Editorial.
Happy New Year and welcome
to 2016. At this time of year,
people often reflect on what has
happened during the past 12
months, but it is also a time to
look forward to the coming year.
In the UK we are spoilt for
choice with motoring and
motorsport events all around the
country and new events are
springing up all over the place.
This year we have new events in
Bromyard, Speed Festival April
3rd and in Buckinghamshire,
Cars in the Claydons, (see page
7) on 3rd September, plus
Coventry Motofest and Chateau
Impney Hillclimb which are
bringing events closer to the
people. But don’t forget our
existing venues, Silverstone,
Donington Park, Oulton park,
Brands Hatch, Goodwood,
Shelsley Walsh, Prescott, Loton
park plus many others that are
all continuing to stage the best
motor sport events in the World
and need our continued support.
Lets make 2016 our best year
yet for motorsport and motoring
in the UK, and we will try to bring
you the best coverage we can of
these events over the next
twelve months.
La Vie en bleu incorporating
La Vita Rossa.
News
The annual French celebration held
at Prescott by the Bugatti Owners Club has added an Italian
flavour for 2016. La Vie en Bleu incorporating La Vita Rosso
now becomes a celebration of French and Italian cars,
music and entertainment over the weekend of the 28th and
29th May 2016. Now in its 10th year, La Vie en Bleu has
always been a firm favourite with the fans, with part of
Gloucestershire becoming part of France for two days, with Can Can dancers, onion sellers and
Gendarmes wandering around the paddock area. This year will add an Italian flavour to the
proceedings, with fine Italian cars adding to the French car displays and special competition
classes in the hill climb event for French and Italian cars. The event has managed to attract
supercars like the Bugatti Veyron for years and already confirmed for 2016 to go with the Bugatti
Veyron Supersports and Bugatti Pur Sang are a Ferrari Enzo
and a Ferrari 275 GTB. Nelson Piquet’s 1990 Benetton F1
car should also be on display.
On the entertainment side, the usual Can Can dancers will be
replaced by Flappers doing Charleston routines to French
inspired Electro Swing songs and will have competition from
Opera - Oyster Opera will perform in the paddock, possibly a
first for a motor racing event? Tickets will be on sale in
January at a special ‘Buy one get one free’ for a limited time
only. See www.prescott-hillclimb.com for more information.
HRCR Open Day.
The Historic Rally Car Register (HRCR) Open day is on 16th January 2016 at the British Motor
Museum (Formerly known as the Heritage Motor Centre) Gaydon. The event will look back 50
years at the controversy created by the Mini on the 1966 Monte Carlo Rally. The open day will also
celebrate the Minis continued success and popularity in historic rallying. The Open day is very
much a social gathering where visitors can see a few cars and meet Rallying event organisers. The
Open day is free and runs from 10am to 4pm. Please note that the museum itself is currently
closed for refurbishment and this event is run in the function rooms only. for more information

Public Debut for
Zenos E10 R.
A New Year brings new motoring anniversaries to celebrate at the
Silverstone Classic. In 2016 there will be track parades for
Lamborghini to celebrate 50 years of the Miura supercar as well
as 100 years since the birth of company founder Feruccio
Lamborghini, Viper and Westfield, while BMW car club UK will
celebrate the centenary of Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW)
manufacturing company opening in 1916. The Morgan Sports Car
Club will celebrate 80 years of the 4/4/ model. Two other British
icons are also turning 50 this year with the Lotus Europa and the
Triumph GT6 and also the 2 litre Triumph Vitesse. For more info

Racing Car Show,
will host the World

develop 350 bhp and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in around
3 seconds. The car has uprated brakes and fully adjustable
suspension and a new set of light weight wheels, which have
saved over 10 kg in weight compared to the E10S. Prices start
from £39,995

Shelsley Walsh Breakfast meetings 2016.
These are social gatherings for car enthusiasts to bring along their
special vehicle to show others. Vehicles are parked in the historic
paddock and often on the lower parts of the hill climb course. These
meetings are very popular and Shelsley do ask that you register your
attendance in advance via their web site at www.shelsleywalsh.co.uk so they have some idea of numbers. There is also the
chance to walk up the historic hill climb course. Breakfast Club runs
from 9 am to 12 noon.
The first one of the year is St Valentine’s day, so bring the other half
for a romantic ride out in to the glorious Worcestershire countryside,
and let them enjoy the friendly atmosphere and take a trip down
memory lane with you, as you explore the classic and vintage
vehicles on display in these historic settings.

