Football Naming Rights and
Remembering David
I know that the sport is about as close to
a Texas tradition that you can get, but I am
so glad that football is finished for the year.
I mean, come on, football in February is
nonsense. It’s one reason I prefer the college
game over the pros. The college game is pretty
much done by Thanksgiving, or at the least the
first week of December, not counting the bowl
games. Even that endearing quality to the college version is in danger of a playoff. If teams
want to have a playoff,
they should quit playing in the Football Bowl
Subdivision and join those
playing in the already
existing Football Championship Subdivision. I for
one would work hard to
preserve the tradition and
integrity of the college
football bowls.
Naming rights to
Ken Petty college bowls have gone
overboard as well. The
Pillsbury Doughboy Dunkin’ Donuts ProFlowers FedEx Bowl is coming soon. I can feel it!
I’m thinking that if naming rights are so important, the companies should align themselves
with existing bowls that make sense. ProFlowers Rose Bowl, Imperial Sugar Bowl, Wrangler
Jeans Cotton Bowl, Pappadeaux’s Gator Bowl
and perhaps Doritos Fiesta Bowl would all be a
natural fit to their naming rights sponsor.
THEN THERE IS THE SUPER BOWL
The untouched and sadly appropriate
venue for naming rights would be professional
football’s Super Bowl. But with 30 second
commercials running up to $4 million dollars
a piece, the only possible Super Bowl naming
rights candidates would most likely be between
Sir Richard Branson, Warren Buffet or the US
Treasury as backed by the People’s Republic of
China. Somehow the Virgin Super Bowl doesn’t
quite fit the tough-character romance of the
event. Sorry Richard.
REMEMBERING DAVID
It’s been thirty years since we lost David,
also famously known as “The Bubble Boy.”
David Wetter lived his life inside a sterile
plastic bubble because he was a prominent
sufferer of severe combined immunodeficiency
(SCID), a hereditary disease which dramatically
weakens the immune system. David would have
been 43 years old this year.
OVER 600 LOCATIONS SERVED
The week that the Public News was printed,
I spent taking copies to almost every center of
business I could think of in Conroe, Woodlands, Shenandoah, as well as Spring and North
Spring. Over 600 places of employment got
New Memories Created at the Mitchell Pavilion’s
Prom Night “Feels Like the First Time” Gala
copies for everyone. Major foot traffic areas
got a small stack to pass to their patrons. The
response to the paper was overwhelmingly
positive.
The website stats showed that 2,234 copies
of the digital version of the Public News were
downloaded. That’s really good for a paper that
only had a three month running start. I have
to give credit to all the folks on Facebook and
in my inner circle, who took the news to their
inner circle and so on and so on. Thank you. It
was because of your belief in this project, that
inspired me to work as hard as I did to make it
happen. On we go.
SOME WILL, SOME WON’T, SO WHAT
Here is a little mantra of mine. I can’t
remember where I came across it as it wasn’t
original. But when it comes to businesses that
I approach about working together with the
Public News to help build up commerce in the
“Land Of Sam”, some just don’t get it. Some
really do and want to jump on board right away.
I don’t let it bother me. The reason is simple.
I know that my readers will let me know they
like the paper, and let my advertisers know that
they will support them because they support us.

Anything Goes is set aboard the ocean liner S.
S. American, where nightclub singer/evangelist
Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to
England. Her pal Billy Crocker has stowed
away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but
the problem is Hope is engaged to the wealthy
Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy
#13, Moonface Martin and his sidekick-in-
crime Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good
old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join
forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s
heart. Anything Goes is a shining example of
classic musical theater, complete with amazing
tap numbers, campy jokes, unlikely happy
endings and eminently hummable songs like
“De-Lovely,” “I Get a Kick Out Of You” and
“Anything Goes,” courtesy of the unforgettable

Imagine Harris County threatening the

Now, maybe it’s just me, but when Harris

Hospital. Even with auto and health insurance,
this cost me thousands of dollars. As I recovered from my injuries (broken bone in left leg,
head injuries, and missed work), I decided to
limp around and see if this is a shared perception of deficient services in the area. I am still
awaiting the police report I requested a month
ago.
It’s no secret that this area is trying to keep
up with explosive growth, but one must wonder if there has been adequate proactive steps
taken by our local governmental agencies. I
could go on and on about living in Spring ISD
and the continued drop in security and achievement here, but until more residents become
involved locally, I fear that our common belief
in lowered services while being charged spiraling taxes will only exacerbate. Quality of life
shouldn’t be decreasing when government
revenues are increasing locally. We are still a
republic (which means we have elected representatives who make these decisions).
With primaries coming up soon, candidates
for these positions (especially incumbents)
should be addressing these concerns. It is
up to us, you know “The People”, to sound
the clarion bell if it is to change. As we say
in the schools, “If you SEE something, SAY
something”, it’s what a functioning republic
requires.

