„Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness!
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eaves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core.” (John Keats)
“Die Blätter fallen, fallen wie von weit,
als welkten in den Himmeln ferne Gärten;
unendlich sanft in seinen Händen hält.”
(Rainer Maria Rilke)

The sea is a full of mystery. Let me introduce you to some beautiful and special animals!
Whales
They have a big body. Their body length can be 1,2-30 m, their weight can change
between 30 and 180 thousand kg. The blue whale is the biggest animal. They are
mammals, so they have lungs and they breathe air. They are warm-blooded
animals.
Octopuses
They have 8 long hands, their length is maximum 3 meters. They weigh 25
kilograms. They orient very well, experts say that they are intelligent animals.
They eat crayfishes and shells. They live lonely and their lifetime is just a year.
Sharks
They breathe with gill. Their body is longish and aerodynamic. Their tails are very
big and asymmetric. Their teeth break easily. Sharks cannot chew with their
teeth they just take their food with them. Their nose is very sensitive, they can
feel blood in the water. Their livers can be the quarter of their whole body.
Jellyfish
The smaller jellyfish eat planktons, the bigger ones eat small crayfish. Some
jellyfish are active hunters. They belong to the simplest animals.
Seahorses
Seahorses can be brown or yellow, but they can have a stained colour, too. The
biggest seahorse is 35 centimeters. The smallest seahorse lives in the Pacific
Ocean. It is 16 millimeters long, but there are seahorses as small as 13 mm as
well.
Dolphins
There are 50 kinds of dolphins. Dolphins eat fish. They live in groups called
schools. A school has 40 members and they know each other very well, and they
hunt together. Dolphins are social animals, they play with humans with pleasure,
so they are the most popular animals. But they are predators, and they can be
aggressive with each other and they can also kill each other. Dolphins hardly ever
hurt humans. They are as smart as the chimpanzees or humans. They give birth
to a baby once a year. The dolphin babies are born under the water.
1 0 Facts about Halloween
(by Rebeka Csalló 11.g)
Halloween is the spookiest night of the year in the USA where some people say spirits can wander on the Earth freely,
and others say their children can wander to the neighbourhood unattended, trick-or-treating or causing havoc.
1.
Dressing up on Halloween comes from the Celts.
2.
The first Jack O’Lanterns were actually made from turnips.
Celts believed Samhain was a time when the wall between our world and the paranormal world was porous and spirits
could get through. Because of this belief, it was common for the Celts to wear costumes and masks during the festival
to frighten any evil spirits.
3.
The name "Halloween" comes from the Catholics.
Hallowmas is a three-day Catholic holiday where saints are honoured and people pray for the recently died. At the start
of the 11th century, it was ordered by the pope that it would last from 31st Oct. (All Hallow's Eve) until 2nd Nov., most
likely because that was when Samhain was celebrated and the church was trying to convert the pagans.
4.
5.
Samhainophobia is the fear of Halloween.
Halloween symbols aren't random.
Black cats, spiders, and bats are all Halloween symbols because of their spooky history. All three were thought to be
the familiars of witches in the middle ages, and are often associated with bad luck.
6.
The owl is a popular Halloween image.
7.
A full moon on Halloween is extremely rare.
In Medieval Europe, owls were thought to be witches, and to hear an owl's call meant someone was about to die.
Although it is common in horror movies and Halloween decorations with witches flying across the full moon, the next
full moon on Halloween won't occur until 2020.The most recent Halloween full moon was back in 2001, and before that
it was in 1955.
8.
The largest pumpkin ever measured was grown by Norm Craven, who broke the world
record in 1993 with a 836 lb. pumpkin.
9.
Halloween is the second-most commercial American holiday of the year.
The candy industry in America booms in an average of $2 billion annually thanks to Halloween (that's 90 million pounds
of chocolate) .Americans spend an estimated $6 billion on Halloween annually, including candy, costumes, and
decorations, according to History.com. (The most commercial holiday in the U.S. is obviously Christmas.)
10.
Ireland is typically believed to be the birthplace of Halloween.
Thanksgiving
(by Bence Holjencsik 10.a)
Thanksgiving this year falls on the 27th of November.
Thanksgiving Day is traditionally a day for families and
friends to get together for a special meal. The meal
often includes a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry
sauce, gravy, pumpkin pie, and vegetables. Thanksgiving
Day is a time for many people to give thanks for what
they
have.
Thanksgiving
Day
parades are held in
some cities and towns
on
or
around
Thanksgiving
Day.
Some parades or
festivities also mark
the opening of the
Christmas
shopping
season. Some people
have
a
four-day
weekend so it is a
popular time for trips
and to visit family and
friends.
Thanksgiving Day has
been an annual holiday
in the United States
since 1863. Not everyone sees Thanksgiving Day as a
cause for celebration. Each year since 1970, a group of
Native Americans and their supporters have staged a
protest for a National Day of Mourning at Plymouth Rock
in Plymouth, Massachusetts on Thanksgiving Day.
American Indian Heritage Day is also observed at this
time of the year. The first Thanksgiving Day was held in
the city of El Paso, Texas in 1598. Many people trace the
origins of the modern Thanksgiving Day to the harvest
celebration that the Pilgrims held in Plymouth,
Massachusetts
in
1621. However, their
first true thanksgiving
was in 1623, when
they gave thanks for
rain that ended a
drought. These early
thanksgivings took the
form of a special
church service, rather
than a feast. In the
second half of the
1600s, thanksgivings
after the harvest
became more common
and started to become
annual
events.
However,
it
was
celebrated
on
different days in different communities and in some
places there were more than one thanksgiving each year.
George Washington, the first president of the United
States, proclaimed the first national Thanksgiving Day in
1789.

