A Floral Tribute to
AIAF, 2010
An installation by Stephen Dixon
Flowers express
universal and
timeless beauty.
They are powerful
symbols of hope
and renewal.
Flowering is the
point for creative
collaboration
between artists,
environmentalists
and communities
working together
in Dhal ni Pol to
create temporary
public art works for
AIAF.
The Pol Project 2010 launches a three year
partnership with CEE, Arts Reverie and MIRIAD,
aimed at cleaning and greening of the physical
space and strategies for a sustainable environment
in the inner city areas.
The Pursuit of

present
Ahmedabad International Arts Festival
(AIAF) is planned as a city specific,
cutting edge arts initiative on the
lines of established international arts
festivals. AIAF launches with a series
of specially designed arts events to
be held over October 29, 30, 31 across several
partner venues in the city. This year’s events build
on universal ideas of togetherness using the broad
thematic of Beauty. The underlying impetus is a
desire for harmony and amity. On the occasion of
Ahmedabad 600, AIAF celebrates the city, its rich
vernacular architecture and its gracious cultural
legacies, through the making, evocation, pursuit and
celebration of Beauty.
AIAF is more than an event based celebration. It
is a coming together of hearts and minds, of ideas
and opinions. It is also the fertile ground for future
legacies and sustainable strategies for regeneration
and arts awareness.
For now, join us: Celebrate the city!
CELEBRATING THE ARTS
Using Filare, Navigate and Chai Patterns,
(Filare, Latin – ‘to spin, draw out in a long line’)
the artists will investigate the social aesthetics
of the Pol. Filare will use video and other visual
means to trace the ways in which the Pol acts
as a reservoir of shared cultural knowledge and
memory. Navigate will examine the decorative
and cultural role of flowers in everyday life and
ritual. Hundreds of ceramic flowers, shipped
to Ahmedabad from Stoke-on-Trent, will be a
starting point to create temporary public artworks
which will map, define and identify the social and
economic infrastructure of the Pol. Chai Patterns
will examine the ubiquity of tea drinking as a
communal social event.