COVER STORY
LOVE IS IN THE AIR... BUT THE LONELY HEARTS ASK...
HOW CAN YOU MEND
A BROKEN HEART?
1. It’s normal to want to have some cave
time and lick your wounds. Most animals
will retreat when injured. Set a time limit daily
to feel bad. Let loved ones know you need to
be alone for a set amount of time. Begin to
get outside, even if alone. Sunshine will help
tremendously. A daily walk will give time for
reflection.
2. Look to the future, but remember to stay
present. See your life as a timeline. When you
notice yourself drifting to “yesterday,” try to
gently bring yourself back to “today.” Pay
attention to your feelings, which are valid.
Check into your emotions daily; you will see
progress.
3. Journal about your feelings. Instead of
writing in a beautiful journal, with a fountain
pen and with your best handwriting, consider
using journaling techniques to heal. Take a
scrap of paper and the nearest pen or pencil,
time yourself 10 minutes and write whatever
comes to the mind. The idea is to release the
swirling thoughts and put them outside of your
mind, clear your mind, and then destroy the
paper. You can burn it, shred it, flush it, bury it,
but most important is to see it gone from your
mind, at least temporarily. When the negative
thoughts come back, repeat.
4. If you are having symptoms described
earlier in the article, and your heart is healthy,
then practice some deep belly breathing.
Pretend there is a balloon deep inside your
stomach and very slowly fill it up, hold it a few
seconds before releasing even more slowly.
The slower the better. This technique can also
help you fall asleep if you concentrate on the
breath. Breath-work can help re-regulate the
body to its normal state.
5. Taking care of yourself is priority. It’s
tempting to want to care for other’s feelings
during a time of heartbreak. Think of the
instructions from the flight attendant- “put your
mask on first before helping others.” Remember that your heart needs time to mend.
6. Don’t make it worse! Examples include
using food, alcohol, drugs (even over the
counter medications), to self-medicate. Other
maladaptive ways to cope include excessive
shopping, promiscuous sexual encounters,
workaholism, and using children as friends.
If you are doing any activity to “check out”
and avoid being present, pay attention to the
consequences of this behavior.
7. Let others help you, especially positive
and uplifting friends. Stay clear of people
who keep you mired in your negative
feelings. If you are having difficulty, seek
professional help, or join a support group. If
you are grieving a death, the Grief Resource
Center, in the Woodlands, is a good place to
start.
February will come and go. This too shall
pass, in the same way that dark and stormy
clouds pass over. Instead of avoiding the
month, treat yourself the way you wish to be
treated. Take yourself out for a nice dinner
or cook a special meal for yourself. Buy
yourself some flowers to admire. Plant some
flowers or a new fruit tree. Go see the movie
you have been waiting to see. Stop waiting
for others to make yourself feel better. You
can do this. You will heal, and you will begin
to feel alive again.

PUBLIC NEWS | FEBRUARY 13 - 26, 2014 | 7
For many people, February is the month
of Valentines, hearts, candy, and romance.
For others, Valentine’s Day could be renamed, “Singles-Awareness Day.” February
is a month full of reminders of loss, too.
Many breakups happen just after the fall
holidays and then, just when you think you
can’t hurt anymore, here comes Valentine’s
Day. The good news is that there is help for
those who suffer.
What is a broken heart? After a painful
breakup, divorce, or loss of a spouse, one
may feel as if “My heart is breaking!” Symptoms can include a pain sensation in the
heart, extra pounding, a stabbing feeling, for
example. Other areas can be affected such
as a hollow feeling in the chest or stomach,
throbbing in the neck, back or arms. All of
these are physical sensations that are clues to
what is going on emotionally.
It is imperative if a person is experiencing these types of symptoms with frequency,
they should seek medical advice, and
perhaps get a checkup with a cardiologist as
soon as
possible. Be sure to talk to your doctor about
recent changes in relationships.
Stress of any kind can cause a release
of hormones into the body. This can lead to
something known as Broken Heart Syndrome, which mimics a heart attack and in
extreme cases, could contribute to lowered
immune systems. This is why long term
couples sometimes die within the same year.
The Mayo Clinic describes Broken Heart
Syndrome as “a temporary heart condition
brought on by stressful situations, such as
the death of a loved one. People with broken
heart syndrome may have sudden chest
pain or think they’re having a heart attack.
Broken Heart Syndrome symptoms may be
brought on
by the heart’s reaction to a surge of stress
hormones. In Broken Heart Syndrome, a
part of your heart temporarily enlarges and
doesn’t pump well, while the remainder of
the heart functions normally or with even
more forceful contractions.”
The Bee Gees became popular in the 70s
with their famous hit, “How Can You Mend
a Broken Heart?” What does mend mean
exactly? When going through a loss, it may
feel as if you will never feel better again.
Mending requires some action steps. Below
are seven suggestions to begin feeling better.

