Your Will or Living Trust
Other Options
Your will and trust allow you to distribute
your property as you wish for family,
friends and causes you believe in. If
you already have a will or trust, you can
normally add or increase a charitable
bequest with a simple one page
amendment. And of course, no federal
estate taxes will be due on the value of the
bequest.

You can:
The following are five common ways of
making a bequest, along with suggested
language:
You can name the Project Wildlife
program as the primary or secondary
beneficiary of all or a portion of your life
insurance policy. If your policy is paid in
full, you can donate the policy and receive
a tax deduction now.
• Donate a Percentage of Your Estate
CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY
• Make a Specific Dollar Bequest
You can provide a gift to the Project
Wildlife program and receive both income
and a charitable tax deduction. You may
also qualify for capital gains tax reduction
and deferral.
• Designate a specific dollar amount or
piece of property to be given to Project
Wildlife, a program of San Diego
Humane Society
• Designate a percentage of your overall
estate
• Name the Project Wildlife program as a
contingent beneficiary, should one or more
primary beneficiaries not survive you
If you have an IRA, 401(k) or 403(b)
plan, you can name Project Wildlife, a
program of San Diego Humane Society,
as a primary or secondary beneficiary to
receive all or a portion of the proceeds
from your retirement plan.

In order to leave a gift to the Project
Wildlife program in your will or trust, you
can use the following language:
“I give [dollar amount, specific item or
percentage of estate] to San Diego Humane
Society, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation
(Tax ID 95-1661688) to be restricted to their
programs and services which assist injured,
orphaned and sick wild animals (currently
called the Project Wildlife program).”
