WAIKATO RUGBY UNION CLUB RUGBY NEWS Saturday 28 June 2014 Photo courtesy of Heddfan Photography PREMIER WEEK 15 REVIEW RESULTS, DRAWS & STANDINGS THIS WEEKEND’S TEAM LISTS PREMIER FORM XV PREMIER week 15 review Otorohanga moved into first spot with a bonus point win over Morrinsville Sports, with University one point back after a last minute victory over Hamilton Marist. Other Round 15 wins went to Hamilton Old Boys, Fraser Tech and Hautapu. Fraser Tech 29 - Melville 20 Fraser Tech overcame a halftime deficit to beat Melville at Collins Road and keep themselves right on the heels of the top four. Prop Latu Talakai continued his amazing try scoring run, getting two of Tech’s five tries, as the club was able to celebrate captain Richard Johnston’s 100th match for the blue and whites with a win. Melville, up 15-12 at the break, scored three tries in the match with two to centre Atu Masirewa but were reeled in by a determined and patient Tech side. University 17 – Hamilton Marist 15 A late try from Number 8 Louis Rogers secured University their win over Hamilton Marist at Marist Park. Lock Will Mangos scored University’s other try and fullback Te Raina Richards-Coxhead kicked seven points, including the match winning conversion. Marist scored a try in each half, to fullback Jono Malo and loose forward Josh Tyrell, and looked on course for the win with a five point lead late in the match until the late Rogers try denied them. Otorohanga 36 – Morrinsville Sports 11 Otorohanga continued on their merry way with yet another bonus point win, this time over Morrinsville Sports at Island Reserve. In-form fullback Te Amo Wilbore crossed for a hat-trick with prop Josh Ostern, wing Sekove Seriki and flanker Zak Hohneck also dotting down. Morrinsville had some hope at halftime, trailing 19-6 with two penalties from first five Sam McLeod, but managed just a try to prop David Lopes in the second half as Otorohanga pulled away. Hautapu 17 – Te Awamutu Sports 13 The ‘Battle of the Waipa’ at Albert Park was as usual a tightly fought contest, but it was Hautapu who took out the derby match for the second time this year. Midfielders Thomas Orr and Jason Thomasen stood out for Hautapu and between them scored the visitor’s three tries. Te Awamutu were right in the match for the 80 minutes with centre Hayden Ivil getting a second half try but Hautapu, on the back of a much improved effort from their forward pack, hung on for the win. Hamilton Old Boys 80 - Te Rapa 5 Third-placed Hamilton Old Boys cruised to a 14 try win over Te Rapa at St Andrews Park. Nine of Old Boys’ tries were scored by the outside back trio of Anthony Coffey (4), Declan O’Donnell (3) and Jackson Gillett (2) as the visitor’s threw the ball around at will throughout the afternoon. Te Rapa centre Harrison Lafituanai again played strongly and was rewarded with his fifth try of the season.