ALWAYS PLUS ONE DAY
Featuring new work by Melinda Laszczynski
February 28, 2014 - April 11, 2014
Opening Reception: Friday, February 28th, 6-8p.m.
Fresh Arts presents “Always Plus One Day”
a multimedia exhibition by Houston based
artist Melinda Laszczynski. An MFA candidate
in Painting and Drawing at the University of
Houston, Laszczynski describes her collage
and sculpture as being inventive and poetic.
Using a wide-range of both traditional and
non-traditional materials including house
paint, tape, and spray paint, photographs
and discarded construction material that are
combined with paint skins, wax, and glitter
to create fragile or precarious assemblages,
Laszczynski creates dynamic visuals based
on elaborate personal narratives inspired by
everyday encounters. The public is invited to
a free opening reception with the artist at 6
p.m., February 28th at Fresh Arts, 2101 Winter
Street, Studio B11, Houston, TX, 77007. Free
parking is available.

“I collect things that have a history and
things that have a transitory quality”, says
Melinda Laszczynski. “Always Plus One Day”
embraces the melancholy of a longing for old
things by using memorabilia and discarded
items to create three dimensional collages that
are further accentuated by subtle, imaginative
nuances. The work is inventive and filled with
visual surprises and hidden configurationswhich Laszczynski hopes will instill a need in
viewers to revisit the work again and again.
“Always Plus One Day” is a poignant
tribute to a departing from safety, comfort,
and attachment in search of new environments
and experiences that are filled with promise
and healing. “The name of the exhibition is
inspired by a friend whose mother passed and
in her passing, he promised to ‘love her always
plus one day’. I was inspired by the idea of
remembering something that you love but not
dwelling in it”, says Laszczynski. Like the
disjointed shrouds of memory, “Always Plus
One Day” gives new meaning and purpose to
once abandoned and forgotten material.

don’t know your age or how you relate

soundtrack of my youth, along with The
Monkees, Buffalo Springfield, and The Byrds.
My life-long connection to The Beatles began
at 8 PM, February 9,
1964, at age 6, when my
family, like 73 million
other Americans warmed
up their TV to watch Ed
Sullivan.
The Beatles are a part
of every memory I have
from ages 6-12 (19641970). The second album
Scott Mandeville I ever bought was Magical Mystery Tour, which I
thought was Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club
Band due to its colorful cover. In 1969, I was
in London with the family and we passed
Apple Corps several times, as we traversed the
city.
In December, 1980, my sister and I attended a Beatles tribute band concert at the old

