The BMW Store
The BMW Store, a successful
BMW dealership, needed to
update their website to reflect a
new outdoor and in-store
advertising campaign. As well, the
site would promote test drive
registration and convey the energy
of the BMW experience.
The solution architecture stressed
clear navigation, flexible areas for
events and promotions, and a
dynamic content management
system to edit pages and enter
cars into the inventory listings.

Sampling Quiz
P&G Marketing needed a learning
module to train marketers about
effective product sampling
campaigns.
The solution was a simple yet
engaging quiz format. Questions
and answers were used to
illustrate concepts and short
unexpected animations held the
attention of the user.

Sampling Quiz
Quiz questions were multiple
choice and often addressed
misconceptions about sampling.

Sampling Quiz
The correct answer provides
detailed explanation of the
sampling concept. The user is
rewarded with a link to the next
question - we were rewarded with
feedback that this was the most
compelling module they had seen.

eDesign
The P&G team for eDesign
approached us for help on
interface terminology for a
complex software product. We
made some recommendations but
also sold them on a user centered
design process.
We went on to provide a
prototype interface that would be
incorporated into future interface
development cycles.

User interviews were used to
assess priorities and requirements.
Also, users provided feedback on
early versions of the prototype.

Our solution had a major impact
on the direction of the software
interface. One user was quoted as
saying “Now I have hope.”

Earthworks
Earthworks is a multimedia
exploration of the ancient earth
mounds found at various sites
throughout the Ohio River Valley.
The project consists of video
scenes and 3D animations that tell
the story of these places and the
people that built them.

Earthworks
The interface needed to be
adapted for a touch screen in a
museum kiosk. The overall project
scope was adapted for museum
use and menus and navigation
were rebuilt and tested on the
touch screens.

Earthworks
The interactive timeline was also
updated to work with the touch
screen. Scrolling controls were
redesigned and hotspots were
made larger throughout the piece.

Earthworks
Video scenes for Earthworks are
approximately one minute in
duration. There are several
hundred scenes amounting to
hours of content. The scenes are
scripted by historians and then
designers help tell the story with
slow moving imagery, artifacts,
maps, video and 3D models.
These frames are from a scene
about flint, a material found in the
Ohio Valley and commonly used
by the native people that lived
there.

Clickitykids
Clickitykids is a wonderful
interactive software for preschools.
Each week, children experience a
new module, based on a weekly
calendar.
Modules are developmentally
appropriate, and many are
structured as learning games. The
modules help children learn basic
shape, color and number concepts
while also teaching basic mouse
skills such as point, click, and click
to grab then click to drop.

Another popular module was the
International Space Station and
space shuttle. Clicking the mouse
would progress the space shuttle
on its journey from Earth to the
space station and then home
again.

Cincinnati Parks
As a Masters thesis project, I
worked with the Cincinnati Parks
to define a web based Park Finder
to help potential visitors identify
activities and events throughout
the park system.
Created in Flash, the interactive
map was the centerpiece that
allowed users to see parks that fit
their interests or were near their
location.

The second part of the Masters
project was a Park Guide. This
handheld application could be
downloaded from the Park
Website to a PDA and used to
learn about the natural features of
the park.
The concept tested well with park
staff and select visitors, however,
the idea was never implemented
due to lack of funding for park
education.
