Their reports periodically broadcast on Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Weekend Edition on WITF 89.5 & 93.3. You can also view in-depth reports from the team at NPR.ORG/CODESWITCH. When Barack Obama won the presidency in 2008, there was a lot of talk about "The Obama Effect": how the nation's first black president signaled a new era of racial harmony and understanding. That didn't happen. But what did? In this final year of the Obama era, NPR's Code Switch takes on "The Obama Effect"– what it is, where we see it, and whether it endures after this presidency ends. The series began earlier this year in February and continues through the year into the next presidential inauguration. Additional areas of focus includes where Latino Americans see themselves -- politically and culturally – after eight years of the Obama administration; how Obama's public image has challenged conventional wisdom about what it means to be a black man in America; how the way White Americans talk about and experience race is evolving, and more. The series aims to focus on the cultural discussions that aren't happening in traditional media, and to create content that focuses on starting conversations rather than offering conclusions.
