Cork, Ireland MATERIALS AND METHODS INTRODUCTION § The determination of antral follicle count (AFC) and anti-‐Müllerian hormone (AMH) in dairy cows and their association with fertility is an area of interest to many researchers. Day of Calving § Low AFC and AMH concentrations are reportedly associated with poor reproductive outcomes in dairy cattle (Mossa et al., 2012 JDS Vol 95 and Ribeiro et al., 2014 JDS Vol 97). § Even though, the repeatability of AFC has been reported on a specific day of different estrous cycles (Burns et al., 2005 BOR), the repeatability between random ovarian stages has not been reported. 14±1 DIM 75±1 DIM Plasma AMH determined at a random stage of an estrous cycle Plasma AMH determined at Day 1 of controlled estrous cycle Figure 2: Blood samples were also collected from same 100 lactating Holstein cows to determine plasma concentration of AMH (AnshLite Bovine AMH CLIA, Ansh Labs, Webster, TX) at 14±1 and 75±1 days in milk (DIM). STATISTICAL ANALYSES § The MEANS procedure of SAS was used to obtain the mean and standard error of means for the continuous variables. OBJECTIVE § The objective of this study was to evaluate the repeatability of AFC and plasma AMH concentrations at two different postpartum stages. § Correlations among continuous variables determined using the CORR procedure of SAS. RESULTS MATERIALS AND METHODS Day of Calving 14±1 DIM 75±1 DIM AFC determined at a random stage of an estrous cycle AFC determined at Day 1 of controlled estrous cycle Figure 1: The ovaries of 100 lactating Holstein cows were subjected to transrectal ultrasonography (Aloka Co Ltd., Tokyo, Japan) by a single individual using a 7.5 MHz linear array transducer to determine AFC at 14±1 and 75±1 days in milk (DIM) Table 1: Central Statistics for AFC and AMH determined at both 14 ± 1 and 75 ± 1 DIM AFC (#) AFC (#) AMH (pg/mL) AMH (pg/mL) 14 ± 1 DIM 75 ± 1 DIM 14 ± 1 DIM 75 ± 1 DIM (n=100) (n=100) (n=100) (n=100) Mean ± SEM 27 ± 1 23 ± 1 190.0 ± 12.8 224.8 ± 14.3 Range 10 -‐ 53 6 -‐ 45 13.0 – 528.8 38.2 – 774.1 37.4 42.5 66.9 63.5 CV* (%) *CV: Coefficient of Variation The repeatability of antral follicle count and anti-‐Müllerian hormone concentration at two different postpartum stages in dairy cattle M.
