood 2015 Great America 36 in X 24 in X 80 in Plywood, Mirror, Porcelain, Webbing 2015 05 LEAH MACKIN (b. 1985, Philadelphia, PA) BFA / Printmaking and Book Arts, The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, PA MFA / Studio, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL Lives and works in Pittsburgh, PA leahmackin.com [email protected] Untitled (Swipe I) 12 in x 17 in x 5 in Toner on paper mounted to panel, wallmounted steel shelf 2014 Through material studies and experimentation, I manipulate paper, metal and plastic to record my interactions. The images that I create are ambiguous, formal investigations that reference drawing, the history of photographic and printmaking processes, and contemporary image-making methodology. Like the ubiquitous oil slick fingerprint across the screen of a mobile device, the act of dog-earing a book page as a reference, or the nervous gesture of curling a sheet of paper while, say, waiting in line, my works are poetic reminders of the sensuousness of the quotidian touch Untitled 66 in x 16 in inkjet print on wallmounted steel shelf 2015 Untitled installation dimensions: 26 in x 300 in x 8 in print size: 24 in x 365.5 in inkjet print on polyester film, acrylic, steel, wood 2014 06 CHRIS PARMELEE Born in California MS Physics, 2011 MFA 2015 Light cannot be nailed to a board. We cannot simultaneously know where it is and where it is going, which makes it very difficult to question its motives christopherparmelee.com [email protected] “So Light, what is your work about?” “Many, many things. As it should be – sufficiently complex, both emotionally and intellectually, for myself and whoever is watching. I make my own meaning, as we all do – yet in the midst and scaffolding of others.” MFA Show installation 168 in x 140 in Screenprint on paper, oil on linen, resin 2015 Pool 60 in x 48 in Archival Inkjet Print 2013 Goat 20 in x 24 in Oil on Canvas 2013 07 JESSICA SIMMONS Jessica was born in Providence, RI. She lives and works in Los Angeles, CA jessicaesimmons.com [email protected] Installation view: Geometric Flush (Recto /Verso A) and Geometric Flush (Recto / Verso B) 2015 Employing methodologies of drawing, printmaking, and photography, my work contemplates the phenomenological rupture that exists between surface as image, surface as index, and surface as object. Marks function as both investigative tools and discrete bodies of inquiry; material becomes propositional AN ACCUMULATION OF SUFFICIENT ABRASION TO REMOVE ENOUGH OF AN OPAQUE SURFACE TO LET LIGHT THROUGH WITH MORE INTENSITY Lawrence Weiner, 1981 Untitled 67 in x 50 in Powdered charcoal, powdered graphite, and ink on sanded and scored paper 2014 Untitled (from Vestiges) 30 in x 22 in Photolithograph on paper 2014 08 AMANDA SUKENICK Amanda Sukenick, (Oldphan) received a BFA & MFA from SAIC in 2007 & 2015 respectively. She started making Youtube videos In 2009, originally as a toy reviewer, & now co-produces a public access, philosophy variety show, Vloggerdome, and is now finishing her first movie, The EFIList [email protected] https://www.youtube.com/user/ ForeverWolfFilms https://www.youtube.com/user/ Vloggerdome http://www.oldphan.com/ Frankenstien’s Laboratory (Dr. Frankensteins Laboratory set, as it appeared in the movie, The EFIList) Cardboard, paint, props 2015 My work is a study of tension between the concepts of archive & extinction. Obsession and monstrosity are no longer enough, now comes the question of responsibility. Through projects in print, sculpture, archive building, performance, music, video sharing & social media, my work revolves around such topics as Antinatalism/Efilism, Extinction, and The Right to Die. On Youtube, I have witnessed thousands of examples of philosophical, intellectual, subcultural, and activist pieces of art and communication be censored, destroyed and forgotten. In an effort towards the preservation of memes, yet understanding the futility of chasing after permanence, my life is dedicated none the less, to the building, in a myriad of mediums, archives to the many subjects I feel to be important to the future sentience. Lets hold on to everything tightly, lets kiss it and tell it we love it, lets create, archive and index, and then lets say goodbye Dr. Frankenstien (Portrait of Dr. Frankenstein from the movie, The EFIList) Photo, performance 2015 Slaughter House Pig #Unknown (Portrait of The Slaughter House Pig character from the movie, The EFIList) Photo, performance 2015 09 Anne Yafi BFA, 2011: Northern Illinois University MFA, 2015: The School of the Art Institute Chicago anneyafi.com [email protected] Super Trouper 40 in x 40 in x 132 in Pipe cleaners, mixed media 2015 I experiment with found objects and craft materials as alternatives and commentary on traditional paint mediums and formats which address consumer culture via an orientation towards pleasure.
