The aviation Museum is located at Sainte-Marie ,
about 20 minutes from Quebec City. For a family,
couple, between friends, discover the history of the
first airmen in Quebec and this at the peril of their lives!
Anecdotes and legends are the appointments, without
forgetting our other exhibitions: Julie Payette, Chris
Hadfield and many others. On the same site, we have
the Museum of the Pere Gedeon which revives the
humorous personage camped by Doris Lussier to the
small screen.

The Centre d'interprétation du patrimoine religieux
presents a fascinating permanent exhibition on
religious heritage, featuring over 800 religious items
and vestments displayed in thematic modules in the
galleries of the St-Alphonse church. This architectural
masterpiece dating from 1907, the largest church in
the Quebec City diocese, is located in the heart of
downtown Thetford Mines. Come admire its lovely
decorations and all the splendours of a true heritage
jewel.

Grosse Île and the Irish Memorial National Historic Site
Interpretation site - History and society
Grosse-Île was the main Canadian quarantine station
from 1832 to 1937, a barrier against contagious
diseases thanks to its strategic location in the middle
of the St. Lawrence River. Over the years, tens of
thousands of immigrants were held here after crossing
the Atlantic. In 1847, the island was the scene of a
terrible tragedy as over 5,000 immigrants, mainly from
Ireland, died of typhus. A visit to Grosse-Île allows
you to follow in the footsteps of these immigrants and
discover the many facets of a quarantine station and
how it operated.

The last in a series of three detached forts, Fort no.1
was build by the British on the South shore of the StLawrence between 1865 and 1872, to protect the City
of Québec from an American Invasion following the
Civil War. Beautifully restored by Parks Canada, Fort
No.1 offers both guided and self guided tours where
you slowly walk through vaulted casemates, tunnels
and caponiers, powder magazine and shooting
gallery. At the top of the fort’s massive terrepleins,
you can see a rare Armstrong cannon and enjoy a
splendid view from the region. A multimedia exhibition
also reveals remarkable technological innovations for
the period.

Maison Alphonse-Desjardins
The cosy home of Alphonse and Dorimène Desjardins
hides a secret. Restored to look as it did in 1906,
this charming Gothic Revival house was built around
1883 for Alphonse Desjardins, founder of Quebec’s
caisses populaires, or credit unions. It was here that
Desjardins developed his great co-operative concept
and that the Lévis credit union started operating
in 1901. So this is the cradle of the credit union
movement in North America! After touring the house,
visit the permanent exhibition featuring an extensive
collection of photographs and artifacts recalling this
visionary’s great pioneering venture.

The J.-A. Vachon house, the family home of the
founders of Vachon cakes, is located in Sainte-Marie
de Beauce, less than 20 minutes from the Quebec
City bridges via Highway 73 South. Accompanied by
a guide, you’ll learn how a family of humble origins
prospered thanks to their dedication and ingenuity.
The house, a recognized historical monument, takes
you back to the days when Rose-Anna prepared her
"croquignoles" (goodies) on the wood stove. You can
see the first cookbook, the very one that was used to
record the original cupcake recipes. Learn how RoseAnna kept the accounts and what it cost at the time
to run their small business. The visit is completed
by a video on the history of Vachon cakes and the
factory manufacturing process. Not to mention that
each visitor also receives two cakes!

Located in Manoir Couillard-Dupuis, an ancestral
home built in the French style around 1800, the
museum features an impressive collection of rare
instruments along with photographs highlighting the
history of the accordion and accordion players.
The exhibitions reveal the fine craftsmanship of the
instrument makers who gave the accordion its diverse
forms and models in the decades since it was invented
in 1829. The only museum in North America devoted
to the accordion, the Musée de l’accordéon possesses
a varied collection of some 140 musical instruments
all based on the principle of the free reed. Enter
the fascinating world of the accordion, musicians and
craftspeople - a legendary tradition in the Montmagny

At the very site where the events of the novels Les
anciens Canadiens and Mémoires by Philippe Aubert
de Gaspé took place, the Corporation Philippe-Aubertde-Gaspé rebuilt the seigniorial manor in Saint-JeanPort-Joli and created the Musée de la mémoire vivante
(Museum of Living Memories).
The museum is dedicated to the intangible heritage
formed of life stories and other accounts. Its thematic
exhibitions introduce visitors to others’ stories and are
invited to record their own. Inspired by the author’s
work collecting his contemporaries’ life stories, the
museum’s goal is to record, safeguard and share
the different stories gathered, all from an ethnological
perspective.

The Musée maritime du Québec invites you to set sail
for adventure in the heart of “Mariner country.” The
museum is dedicated to studying and showcasing the
maritime heritage of the St. Lawrence all the way up
to the Great Lakes and the Arctic. It pays tribute to
the people of the River and honours the memory of
Captain Joseph-Elzéar Bernier (1852-1934), originally
of L’Islet, a tireless navigator and great Arctic explorer.
In addition to fascinating exhibitions, a collection of
traditional boats and a display of model ships, the
museum gives visitors the opportunity to climb aboard
two impressive ship museums in drydock, accessible

Hours
The Seigneurie des Aulnaies is the most complete
interpretation centre focusing on the seigneurial
regime in Quebec. The huge heritage property was
owned by Seigneur Juchereau starting in 1656. You
can explore its Victorian manor (1853) designed by
architect Charles Baillargé, and go on guided tours led
by staff in period costumes. They’ll be happy to show
you around the mill (1842), powered by the largest
bucket wheel in Québec, and explain how it works.
You can even buy organic stone-ground flour made
right here at the mill.
Around the pine grove and the pond, you can stroll
along more than 2 km of walking paths, with picnic
areas and lookouts over the peaceful Ferrée River.
The ornamental gardens, rose garden, tree stands
and fruit plantations have been recreated in keeping
with the wonderful gardening heritage of Saint-Rochdes-Aulnaies.
