Introduction
The sheer pleasure of walking in almost guaranteed sunshine brings a whole new meaning to ‘Turkish
Delight’ and the call of the warm waters of the Mediterranean will surely prove irresistible too. Our a
delightful boutique hotel , with swimming pool is a great base to explore the trails and sights of the
Lycian Way, with trail transfers provided where required. This classic Sunday Times listed “Top Ten
World Walks” now includes a guided tour of the site of Olympos, a dinner at the Havuz Basi fish
restaurant, plus the option to climb to the summit of Mount Olympos (2365m) for the more
adventurous too. You choose from a rotated ‘menu’ of Lycian Walks, selected and prepared by our
resident Lycian Way expert from England and get lots of great advice too, so you can decide what’s
best for you.. In fact there are more choices than there are walking days, so you may even want to
stay longer. Indeed you can extend this holiday with extra nights and relaxation days, or extra
nights and more walking option days. See Accommodation section in this trip dossier for more
details
The area between Cape Gelidonya, Kemer and Yayla Kuzdere offers some fabulous walking on and
around the Lycian Way. This is a fascinating region where ancient history, dramatic mountain scenery
and a rugged coastline combine to create a deeply moving environment for your walks. From your
base in Adrasan, a number of connecting walks combine to offer you a choice of routes, which you
can tailor to suit your aspirations and abilities. All the routes are easily accessible via short (less than
1hr transfers). A number start or end in Adrasan and only require one transfer either to or from the
walk.
This is a beautiful area of mountains covered by natural forest, high pastures, rivers and gorges and
national parks that provide a variety of environments and habitats. All this is of course a backdrop to
the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Mediterranean. Over the spring and autumn walking seasons
a wide selection of flowers will be on show, many migrating birds including African Bee Eaters and
Storks join resident birds such as Bul Bul, Hoopoe, Crested Larks, Kingfishers, Buzzards, Eagles,
Hawks and Egrets. The bay at Adrasan is home to nesting Loggerhead turtles and wild tortoises are a
common sight en route, as are terrapins in the rivers.
The beauty and drama of the terrain and scenery can, at times, leave you speechless but the
hospitality of the local people can also take your breath away. Do not be surprised to get offers to
share a meal, or to take a drink with local farmers or shepherds and their families. This is a strong
agricultural area where traditional values of hospitality and welcome run true and deep.

the Kemer Gorge. Alternatively you can walk

all the way to the summit and then ride back
down on the second longest cable car in the
world. Due to the longer transfers on these
walks an extra charge (approx £12- £30 per
person payable locally-min 2 people) is made
for these options. Both walks start from an
elevation of 900m.
Routine On or shortly after arrival your hosts
(Jon and Sue) will discuss your walking
programme with you and help you select up to
6 walks from a menu of walks. These range
from an easy stroll to the lighthouse at
Adrasan through to a variety of other walks
that offer distances up to 22km and different
walking terrains and challenges. One of the
Routes, Beycik to Olympos (a la carte)
comprises a series of short sections that you
can knit together to vary the distance, duration,
destination and challenge of the walk. You
could even choose to make two different walks
out of the various sections.
Whichever walks you choose will be included
in your walking schedule.
Your hosts will let you know which walks can
be done on which day and help you plan a
great week of walking. You may be asked to
share transfers to and or from walks, with other
guests. You can however be sure that the
choice to walk separately or as part of a group
of guests will be entirely yours.
To that end, for each walk, you will be provided
with your own:·
Route Descriptions and Maps
·
A mobile phone for telephone support
during your walk
There are also additional walks on and around
Mt. Olympos, which towers over the entire
region. At a height of 2,365m (7,760ft) this
legendary home of Zeus is a common vista on
many of the walks. There are walks that climb
to the tree line (1,815m – 5,955ft) before
continuing through majestic Lebanon Cedar
forests to high pastures and a descent down

