MCVSD CAREER ACADEMY ADMISSION PROCEDURES Joseph Senerchia Director of Pupil Personnel Services Admission Procedures Student must attend information session with parent/guardian You may only apply to one school Complete the online application. Information to access the application will only be given at the mandatory information session The codes are non-transferrable and if used by someone other than the applicant, the applications of all parties will be rejected. Student will need school counselor/principal email address School transcript and counselor/principal form online Application Deadline is December 7, 2012. Late applications will not be accepted Take the admissions exam on January 19, 2013 at the school you applied to. Picture ID is required. Acceptance Criteria Applicants will be ranked according to the following scoring: Criteria Maximum Rating Grade Point Average 7th Grade (Final Avg.) 8th Grade (1st Quarter Avg.) 15 15 District Admission Exam Math Language Arts 35 35 Total Possible 100 Minimum Score to Qualify for Admission 75 The exam is aligned with NJ ASK 8 and Core Curriculum Content Standards Scale used to determine GPA Classes used on the scale are: English /Language Arts; Math; Social Studies; Science Number Grade 99-98 97-94 93-92 91-90 89-86 85-84 83-82 81-78 77-76 75-74 73-72 71-70 Letter Grade A+ A AB+ B BC+ C CD+ D D- Rating 15 14 13 12 11 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 Official Transcript must accompany this application SUBJECT English/Language Arts Mathematics Social Studies Science AVERAGE 92 86 91 95 91 GRADE 7 GRADE 8 (Final Grades) Number/letter grade (First Marking Period) Number/letter grade 13 11 12 14 12.50 14 96 97 14 15 98 14 97 97 14.25 The Student must also write an essay describing why he/ she wants to attend the Academy. This is not part of the criteria. First Round Offers of Admission The highest scoring qualified applicant from each district pool will be offered admission. Qualified applicants are those who meet the minimum standards as outlined in 1b(1) of this policy. • District pool is the resident public school (excluding regional high school districts) that an applicant resides in at the time of application. Subsequent Rounds The entire applicant pool will be reconsidered if space permits. Total rank will be given priority over a student’s resident district. In most years we over enroll in anticipation of some attrition. If an opening occurs, the entire applicant list will be reviewed for a replacement.
