Our Bird Bay Annual dance is almost upon us. Our featured
band, Soul-R-Coaster is back again by popular demand. The music
is lively and guaranteed to get everyone up on their feet. Music
ranges from Pop to the classics so there is something for everyone.
Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased by contacting

for parties of 8-10 and we welcome all singles. This is a great opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones. Space is limited

Snacks, ice, dessert and coffee will be included and you are
encouraged to bring food and drink of your choice as you’re sure
to work up an appetite. We continue our tradition of door prizes

Bird Bay Village is a
Pet Friendly Community
Dog lovers are very fortunate to live in a pet friendly community
like Bird Bay. We have a vast area to walk your dogs. You and
your pet can walk on all streets and drive-ways of the community. The gardens and ponds, pools and Community Buildings are
OFF LIMITS for dogs. Let’s please remember to respect our neighbors and our green
spaces. Our community has invested much time and money into
revitalizing our gardens and landscape. Please, do not curb your
dogs on mailboxes, trees, shrubbery, gardens or buildings. There
are plenty of open grassy areas to curb our dog’s.
All pet waste needs to be picked-up and disposed of in the
garbage. See the Rules and Regulations for all pet rules.
For the safety of our neighbors and our 4-legged pets always walk them on a leash. No off-leash dogs. Dog owners let’s keep our community beautiful and then our
pet’s will always be welcome here!!!
Notice to all Bird Bay Village Owners
As of July 1, 2013, “Florida’s Condominium and Homeowners
Law” was amended to allow a condominium association to print
and distribute a social directory containing the name, address, and
telephone number of each owner. (See the insert in this month’s
bulletin to opt out.)
The Bird Bay Village Bulletin
The Bulletin will now be posted on the website so look for it
on the Community News page. Back issues will be posted on the
Documents Page in the Resident Library section. Paper copies
of the Bulletin are always available in the Library, Clubhouse and
Leisure Office in the Cardinal Building.
Walkers
Remember you share the road-ways with autos. For
your safety, always walk facing on coming traffic. Use a flashlight
after dark. Those behind the wheel will thank you!
Bikers
We are so fortunate at Bird Bay to have the Legacy Trail
close by and to have easy bicycling around town! For
safety - Always ride WITH the car traffic and give a hand signal
if stopping or turning left or right. You will be facing the walkers
in the lanes around Bird Bay, but that is OK. Just move out of the
lane for a few seconds to avoid a collision. Enjoy this great form
of exercise!

Recycle, Reuse, Renew
Let’s face it recycling can be a frustrating task. When
you have come from all over the US, maybe Canada
or even Europe to live in, or visit Venice, learning the task of a
community’s recycle program can be mind boggling. And probably the last thing you want to take time for when you may be
here for just a few short months. The b-i-g tip is that Venice has
the capability to recycle very few products. The list is short. So
check out Bird Bay Village HOW-TO Guide for Recycle & Trash
Collection, you’ll be up to speed in no time. The Earth thanks
you. (Compliments, find your copy in the Bird Bay Library or log
on to www.birdbayofvenice.com and download a copy.)
Tip of the Month:
If your dumpster is equipped with a raccoon bar, please
use it!!! Raccoons hanging-out at the dumpsters has become
a problem. The bars are to be kept in the UP position at all
times. Thank you!!

Turkey Soup Challenge
Our turkey soup challenge contest was a big success. First
place was Lydia Mussulman with her turkey vegetable soup. She
received the Golden Ladle award and the “super souper” apron.
Second place winner was Jack Jacques for his turkey chowder. Robby and Penny tied for third – Robby’s entry was turkey tortilla
soup and Penny Thacker made turkey barley soup. Honorable
mention went to Tom Fear for his turkey chili and Dorothy Mohr
for her turkey wild rice chowder.
Doug Maxwell headed up the team of judges. It was a fun event
and the net proceeds went to a worthy cause, the Salvation Army
Food Pantry, for which we received a very nice thank you letter.
Monthly Events

very popular event with the golfers. There is a tee package, trophies for the winning team and a buffet banquet.

ACTIVITIES NEWS
Knitters Group
This will be the eighteenth winter that our industrious but
relaxed group of knitters has been creating useful items. Last
spring we contributed six afghans, along with several lap robes
and shawls to local charities. We’ve already donated several baby
blankets and shawls in time for this Christmas.
You will find us each Tuesday morning around 10 AM on the
Clubhouse Patio overlooking the pool and while we knit we share
ideas. We can supply the yarn (leftovers donated by residents),
easy patterns and we can probably lend you a pair of needles if
you can’t find yours. We might even be able to teach you how to
knit! Give us a call if you’d like to be part of our group or if you
have yarn that you would like to donate, or just show up on the
patio on Tuesday mornings. Contact: Andrea 485-6328, Audrey
488-6764, Fran 485-9950.
Lap Swim
Twice daily in the Community Pool time is set aside for those
who would like to do lap swimming. The morning hours are from
8 – 10 am the evening hours during the winter months are from 5
to 6 pm. Check the calendar for any time changes. (3/9/14 begin
6-7 pm)
Line Dancing
Kathleen Halliday, one of our many new residents, has offered
to teach line dancing. She will use a variety of music—some old,
some country, etc. All are welcome even if you don’t think you’re
a dancer!! It’s a great way to have fun while exercising.
Please meet Kathleen in the Clubhouse at 4:30 pm on Mondays
and 4:00 pm Wednesdays. Contact: 410-507-1149.
Mah Jongg
Mah Jongg has been played in Bird Bay for many years and I,
myself, was taught be a resident some fourteen years ago. It is
very rewarding to be able to continue her efforts and pass on to
others the pleasure of “The Sparrow” (one of the interpretations
of the words Mah Jongg). Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. is the
learning/play time in the Clubhouse and I welcome those who
are interested in broadening their repertoire.
Experienced players meet in the multi-purpose room on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Contact Lucy Abbott.
I welcome all those who are interested in the pleasure and
benefits of this great game. It’s not too old to be taught.

Bird Bay Leisure
Laurel Villas & Sea Grape Villas
It was a cold and windy day on January 16th. But, that didn’t
stop the brave Villas souls determined to enjoy the sunset and
friendly conversations at last month’s Villas Gathering. During
the several years of these gatherings we have almost always had
beautiful warm weather to enjoy. In fact, usually most afternoons
are so warm that folks move their chairs to keep in the shade
until the hot sun finally begins to set. But, this time it became a
slow-moving race with chairs to try and keep in the warmth of the
sun --- so much so that the group eventually found that it had
moved all the way from the lawn by the pond out to the driveway
in the street. But, in spite of the need for a few extra layers of
clothing, we had a great turnout and everyone seemed to have a
wonderful time. Once again, the food that everyone brought to
pass around was fantastic. The success of these gatherings isn’t
determined by the weather. It’s determined by the wonderful
spirit of villas neighbors who simply enjoy each other’s company
and love our paradise here in Bird Bay.