Weather forecast for the walk
There are six grades of path on the Lycian
way(G1 to G6). These are defined as follows:G1 – An indistinct single file path which is
apparent on soft ground but may be lost over
rocky terrain.
G2 – A distinct single path, visible over stony
or rocky ground but with no sign of
construction or repair.
G3 – A constructed path, built up occasionally
on hairpins or on the lower side over steep
slopes but without continuous construction.
G4 – A constructed path with retaining walls
and cobbles or slabs along most of it’s length
except where sections have fallen away.
G5 – a two lane trator track with grass ridge in
the centre.
G6 – a modern constructed unsurfaced or
gravel surfaced road.
On certain walks guests are asked to phone in
(using the mobile provided) from a key point on
the walk in order to arrange timely transfers
back to Adrasan if they are required.
The markings on the Lycian Way Comprise
Painted Red & White Stripes.
One of each indicates follow the track this way.
A turn or junction is indicated by double Red &
White stripes or a bent single pair.
A red Cross indicates NOT this way.
When planning your walks you should take
account of the mountainous terrain of the
region, the weather during your stay and a
realistic view of your own abilities. It is the
experience of your hosts that the typical
average speeds on these walks range
between 2.75 and 3.5km per hour. These
times include time for breaks. These timings
are included as a planning guide only and will
probably vary quite a bit from walk to walk and
person to person. In general it is a good idea
to schedule an easier walk as the first walk in
your programme and then work up from there.
There are additional green and white and
sometimes blue and white markings which
relate to the same track.
Many parts of the trail are marked by cairns
particularly in rocky areas or where the trail
follows hairpins.
Walking conditions The walking is varied with
mixed but generally good conditions underfoot.
The walking is moderate and primarily over
undulating terrain, following dirt tracks, trails
and backroads, the odd beach and even
stream crossings. The programme offers a
range of walks, short sections of which are
more challenging, together with a few easier
options. The routes are primarily over
undulating terrain, generally following dirt
tracks, trails and backroads, the odd beach
and even stream crossings. There are
however short steep and sometimes rocky
paths on some walks. The daily distances are
reasonably challenging and most days involve
both ascent and descent, although these
sections are rarely sustained and should
present no difficulty to a regular, strong
hillwalker with a good level of fitness. You will
only have to carry your daypack during the
walking day, as your main luggage remains at
the hotel. Details of the walking distances,
approximate walking times (excluding rest
stops), ascent and descent can be found in the
walk descriptions.

A full explanation of the trip grading can be
found in our brochure or online at
www.walksworldwide.com. You should ensure
you are comfortable walking at this level of
grading and are physically prepared for the
trip.
Self-Guided Holiday
As the name suggests, self-guided holidays
are for those that prefer to be independent.
Within reason you are able to dictate your own
schedule, as well as walk at your own pace
with the aid of route notes and maps. All your
accommodation has been reserved in advance
and unless otherwise stated within this trip
dossier, your main baggage is transferred
between each accommodation along the way,
so there’s no need to worry about carrying
heavy loads and having to back pack. This
means you only need to walk each day and
carry your usual lightweight daypack.
However, it is important that you are entirely
comfortable with being independent whilst on a
walking holiday.

Itinerary
IMPORTANT- Before booking you should read
our “Types of Trip” and “Essential and Useful
information” sections on
www.walksworldwide.com including our ‘Important
Warning’.
Due to the specialist nature of our holidays, day
to day itineraries should be taken as a guide
only, and as statements of intent and not
contractual obligations. We regularly update our
trip dossiers to take into account changes to
trekking routes, accommodation, local transport
etc. Such changes are a factor of this type of
holiday and when made are out of necessity.
Other factors such as adverse weather,
unforeseen circumstances and other matters
entirely out of our control etc can also lead to
enforced changes during the course of the
holiday. It is not possible to guarantee that any
of our holidays will operate exactly as per the
anticipated itinerary. The most current trip
dossier will be made available on our website.
We will also send you the most up to date trip
dossier with your “Final Joining Instructions”
approx. 2 weeks before departure and you
should carefully check this for any changes that
may affect your plans.
Route Notes- Help keep them up to date
Things can and do change along the routes
that self-guided walking holidays follow. A sign
may have been changed, or even removed, a
path may have been obstructed, even rerouted, a landmark the route notes refer to
may simply no longer exist. It is clearly
impossible to keep track of all the changes that
may occur outside the local tour operators
control and knowledge. It may be the route
notes translation can be improved (they are
translated into several languages by the local
operator after all) too. Clearly a case of “last
person to walk the route” has the most up to
date information. In the spirit of camaraderie
amongst walkers and in an effort to constantly
keep route notes updated and improved upon,
the local operator (contact details in your final
joining instructions) will always welcome
notification of any changes along the
way/recommendations for improvement if you
would care to forward any useful and specific
information to them. Alternatively, send to
Walks Worldwide and we will forward
accordingly.