Coliseum in Houston. Later that night, as we
exited the show, we heard that John had been
murdered.
This morning in an effort to come down
from this past Sundays night’s tribute, which
left me tearfully nostalgic, I read a couple
reviews.
One of the reviewers was talking about The
Beatles Ed Sullivan show playlist, making the
comment about their second selection, “Till
There Was You.” This reviewer commented
on how it served as a palate-cleanser, between
“All My Loving” and “She Loves You.” Interesting comment, but I think that choice was
much more profound, when I think of the context in which that historic show was viewed.
That evening in living rooms across America, two, if not three, generations sat together.
After The Beatles unleashed their opening
number, speaking to the new generation, they
reached back to the older one with “Till There
Was You”, as if to subtly convey that there was
room for all in this new adventure that they
were taking us on.
And what an adventure it has been!
I want to make it clear that I’m not a
relationship expert. I’m not the female version
of Dr. Phil, spilling out a bi-weekly dose of
self-help advice that dictates how the greater
Houston population (and surrounding counties)
should live, or love. But I am an eternal optimist, and I believe that with the right timing
and after some tough lessons about love are
learned, the right one does in fact, come along.
So how do you deal if Valentine’s Day
shows up, but that ‘special someone’ hasn’t
yet?
February 14th is right
around the corner and
there’s no doubt in my
mind that most people
(even those of you that
are in a happy and
healthy relationship) have
mixed emotions about it.
Whether you love it or
hate it, there’s a commonality among all of
us, no matter what your
Heather Jackson relationship status may
be: Valentine’s Day puts
pressure on everyone to go “all out” if you’re
in a relationship. Or, if you’re single, it can
cause you to cope in one of three ways: land a
date, hide under the covers, or act like you’re
“above” this quasi-holiday altogether.
I’ve been there. Let’s face it, sometimes I
still feel like I am there.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, I feel the
pressure of “it,” like many others do—to buy
cards for loved ones, to make romantic plans
at a restaurant with dim lighting, to receive
flowers from a secret admirer. The pressure
surrounding this holiday are irritating, it’s true;
however, there’s a part of me that still wants to
belong to its ‘club’—the Valentine’s Day club,
the ‘I’m-part-of-an-amazing-relationship-andI-have-plans-on-Valentine’s-Day-club.
In honor of all you singles out there, this
one’s for you: Let’s stop dwelling on the
“What if’s” and “When will I,” and “Where is
he/she?”
Let’s stop feeling like we’re missing out on
something or that we’re lacking or “incomplete” without a special someone. This Valentine’s Day, let’s bring that sense of belonging
and feeling of love to us, simply by enjoying
the skin we’re in.
Forget the pressure this day typically puts
on you. Ignore the Hallmark ads. Give up
wondering where that perfect soul mate of
yours is and when he/she’ll show up. Instead,
remind yourself of the many ways you’re so
ridiculously loveable! Focus on what you do
have, no what you don’t.
Make this Valentine’s Day the day you love
every inch of yourself—physically, emotionally, intellectually, spiritually and mentally. What
makes you unique and beautiful—inside and
out? Take a hike, get a massage, or grab a drink
with good friends. By doing things that will
guarantee a “feel good” reaction, you’ll find
that you can really feel complete and loved—
with or without a partner by your side.
To those of you who are single, and those of
you in a relationship: Happy Valentine’s Day,
and may love follow you wherever you go.

Doerr recently re-felted a pool table to mirror his NFL Bronco colors.
But it’s the food that is the drawing card.
Doerr recently changed his menu, introducing a Mile High Burger of Angus Chuck Beef,
cooked with fried tomatoes, grilled mushrooms
and featuring a Mile High sauce that is a creation of one of his chefs. Topping that
burger is fresh mozzarella cheese.
“Of course, the Chili Cheese Fries
are something I always recommend.
Those and the Green Chili Burger,”
Doerr added.
Nevertheless, 3Bs is growing and
expanding, soon adding four draft

Doerr’s aspirations for football
remain hopeful, as he trusts his staff
to do well if he gets the call, but in
the meantime Ryan is bringing his

Katy native has made some long range
planning that led him to buy 3B’s Burgers
& Beer five months ago.
Starting out as a high school football
star, led Ryan Doerr to Kansas State where
he played for the Wildcats as a kicker,
graduating early and then being picked up
by the Denver Broncos before getting hurt
in the preseason.
But all that pales in comparison to what
he really loves, running a bar/restaurant.
“Yeah, in Manhattan I got into the
restaurant business and it was then that I
knew that when all this (football) was done
I’d get back to this.” Doerr explained.
Doerr has done just that. With his passion and love for what he does, he has slowly
built a great place to grab a beer, a gourmet
burger and watch a game. Any game.
“We have more than just football playing,
with ten television sets playing, there’s a lot for
everyone,” Doerr continued.