September 18th 2016. Ford Fest is now in it’s second year
and plans to expand on last years success, when over
1,700 club cars were on display.
This years event will focus on both classic and modern
Fords. As well as static displays, the event will also operate
the drag strip on a Ford themed ‘Run what Ya Brung’ where
visitors can pay to have 4 runs up the quarter mile Drag
Strip in their Ford vehicle. The Drag Strip will also be used
during the day to host Fireforce 3, Santa Pod’s very own Jet
car capable of over 300 miles per hour and a sub six
second quarter mile.
Ford Fest is just one of a family of Shows to celebrate Ford,
the other events being the International Ford Show at
Sandown Park between April 30th and 1st May and Ford
Fair which takes place at Silverstone on August 7th.

This new event has started with a
blank sheet of paper, and in the first
year will be a static display of
historic, vintage, classic and racing
cars and motorcycles. An
interesting concept is a Competition

which will include a special Formula

As the year drew to a close, the Vintage Sports Car Club
(VSCC) held their final competition event of the year with the
Winter Driving Tests, at
Bicester Heritage, in the
heart of England. A
former World War two
airfield, the heritage site is
being restored, with many
of the former buildings
converted in to workshops
which are now occupied
by Vintage and Classic

companies. The airfield is
still used by light aircraft

year, one of the
tests had the drivers enter an empty hanger through partially
opened hanger doors, drive round a cone inside and then back
out through the same partially opened hanger doors. The tests
are similar to an autotest, where the drivers abilities are tested
for steering, braking and manoeuvrability, with ‘garages’
marked out by cones where the car has to stop, sections which
required reversing, and a specified route which had to be
followed exactly.
There were a total of
ten tests, with an
additional hazard
this year of very
strong gusts of wind,
though at least the
day remained dry if
somewhat dull. The
large entry was split
in to three main
classes plus an

1973 MGB GT V8 Sold for £14,560
H&H Auction sale, Chateau Impney.
9th December 2015. By Simon Wright.
The annual winter auction at Chateau Impney drew together a large
collection of classic and exotic cars for the H&H sale, with two large
halls and an external car park full of interesting vehicles. There were
no particular ‘Barn finds’ this year, though a 1975 Chevrolet Corvette
Stingray with some rear bumper damage, was in need of restoration
and sold for £3,584. The oldest car in the sale was a 1931 maroon
coloured 747cc Austin 7 Saloon with a claimed 49,568 miles from
new, and only two owners. Unfortunately the car did not sell. There
was also a 1933 Austin Seven Single seater replica in the sale. Built in
the 1970s and recently restored, the aluminium body is based on
blueprints for ‘Number 10’, one of two Austin 7 Twin-cams in the
Donington Collection. This car fitted with a 750cc engine, has raced in
750 Motor Club events. The car has been modified with various more

car that did sell was a 1933 Lagonda 3/4.5 litre Tourer, which
sold for £87,360. The car had belonged to the late jazz musician
Jim Shelley. The newest car was a 2004 Mercedes Benz SLK
Kompressor convertible that sold for just £9,520.
Another unusual car in the auction was a 1971 NSU 1000 C,
which is one of only 16 known to the DVLA. This model has a

the car a similar

Not all of the vehicles had

couple of bubble cars
located in the entrance to
the Regent centre, where
the auction was taking
place. The 1961 BMW

mass produced car to achieve a fuel consumption of 94 mpg.
Isetta was originally an Italian car, but BMW made the design
their own by redesigning the powerplant round the BMW one
cylinder, four stroke, 247cc motorcycle engine which produced
13 hp. The redesign was so complete that none of the parts of

1985 Porsche 911 Turbo Targa by bb.
This is one of only two amazing Porsche 911 Turbos
reconfigured by German car designer Rainer Buchmann’s
Frankfurt based company bb to this specification at a cost of
DM250,000 and this car was exhibited at the 1986 Geneva
Motor Show. The car was remodelled in steel and features
Porsche 930 running gear including the 3.3 litre flat 6 engine
and four speed manual transmission. It has a bespoke digital
dashboard, upholstery and
Blaupunkt stereo system.
This was one of the last cars
modified by bb. The Targa
conversion was based on a
930 coupe shell, strengthened
as required with steel. The car
has only completed around
10,921 miles since new, having
been stored several times over
the years. Sold for £42,560

69 RHD examples made and retains the original upholstery. It
has had a recent engine overhaul. The 3.8S has a has a quoted
265 bhp thanks to triple SU carbs. It had a quoted top speed of
141 mph and a 0-60 mph time of just 7.6 seconds, which made
it an equal match with rivals Ferrari, Maserati and Aston Martin.
The car featured a separate chassis and was the first to be
available with four wheel disk brakes
The most expensive car sold was on the stage behind the
auctioneer. The 1936 Bentley 4.25 litre Gurney Nutting Pillarless
Coupe sold for £210,600. The car is believed to be one of just
eleven built with this Curvilinear body style. First registered for