Walk Overview / Highlights
This walk starts with a challenging climb out of the ruins in Olympos. At the end of the climb you
emerge by a shepherds hut on an open patch of land with great views over the valley that is home to
the agricultural part of Adrasan village. There is a spring early in the year with crystal clear mountain
fresh drinking water. A great place for lunch. After lunch a short climb takes you to a hilltop fort and
retreat for the rich and famous of Olympos. Here, amongst the overgrown ruins, you will find huge
water cisterns and various other buildings and temples. Originally a shrine to Zeus the encampment
was later fortified against attack from pirates. From here there are uninterrupted views across Lycia,
Pamphilya & Psidia. Legend has it that this is where the bold Pirate Zenicetes burned himself to death.
After exploring the ruins your route takes you on an undulating series of shady trails through a gorge
to the head of a valley where a G5 track leads to the river restaurants at the North end of Adrasan and
on to the hotel. This is a classic forestry walk with gentle rolling scenery and, particularly in spring, the
tinkling sound of running water.

Walk Overview / Highlights
This is a walk in three parts. The first part is on G5 forestry tracks that climb and descend over a
series of headlands with heights of 150m, 200m & 270m. Past each headland is another isolated bay,
many used by nesting loggerhead turtles. The track descends to sea level each time and passes
around the bays. Short tracks lead down to idyllic swimming stops that match the scenery from the
higher points of the route. The second section is classic coastal trails that wind in and out around low
headlands and tiny coves and inlets before descending down to Cirali / Olympos Beach. On the way
you will see fish farms and mine workings that date back to the 40’s and 50’s when the area was
mined for Chromium. The tracks glisten in the sun as the light catches tiny slivers and pieces of this
once most modern of materials. At the end of Maden beach is a bricked up stone building that houses
a huge rock crushing engine. The second part of the track is a leftover from the miners that came to
work in and around Maden beach. Once you have crossed Cirali / Olympos beach, and maybe
stopped for a final swim, you pass through the ruins at Olympos to reach the meet point amongst the
Backpacker lodges, restaurants and bars.

Walk Overview / Highlights
This is what the Lycian Way is all about. This is a long and sometimes challenging walk into the
wilderness. The route starts on Cape Gelidonya with great views of the Toros Mountains behind
Finike. From here a short climb takes us to the Gelidonya Lighthouse. The 9m high picture book
lighthouse was built in 1936 and has become the iconic symbol of the Lycian Way. From the
lighthouse a steep climb takes us to the top of Taslik Burnu (Stony Point). From here you have great
views back over the lighthouse and out to 5 Islands and the treacherous currents between the Islands
and the Cape. Ahead of you is a journey into a totally unspoiled area of forest and cliff top trails with
glimpses out to sea between the pines. After a winding descent to a pine clad valley a steady climb
takes you past views out to Water Island to a saddle at 390m, the high point of the route. From here
the views are over the sandy bay at Adrasan to Mt. Olympos in the distance as well as Musa Dagi and
Eren Tepe on the far side of the bay. A gentle meander down through the forest leads you back to
your hotel and cool beer by the pool.

This is generally an easy walk, mostly on G5 forest tracks. A short section descends through the forest
on a G2 trail before opening out to a G3 tractor track.
Walk Overview / Highlights
This is a gentle walk that starts at the delightful Pirates Bay, where there are remains of the old
fortifications and a temple that looks out over the sea. The initial part of the walk is through shade
dappled forest along Cape Gelidonya, leading to a steady climb to a saddle above the village of
Karaoz. This is a generally shady section with wonderful views across the bay, to the mountains
behind Kumluca and Finike. From the saddle the route heads into a valley and passes through
farmland and orchards. Here goats wander freely accompanied by their shepherds. Soon the route
takes you onto a meandering G2 goat track that descends down the side of the valley to meet a tractor
trail that leads to a small hamlet of stone cottages. From here the path leads through the agricultural
part of Adrasan to the river that enters Adrasan bay to the North. Here you will find restaurants with
tables on pontoons in the river, ideal to cool and soak you walk weary feat before continuing on along