FACEB OOK
There is no one who has never heard of facebook. Some people like it, others hate it a lot. But what about our students at
school? We have asked some what they think of it.
Csongor Szaniszló:
I like Facebook because I can find everything on this website. I can also chat with my friends. It makes me remember
important events. I use it every day.
Rába Martin:
When I first heard about Facebook I thought it wasn’t good... But my friends persuaded me to register. At first it
wasn't as boring as it is now. Unfortunately today there are too many silly people on the Facebook. The website is
changing continuously. I'm an active user but I don't spend all my free time on it. I can rarely find an interesting article
that makes me happy. I like Facebook, because I can chat with my friends.
(Interview by Koller Krisztián 9.a)
Piri Máté:
"I like Facebook, because I can talk to my friends, but I don't like that the nine- year-old kids post a lot of meaningless
things."
Könnyid Bálint:
"The best thing is that you can speak with your friends, you can keep in touch with them, but some people share
everything, and post pictures with quotes, and it makes a lot of people addicted. I use Facebook two or three hours a
day to chat."

The History of Tea
(by Ödön Farnadi 10.a)
Drinking tea has always been an
important ritual in human’s life. We
drink tea when we are ill, when we
want to keep our health or just for
social reasons as part of an event. Tea
is basically originated from China but
today it is popular worldwide. However,
in ancient times, it was the privilege of
the rich; today everybody can easily
drink a cup of the magic drink.
Currently, tea is not associated with
illnesses; it is rather a ritual with the
aim of relaxing and just having fun with
our beloved ones. Have you ever
collected traditions or countries closely
related to tea consumption? Let’s see Britain and the socalled 5 o’ clock tea , which is a kind of pause and an
important social event.
What is more, Russia is also famous
for tea. There is a traditional tea
brewing device, called samovar, which
is the symbol of hospitality and
comfort in the country. And finally,
don’t forget the famous Boston Tea
Pa rty. No, it is not that kind of party
where young people drink tea instead
of alcohol. It was a political protest on
16 December 1773 when some,
disguised as American Indians,
destroyed a whole shipment of tea as
a defiance of the so-called Tea Act.
The British government responded
harshly, which led to the American
Revolution.
Did you know that it is very rude to drink your tea at
once? You should sip it slowly.

The Flag And The National Anthem Of Great B ritain
(by Dóra Havasi 12.b)
The United Kingdom has one of the most famous flags.
It is quite known in the whole world. It often appears on
jewellery, mugs, clothes, and on
everything that you can imagine.
People love this pattern.
The flag of the UK is a bit
complex. Nowadays it has three
colours (white, blue and red)
and some crosses. The basic of
the flag (so the background) is
all blue. On this there are the
crosses of England, Scotland
and Ireland. In the foreground
the big and red St. George’s cross is located. He is the
patron saint of England. Behind this the red and slant
cross is the St. Patrick cross, it belongs to Ireland. The
last cross, next to the previous is the St. Andrew cross.
It is white and it symbolizes Scotland.
Gap-filling task
The history of the flag dates back to 1603. At this time
England and Scotland were in personal union and they
had a king called James I (in
Scotland he was king as James
IV too) . He ordered to create a
joint flag. It used to be simple,
included just the crosses of
England and Scotland. Later in
1801 Ireland joined too, and the
flag got the final version. But
until 1908, it wasn’t official.
The flag has a unique nickname,
Union Jack. The part „Jack”
refers to James I, he probably had this nickname in
England. The Union also means the fact that the two
nations were united.