The cheapest car to sell at the auction was also probably the
largest, a 1987 Ford Dorchester Mk VII Limousine which sold
for £665. It was originally based on a Ford Granada which had
been professionally converted by Coleman Milne. It has been
used as a wedding car for the past fourteen years. It is powered
by the Ford 3 litre V6 engine fitted with an automatic gearbox.
The stretched body has an additional row of seats allowing
seating for six passengers.
The most expensive sports car car sold at the sale was the
1960 Jaguar XK150 S 3.8 litre Drophead Coupe in British racing
green, which went for £168,000. This rare car was one of just

the road in 1937, a full history including registration documents
are available with this car, covering 1937 to 1973. The car has
not been restored and is in original condition and good order, but
has been mechanically services as required. The car has been
shown in recent years at some of the Worlds greatest
preservation shows such as the Louise Vutton Classic at SaintCloud in Paris, the Hurlingham Club in London and the Chantilly

At the Classic Motor Show last November, Richard
Attwood and Ian Wagstaff were present to sign copies of
Ian's book on Porsche 917 chassis 023. This was the car
that won the 1970 Le Mans 24 Hours driven by Richard
Attwood and Hans Herrmann. The cars first appearance
was in that years BOAC 1000ks at Brands Hatch. It was
driven on that occasion to second place by Vic Elford and
Denny Hulme. Still in its plain white colour (rather than
the red and white colour
scheme used at Le
Mans) it is seen here
leading the other
Porsche Salzurg 917
(chassis 020) of
Attwood and Herrmann
(who would take over
the car for Le Mans)
which finished third in
this race.

All American line-up Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS and a couple of American pick up trucks
The unusually mild weather for the time of year brought out a
good sized crowd for the annual Boxing day car meeting, at its
now regular home of the Stratford Armouries museum. The free
meeting usually attracts a good mix of vehicles and this years
event was no exception. One of the high lights for the organiser
was when three military trucks arrived, which was fitting for a
military
museum. There
was also a
strong
contingent of

cars and trucks

condition. The saloons included a Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu in
a blue and white ‘Shelby’ style paint job and a Chevrolet
Impala station wagon.
There were several custom cars and hot rods parked up. One
of the most interesting was what appeared to be a black
Humber Imperial which in turn was based on the Super Snipe
design, but it was

underneath, with

panels fitted on the

plus Ford Escort back axle. A late arrival was a Ford Model A
hotrod.
Several pre-war cars were on display including a 1937 885cc
Morris 8, the model which helped Morris regain its position as
Britains largest motor manufacturer. A 1927 Lea Francis P Type
Saloon looked stately in its two tone blue and black bodywork.
Originally built in nearby Coventry, the P Type Saloon was
actually the Lea Francis model 12 which was built between 1927
and 1935 during which a total of 1700 ran off the production line.
It was powered by a 1496cc Meadows 4ED straight 4 engine
Austin 10 and Ford Popular custom cars
had even included reskinning the door shells to match the
Humber appearance. Amoung the hotrods there was a blue
1955 Ford Popular hodrod fitted with a 7.5 litre engine which
was immaculately presented, and a 1932 Ford Model A pickup
truck which was powered by a 3.6 litre Eddie Meyer V8 engine.

which produced 38 bhp in single carb configuration and 52 bhp
in twin carb set up. The actual P Type is thought to have run to
1093 assembled cars of which it is thought that as many as 97
have survived to now.

An unusual 1930 Hotchkiss
AM2 13CV Monaco saloon
was originally built at
Hotchkiss et Cie in SaintDenis, Paris, France.
Powered by a 2412cc
straight 4 engine which
produced around 48 bhp. It
had rod operated brakes.
The company badge on the
radiator grill consists of a
pair of crossed canons,
which refer to the
companies arms
manufacturing history. For a
short time, they had a
factory in Coventry,
England, but this was sold
to Morris when car
production returned to
Hotchkiss badge and French cockerel
France.
Post war cars included a 1950 Riley RMA saloon complete with
split windscreen.
The Riley was
powered by a
straight 4 1.5 litre
engine which
produced around 60
bhp. It was the first
Riley model
produced after the
war. Between 1945
and 1952 over
10,500 were built.

lot of that period Vauxhall models suffered terribly from corrosion
and not many have survived. The Victor was powered by a

a 3 speed manual gearbox.

1929 Rolls Royce 20 25
January 2016
There were a few
vintage cars that
turned up including a
rather splendid 1929
Rolls Royce 20 25
which went to H J
Mulliner coach
builders for SemiWayman Four Light
bodywork to be fitted.
The car was first
registered in London in
1930 to the Lilley
family of Lilley &
Skinner shoes. Mrs
Lilley drove it for nine
years before trading it
in to Jack Barclay of
Berkley Square in
London for another
Rolls Royce. It has
had a further eight
owners to date,
including spending 28
years in America
between 1961 and
1989 where it
underwent a full
restoration. The
present owner,
Richard Cottrill from
Worcestershire
purchased the car in
2012 after it had been
off the road for 6 years