Walk Overview / Highlights
This walk starts with a 1½ -2hr tour of the ancient city of Olympos. This is a great city in which to
explore and learn about the history, development & eventual demise of the Lycian League which dates
back over 3,000 years and was one of the richest and most sophisticated civilizations of the ancient
world. You will walk a time line through this city covering the Trojan Wars through to the middle ages.
Then, after a swimming break on Olympos, beach you will head through Cirali towards Fire Mountain
(Yanartaş). The flames here have been burning for over 2,000 years and appear on ancient mariner’s
maps as they can be seen from the sea. Legend tells us that the Lycian hero warrior and nephew of
Zeus, Bellepheron rode the winged horse Pegasus and slayed the Dragon Chimera here. The
“Dragon” was, it is claimed, buried under the mountain and is the cause of the flames. After passing
the flames your route climbs steadily to a saddle. From the saddle the route descends into and then
rises out of a wooded valley before climbing to Ulupinar (Wonderful spring) to a fish farm and
restaurant for some of the best and most traditional food of the region. Here you will take an early
evening meal before heading back to the hotel.

Walk Overview / Highlights
An ideal first day for those that want to ease into their week and just want to explore Adrasan Bay, maybe have a swim,
and just stretch legs after a full day or night travelling. If this suits you then there is a delightful walk of just 5km along
narrow goat tracks that criss cross the southern headland of Adrasan Bay. You will come to rocky crags from where you
can look out over the sea with nothing between you and the sands of the Sahara and the Middle East. The walk starts
above a tiny cove, home to a small fleet of fishing boats. This is a great place for a swim and to snorkel on your return.
The beach at Adrasan is almost exactly 2km long and is lined with small bars and restaurants. At the Northern end of the
bay is a small river where restaurants have tables on pontoons which are ideal to help you relax and chill down to
Adrasan’s leisurely pace. For those wanting a bit more of a challenge there is another track on your way back from the
lighthouse which was built by American Chrome miners. The track leads to the top of the headland ridge where you can
explore the remains of the chrome mine and have great views along the coast. All in all this is a great welcome to
Adrasan and you can be sure you will already have made new friends before you return to the hotel.
The option to go to the Chrome mine has not been included in the metrics above. Allow an hour on the way there , most
of which is a stiff climb to the ridge top on a rough and rocky G3 track.

This is a classic headland walk that takes you along the northern side of Adrasan Bay. From here you have great views
across the bay to the cove where fishing boats moor and then to the small lighthouse and keepers cottage at the tip of the
headland on the other side of the bay. The first part of the track climbs steadily and is largely shaded by the forest on
either side of the track. As you draw level with the end of the headland opposite you have ranging views along the coast
and to water Island and the Gelidonya Cape in the distance. Here the track turns inland and passes small meadows
before taking a series of hairpins (switchbacks) through a valley with a gorge to your right. As the track levels by an large
open meadow the bushes that are the backdrop to Sazak Bay come into view. Sazak is an isolated cove with high
mountain borders and an ideal picnic spot. It is a popular spot for daily boat trips from Adrasan, as well as a lovely bay the
mud from the river bed here is reputed to be good for the complexion. Now the choices are yours:Walk back to the hotel, get picked up by a fishing boat and taxied back to Adrasan or join a day trip on a boat to other
bays and coves. AND Finally . . . to mud bath or not?

Walk Overview / Highlights
Adrasan people are famous for their hospitality. These walks are designed to take you in and around the places where
they work, live and relax. You can expect children to practice their few words of English. Their mothers and fathers will
welcome you and will sometimes offer you drinks, presents and food. As your route takes you from one hamlet to another
you will pass orchards, greenhouses, farmyards and small fields of grain. As you climb to the ridge top hamlet of Selemit
Koy you will pass grazing land with views down to the sea at Olympos and Adrasan before you descend to Adrasan
village to join the locals in the bars and tea houses for lunch and then a visit to a market that has nothing to do with tourist
tat and a lot to do with the local’s weekly shopping. From here a gentle walk takes you back to the hotel on riverside
tracks. Whilst our initial thought were for this to be a Sunday only walk, a number of customers have enjoyed visiting the
village via this route on non-market days.
The route can start in the agricultural area at the Optional Start Point shown or you can extend the walk by starting from
the hotel.

