Chamber’s TRDC Records Winning
Season
Co-chairs and leaders of the Chamber’s Total Resource
Development Campaign (TRDC) announced the
grand total on Aug. 12, wrapping up a banner year
for the annual campaign. Chamber volunteers raised
$3,020,850, surpassing the 2014 goal of $2.9 million by
$120,850.
“The Chamber is dedicated to furthering Oklahoma
City’s growth and development, and without our TRDC
volunteers, that work would not be possible,” said Judy
J. Hatfield, Equity Commercial Realty, LLC, Chamber
vice chair of membership and TRDC vice chair. “The
total raised during TRDC indicates that the business
community believes in the mission of the Chamber and The 2014 TRDC Co-Chairs John Higginbotham, Bank of
wants to see us continue on that path.”

A fresh start
Oklahoma City’s students and teachers got a fresh start
last month as they started back to school with a new
superintendent at the helm, Robert Neu. Those of you
who attended our State of the Schools luncheon had
the opportunity to hear Mr. Neu’s enthusiasm about
changing this district.
In the face of a change in administration, it is also a

inherent in any large urban school district. I strongly
believe that Mr. Neu is already bringing Oklahoma City Public Schools a much needed
momentum shift, but he cannot make changes alone. In order to build a brighter future
for Oklahoma City’s children, it will take a concentrated effort from families, teachers
and our community.
That is where you come in. As a member of the business community, you are
the primary consumer of our education system. You know what an important role
education plays in Oklahoma City’s future – and in the future of your company. Now
is the time to act on that belief and rally in support of our schools by supporting the
priorities and goals that the Oklahoma City Public Schools District and its school board
define.
Throughout our city’s history, we have seen time and time again that we are at our
best when we all have a common goal. The same goes for education reform. Successful
education systems are built on successful partnerships. Let’s take our city’s success to the
next level and improve our education system together. We are an incredible community
of collaborators, and I know if we utilize our assets, we will see even better results.

Volunteer Laure Majors, Frankfurt-Short-Bruza
Associates, was awarded the Top Producer award for the
2014 TRDC campaign. Majors has received the award
five consecutive years.
“Volunteers like Laure and companies like FrankfurtShort-Bruza Associates represent the dedication and
character of our TRDC participants,” Laird said. “The
Oklahoma City business community understands
that this campaign has a direct impact on the level
of community and economic development efforts
performed by the Chamber. The support the Chamber
provides for Oklahoma City would not be possible
without our TRDC volunteers.”
Oklahoma, and Michael Laird, Crowe & Dunlevy, led
more than 150 active volunteers. During the campaign,
volunteers connected local businesses with membership,
sponsorship and advertising opportunities that are
available through the Chamber. Through the work of
the volunteers, 168 local businesses became Chamber
members.
“We had high hopes for the 2014 Total Resource
Development Campaign and we are extremely excited
about the support showcased by our volunteers in
helping us surpass our expectations,” Higginbotham
said. “The level of engagement we saw among our
Chamber members serves as a reflection of the level of
trust and commitment the business community holds in
the mission of the Chamber.”
Barbara Anne DeBolt of GT Clean, Inc. received the
Ray Ackerman Award for the third time. The award is
given annually to the volunteer who recruits the most
new members during the campaign. The award is named
for Oklahoma City’s long-time business and community
advocate.
The sponsorships and advertising opportunities
offered during the campaign allow the Chamber to
produce quality events and publications for member
companies. Funds are also used to support the
Chamber’s work in economic development, government
relations, education and workforce development,
community development and more. Through the 21
annual campaigns, volunteers have generated more than
$40 million to support these efforts.
Higginbotham and Laird will co-chair the 2015
campaign, which will kick off its 22nd year in the spring.

so much so that Oklahoma City secured a multi-year

Businesses See Growth (from page 1)
This stability continues to signify the health of Oklahoma
City’s economy, and the quality of the workforce is also
a positive for Oklahoma City’s business environment.
Eighty-eight percent of employers stated that the quality
of Oklahoma City’s workforce is a positive business climate
factor. However, some employers in the science- and
technology-related industries expressed concern in the
quantity of employees available, an issue that is consistent
with national workforce trends.
The continued development of Oklahoma City’s
neighborhood districts were heralded as a positive draw
for recruiting out-of-state employees. Many owners
expressed that it is easier than ever to recruit talent from
other cities, partially due to the success of the Oklahoma
City Thunder and the MAPS initiatives. Despite this, 48
percent indicated that they are still having challenges to
recruit employees.
September 2014 Greater Oklahoma City Chamber The Point!
According to 71 percent of employees surveyed,
Oklahoma City’s public schools need continued
improvement to develop a broader pool of local,
12
qualified talent. Depending on the sector represented,
business owners would like to see more emphasis on
trade schools and STEM education programs. The top
federal issue that businesses expressed concern about
is the impact of the Affordable Care Act. Business
owners said that frequent changes, delays and the fear
of increased insurance expenses negatively impact doing
business.

the convention a success. There was only one stipulation
from the convention organizers: they wanted a fall fair so
their delegates could see the achievements of agriculture

Oklahoma residents pushed for an annual fair as
early as 1892, recognizing the impact that the fair could
have on the new territory. Convinced of the potential,
a coalition of business leaders gathered in the offices of
the Chamber on Jan. 18, 1907, to organize a state fair
association. After months of planning, the first State

Devoted to Lifelong Care
My OU Medicine primary care doctor knows me well — and that’s very important to me. We’ve developed a
relationship and we’re comfortable with each other, resulting in more openness and understanding. We’ve
built a real bond over the years, because she’s devoted to my lifelong care. I’m grateful because they’re helping
keep me and my family alive and well.
