This screw head offers superior friction fit and axial guidance compared to other available screw heads. • The only one-step locking screw with a locking capability up to 10˚ of angulation for the Mid-Face and Mandible locking plates. • SMARTLock Locking Screws are manufactured with fine threads on the underside of the screw head, which upon insertion engage the circular “lip” within the hole. • The SMARTLock Locking Screw Technology in mid-face and mandible applications not only provides a more stable plate-screw construct, but also decreases the possibility of infections or implant failure caused when screws loosen. The Stryker Leibinger Graduated Stability Plates offer the progressive level of fixation required as the LeFort I advancement increases. This built-in progressive stability is a unique feature for optimal Lefort I fixation. • The shorter plates used for limited LeFort I advancements are more malleable for ease of use. • The longer plates used for extensive LeFort I advancements provide the increased level of rigidity required for stable fixation. Procedural Guide Applications • Repair of craniotomy burr holes • Repair of contiguous craniotomy cuts • Repair of cranial defects Applications Step 1- Expose the fracture. • Precise cutting and coagulation during electrosurgery Step 2- Use benders to contour Locking Plates. Benders include plate pockets with hole-pegs to reduce hole deformation. Step 3- Cut plate with right handle (R) in area labeled “CUT.” Slide the plate into the cutting area. Cut will take place within the window. Step 4- Insert drill guide into drill guide handle and drill hole. *Drill guides must be used when drilling holes intended to be used with locking screws. Step 5- Only insert first screw about 75% of the way, then drill the hole for the second screw and insert second screw 100% until locked into the plate. Finish the first screw then proceed accordingly with the other screws. Step 6- Fracture fixation is complete. Step 5- Steps 3 and 4 are skipped by using a self-drilling tap. Set depth stop at appropriate depth and use self-drilling tap attached to the tap handle. Make sure that the hole-depth is equal to (or longer) than the length of screw to be used. Step 6- Insert screws with the torque-limiting feature in the “ON” position on the screwdriver handle. Step 7- Fracture fixation is complete. Step 4- Insert the drill guide through trocar and drill hole. Step 5- Measure desired screw length using a depth gauge. Step 6- Insert screw and repeat process for each screw until fracture fixation is complete. Three different cutting cylinders are available depending on the size of bone chips needed. Contour & Application: Mid-Face Locking Plate Step 1- Expose the fracture and select the appropriate template. Create the necessary contour on the template. Step 2- Using the forceps, hold appropriate plate to template and submerge in sterile water bath. After 15 seconds, remove and contour to the template and let cool in room temperature. For additional “in situ” contouring, use contouring pens. Step 3- Drill holes. Step 4- Tap the hole using the bone tap. Be sure to set appropriate depth on the tap’s depth stop.