From the drop off point in the charming village of Upper Beycik the views down the slopes of the mountain and out to sea
are stunning, and just keep getting better as the walk progresses. The paths and trails are a steady climb through natural
pine forest, past wild orchards and into the high Lebanon Cedar Forest. The cedar trees are huge and sporadically
placed, giving great views around the landscape. This is an area of high hill farming for large herds of mountain goats,
which are much bigger than their coastal relatives. As you reach the tree line the scree covered summit appears before
you and the tracks across the slopes are visible. Here a camp site makes a great spot for lunch before you take on the
summit. At the top you will have views over the entire area that you have walked and over the Beydagli Mountain range to
the rear, and with coastal views to Antalya and Alanya in the East and to Finike and beyond in the West. The way down is
no less dramatic; the cable car is the second longest in the world. This mountain is not the highest in the world, but few
mountains rise this far from the surrounding terrain and very few have this sort of coastal position. More than twice the
height of Table Mountain and many times higher than Sugarloaf in Rio this is a unique experience!

Walk Overview / Highlights
If you like mountain walking this is a must do for you. From the drop off point in the charming village of Upper Beycik the
views down the slopes of the mountain and out to sea are stunning, and just keep getting better as the walk progresses.
The paths and trails are a steady climb through natural pine forest, past wild orchards and into the high Lebanon Cedar
Forest. The cedar trees are huge and sporadically placed, giving great views around the landscape. This is an area of
high hill farming for large herds of mountain goats, which are much bigger than their coastal relatives. As you reach the
tree line the scree covered summit appears before you. From here your route takes you through more cedar forest, past
carstic bowls and into a land of high mountain pastures. This is where the semi nomadic people of the region bring their
livestock in the summer to get away from the heat and humidity of the coast. As you cross pastures and begin your
descent the Kemer Gorge opens up ahead, a dramatic gash in the mountains that runs right down to the coast. As you
make your way down on gentle goat tracks, through dense cedar forest the sound of the mosque will drift up the valley
from Gedelme and draw you to the traditional mountain village of Yayla Kuzdere. This second section is a collection of
mountain streams, alpine flowers, fragrant herbs and scenery to dream about.

On leaving the Ulucinar nomadic café you head straight into a valley beside a stream and head uphill through thick forest
on narrow goat trails. As you reach the ridge top the paths level off somewhat but rise slightly upwards as they roll around
the slopes of Omurga Mountain. In ancient times these slopes and the valley below were terraced by the Lycians and
grapes were grown here. The valley is overlooked by the majestic Mt. Olympos and here among the criss crossing goat
trails you will find the remains of an ancient tomb; which was originally positioned here to overlook the occupant’s domain
and to be guarded by the gods of the distant mountain. From here you climb a little more to a brook used as a watering
point by shepherds, before ascending a river bed to find our selves in the midst of a pomegranate orchard. After a short
climb you wander through farm lands and small farmsteads before heading over open farmland and heading down to
Kadir’s Tree Houses for a well earned drink.

Practical Information
Please contact the Walks Worldwide office to
check the status of your chosen holiday
BEFORE purchasing your International Air
ticket. You should not book your International
flight tickets or other travel arrangements until
your chosen holiday is guaranteed to run. If
you are purchasing your own air ticket, you
should be aware that most of the cheaper
airline tickets available for sale on the Internet
or from low cost carriers are non-refundable in
the case of cancellation. For this reason we
strongly advise you check the rules of the
ticket when you make a flight booking, and
check the limitations of any cancellation
insurance policy you have. We cannot be held
liable, for losses incurred relating to any flight
bookings or subsequent travel arrangements
you have made yourself.
Joining Arrangements and Transfers
You will be met upon arrival at Antalya Airport,
which is the joining point for this trip on day 1
of the trip itinerary and transferred to your
accommodation in Adrasan (approx 1hr 45
mins journey time) . At the end of the trip on
day 8 you will be transferred back to Antalya
Airport from Adrasan. These transfers will
coincide with your flight arrival time and
subsequent check-in time for your departing
flight. These transfers may be shared with
other guests of the hotel arriving/departing at
similar times to yourselves.
International Travel
The nearest airport and joining point for this
trip is Antalya.
For total flexibility and choice, the price of our
holidays often excludes flights. However, as an
ATOL bonded agent we are able to arrange
competitively priced tickets with the majority of
international airlines. Where low cost airlines
offer a better option, we are also able to
arrange these, subject to a small booking fee.
Only by arranging your flights with us can we
offer you the peace of mind and 100% financial
protection that booking with a licensed tour
operator brings.
Baggage
Please make sure that your baggage is clearly
marked with your name, inside as well as
outside, in case the labels get detached. We
request you limit your main luggage to one
piece per person. During the walking day you’ll
carry only your usual daypack as your main
baggage remains at the hotel.
Contact us to discuss your regional flight
options for this holiday.
Passports and Visas
British passport holders (and other EU
passport holders) require a visa to visit Turkey
for stays up to three months (please ensure
your passport has at least 6 months validity).
If you would prefer to make your own
International travel arrangements you can book
this holiday as Land Only. You will need to
book flights that enable you to arrive at Antalya
Airport on Day 1 of the trip itinerary. Return
flights should be booked to depart from Antalya
Airport no sooner than Day 8 of the trip
itinerary. Please note if you are booking Land
Only it is your sole responsibility to ensure you
arrive at the joining point for the contracted
arrangements in good time before these
commence. No refunds will be provided in
respect of any unused services contracted as a
result. Similarly our contractual obligations
cease at the end of your contracted
arrangements.
It is your own responsibility to obtain your own
visas and check all visa requirements for the
countries you are travelling to, so we strongly
suggest checking the latest situation before
booking as well as before travelling. Visa costs
are not included in the trip price. Please ensure
you allow sufficient time to apply for visas. For
the latest information on whether visas are
required, costs etc and visa application
assistance we recommend CIBT Visa Services.
We also recommend you visit the Foreign and
Commonwealth Office website for up to date
information on the country/countries you are
visiting, embassy contact details and other
useful advice.

