Linda Baer is back! And one wonders how we could be so lucky as to have Linda and Mel return for a
second tour of Colorado Springs. We like to think it is permanent but regardless we are going to enjoy
every minute and take full advantage of Linda’s knitting knowledge for, as usual, she is all about sharing
her love of knitting with everyone she meets..
Born in Altoona, PA, Linda attended the Eastman School of Music, the Hochschule fur Musik in
Cologne, Germany and Indiana University. After graduation she joined the faculty of IU as Soprano
in Residence and Asst. Professor of voice. Opera and modern music are her specialties. She has sung
more than 30 opera leading roles, and has worked with many composers including Lukas Foss, Igor
Stravinsky, Billy Taylor, David Baker and John Eaton. She won a Peabody Award for her role in
Myschkin by John Easton. In l981 Mel was hired by the Dallas Texas Symphony were he performed
for 24 years. Linda taught at Southern Methodist University until 1994 when she retired as head of
voice and opera departments.
Linda’s second love is yarn and needlepoint. She was a traveling sales rep for many yarn companies,
including Rowan, Classic Elite, Skacel, Stacy Charles, and Trendsetter to name a few. She assisted
Kaffe Fassett with two workshops and has taught at numerous shops and conventions. She also worked
with the top Needlepoint designers representing Peter Ashe, Tapestry Tent, Joan Thomassen, Fancy
Carol, Ehrman, Boots Bailey and more. As a third career she became a travel consultant and led five
groups to Ireland, and traveled extensively in Europe, Egypt, Russia and Greece.
You can see why we are so pleased that Linda has landed here and is returning to teach again at
Needleworks. She is choosing a knitting project each month that represents her love of classic patterns
from designers around the world. Jump aboard! You will love the ride! See the class for the details.