Accommodation
You stay at the Ottoman Palace Hotel in
Adrasan throughout this holiday. Your hotel
was designed by and is owned and run by a
British couple. It has been designed, built and
fitted out to a high standard. The personnel,
including the chef, are Turkish. A high ratio of
staff to guests means that the laid back and
friendly atmosphere does not detract from
customer service levels.
Extra nights with walking options from Adrasan
base (includes transfers where applicable,
notes etc)
£85 per person (twin share room with breakfast
and dinner)
Both of these options must be booked in
advance. It is not possible to book just extra
nights in advance and then arrange additional
walk options locally.
Please
note
we
cannot
book
accommodation in Antalya or other
locations on the Turquoise Coast as part of
this holiday.
Food
The majority of your meals are provided at the
hotel although there is normally a visit to the
fish farm and restaurant in the mountains at
Ulupinar at least once a week. This is the end
point for one of the walks to see the flames at
Chimera. This meal is included in your land
only package. Breakfast is generally served in
the hotel’s terrace restaurant, as are evening
meals when it is cooler early and late in the
season. Otherwise evening meals are served
outdoors in the poolside restaurant. Breakfast
is a choice of a traditional Turkish (continental
style) breakfast with tea or coffee, fruit juices
and eggs done as you like them. Alternatively
you can opt for a light breakfast with cereals or
muesli, fruit and yoghurt. You can also add
items to your breakfast if you wish but these
will be chargeable. The hotel’s breakfasts are
generally regarded as a good meal to set you
up for a good day’s walking. There is a special
menu each evening, which comprises a starter,
main course and dessert. The specials are
sometime items from the a la carte menu or
may be very traditional Turkish dishes that are
not offered on this menu. Typically these are
dishes that take too long to prepare to offer on
the a la carte menu. Each week there is a
barbeque night and a special fish night. You
can choose to have the specials or you can
choose to eat from the a la carte menu. If you
choose the a la carte menu you will be
allocated an allowance for each meal, which
will normally be enough for most meals
although you may incur extras if you choose
the most expensive items from the menu. On
the 6 days when you are walking a packed
lunch will be provided. If you do not walk for
any reason, you can still have a packed lunch.
Your accommodation is on a Flexible Half
Board basis. This includes Bed, Breakfast and
Evening Meals. One evening meal is normally
taken at a mountain fish farm & restaurant as
part of the walking programme. On one
additional night you can choose to eat out at
one of a number of the better restaurants in
Adrasan. Packed lunches are provided on
walking days. The bar is stocked with a good
choice of soft and alcoholic drinks and
cocktails. Tea and coffee is provided at no cost
in the rooms. A self service supply of tea and
coffee is always available (chargeable) in the
restaurant. Drinks, snacks and any extras such
as laundry if provided charged to your room.
You can review your bill periodically if you wish
and then settle up at the end of your stay.
Accommodation will be reserved for you on a
twin share basis unless you have already
requested a single room at extra cost.
Extra time in Adrasan at the Ottoman
Palace Hotel
Whether you just want to spend more time in
the beautiful Adrasan Bay area and explore by
yourselves, relax by the pool or on the beach,
or whether you want to do more walking or a
combination of both we have the options for
you.

rehydration salts, antiseptic cream, diarrhoea
treatment (e.g. Imodium).
Climate
It is of course impossible to predict the precise
weather conditions you will encounter during
the course of your holiday. However, we do
schedule our holidays to coincide with what
should be the most suitable weather periods
for walking. During the day it is often warm,
sometimes hot and sunny 15ºC-25ºC+. In July
and August it is far too hot for walking and
on no account should you travel during this
period. This region of Turkey enjoys one of the
best climates in the Mediterranean with around
300 days of sunshine a year. However, given
the proximity of the mountains to the sea, brief
storms and heavy rain can happen. Whilst it is
often possible to walk in June and September,
there are occasions when it can be
unseasonably hotter than the norm (especially
late June and early September) and certain
walks would not be advisable as a result.
Currency.
The Turkish currency is the Turkish Lira.
Please refer to www.xe.com for up to date
rates. There are no cash machines in Adrasan.
Money (cash) in GBP(£) and Euros can be
exchanged at the hotel and an advance of up
to 100tl can be included in your extras bill.
There are cash machines in Antalya airport
and on the transfers from and to the airport.
Local exchange rates are almost always
significantly better than those in the UK and
are certainly better than those in UK & Turkish
airports.
Language
In Turkey the language is true ‘standard’
Turkish. As the Turquoise Coast is popular
with tourists, English is quite widely spoken,
although not by everyone. We recommend you
take along a phrase book and also try to learn
some simple Turkish phrases and greetings.
The local people will of course especially
appreciate any attempt to speak the Turkish
language. Your hosts at the Ottoman Palace
speak perfect English, as they are English!
Other staff at the hotel speak very good
English too, but the locals you might meet
along your walks possibly/probably won’t.
You should always be prepared for inclement
weather conditions. For climate statistics visit
www.worldweather.org
Roughly speaking temperatures decrease by
approx. 1ºC for every 200 metre increase in
altitude.
Altitude
The altitudes on this trip are very modest
(Mount Olympos option excepted) and you
should not anticipate any problems.
Tipping
Tipping is optional in Turkey and is entirely at
your discretion. Tips at the hotel are optional
but again if service is good then a reasonable
tip is normal. Please include any tips with your
final extras bill so that your hosts can ensure
that all tips are equally shared amongst the
staff. A great waiter can only give good service
if the dish washer has done a good job with
washing the dishes and cutlery. The cleaner
and drivers are also included in the hotel tips.
Your hosts have requested that you do not
give tips to individuals at the hotel.
Local transport
Airport and trail transfers will be by private
vehicle, which may be shared with other hotel
guests.
Vaccinations and medical precautions
We always recommend visiting your doctor
and dentist for a check up before travelling.
Your doctor will also have access to the most
up to date information on vaccinations and
medical precautions for the country you are
about to visit. In general, no vaccinations are
necessary for Turkey. A useful travel health
online resource is www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk
Travel Insurance
It is a condition of booking any of our holidays
that you have comprehensive travel insurance.
It is your to responsibility to ensure you are
covered for medical and personal accident
risks for the part of the world you intend to
travel and the activities involved. This cover
should
include
repatriation
costs,
air
ambulance and helicopter rescue. It is also
advisable to take out cancellation insurance as
all deposits paid are non-refundable.
Please make sure that you obtain form
EHIC either online www.dh.gov.uk or from
your local post office – you will need to
produce this if you have to see a doctor.
First Aid
You should always carry your own small,
personal first aid kit. This should consist of the
following: A general anti-biotic, throat
lozenges, painkillers, plasters (band-aids),
blister treatment, insect repellent (DEET),

At least one set of casual / non-walking clothes will
be useful for wearing in your hotel on this holiday.
Whilst walking you must not worry about how you look: comfort and protection against bad weather
are of prime importance. Because weather is so very variable, we recommend a number of thin layers
rather than a few thick ones. The following list is our suggested guide to help you with your packing
based upon our many years of travelling/walking. Using your own judgment for packing is of course
important, especially with regard to casual clothing etc but please do not hesitate to contact us if you
have any questions about packing for your holiday, or are uncertain as to the suitability of your
clothing and equipment. Seasonal variations should also be taken into consideration when packing.