Y.O.L.O. Tandoory Taco Shows How
The North Spring eatery is a one-of-a-kind experience
It’s common knowledge that some restaurants are just not that exciting. McDonalds,
Burger King, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and the list
can go one forever. Boring, dull, lifeless; that
is until you step outside the confines of what
you are programmed to eat and try something
so crazy new, you’d wonder why it took you
so long to try it.
Enter an interesting twist on the taco theme,
Tandoory Taco and their motto, YOLO; You
Only Life Once. Why is this? How can tacos
be so exciting to draw such a title?
The North Spring eatery, just west of I-45
in the Sawdust plaza, is not like any taco place
you have ever been. Throw out anything you
thought a taco place should be, because Tandoory Taco will shatter those thoughts with the
most delicious food that bears the name taco.
Try this. There is a taco called the Texan.
The Texan taco is steak marinated in fresh
spices, served with cilantra and Himalayan
sauce. That taco was this reviewers first taco at
Tandoory.
My second taco was the Patriot, chicken
marinated in yougurt and spices cooked in
their clay oven, served with sauteed onions,
peppers with their Agro Tikka Sauce. The taste
of this taco was rich and flavorful with just a
hint of curry.
That is just two of the ten ‘named’ tacos
that Tandoory serves. The others; The Emperor
(lamb), The Convict (yeah, I blinked twice on
this one but it’s alright, it’s a shrimp taco),
The Woodlands, TX 77380
www.tandoorytaco.com
WE CATER!
The Surfer (fish), The Hippie (mushroom), The
Spitfire (chicken), The Brit (chicken tikka),
The Chola (cheese tikka) and The YOLO
(chicken kebab)
Tandoory is not just tacos. They also serve
a variety of kebab sizzlers, biryani seasoned
rice, Indian curry, Tandoory bread (aka Naan)
along with Tandoory’s four soon-to-be-famous
sauces.
North Spring is the launching pad for this
local restaurant which looks to expand soon
into the Frisco (Dallas) market.
“This location is not really a pilot location, we are just the first,” restaurant manager
Shawn Johnson explained.
With plans to introduce live music in the
near future, this is the taco place to beat all
taco places. Tandoory, remember that name.
Check out their fine lineup of tacos and other
food!

BIZARRE NEWS OF THE WEIRD
I’ve Got My Eyes On You & Other Idiotic Antics
I GOT MY EYES ON YOU
Yet another reason to wear glasses. After a
drinking binge, a Pennsylvania man decided to
remove his contact lenses to go to sleep.
After several unsuccessful and painful tries, he
decided to go to the ER. He lumbered in, complaining of severe pain while trying to take out
his contacts. They must have been pretty
busy, because a nurse tried to help to no avail.
Finally a doctor came in and discovered that
the man was not wearing any contacts. He
had been trying to rip out the membrane of his
cornea.
Man slips, falls 23 stories to his death. A
man cleaning a bird feeder on his balcony of
his condominium apartment in this Toronto
suburb slipped and fell 23 stories to his death,
police said Monday. Stefan Macko, 55, was
standing on a wheelchair Sunday when the accident occurred, said Inspector D’Arcy Honer
of the Peel regional police.”It appears the chair
moved and he went over the balcony,” Honer
said.”It’s one of those freak accidents. No
foul play is suspected.”
A terrible diet and room with no ventilation
are being blamed for the death of a man who
was killed by his own gas.
There was no mark on his body but autopsy
showed large amounts of methane gas in his
system. His diet had consisted primarily of
beans and cabbage (and a couple of other
things). It was just the right combination of
foods.
It appears that the man died in his sleep
from breathing from the poisonous cloud that
was hanging over his bed. Had he been outside
or had his windows been opened, it wouldn’t
have been fatal. But the man was shut up in his
near airtight bedroom. He was a big man with
a huge capacity for creating [this deadly gas].”
Three of the rescuers got sick and one was
hospitalized.
Paul Stiller, 47, was hospitalized in Andover Township, NJ, in September, and his wife
Bonnie was also injured, by a quarter-stick
of dynamite that blew up in their car. While
around at 2 AM, the bored couple lit the dynamite and tried to toss it out the window to see
what would happen, but they apparently failed
to notice that the window was closed.
A thief who sneaked into a hospital was
scarred for life when he tried to get a suntan.
After evading security staff at Odstock Hospital in Salisbury, Wiltshire, and helping himself
to doctor’s paging devices, the thief spotted
a vertical sunbed. He walked into the unit
and removed his clothes for a 45-minute tan.
However, the high-voltage UV machine at the
hospital, which is renowned for its treatment of
burns victims, has a maximum dosage of
10 seconds. After lying on the bed for almost
300 times the recommended maximum time,
the man was covered in blisters. Hours later,
when the pain of the burns became unbearable,
he went to Southampton General Hospital, 20
miles away, in Hampshire. Staff became
suspicious because he was wearing doctor’s
coat. After tending his wounds they called the
police. Southampton police said: “This man
broke into Odstock and decided he fancied a
quick suntan. Doctors say he is going to be
scarred for life

THE CARL EFFECT
Moving In Together & The
Long Distance Runaround
Carl,
My boyfriend and I have been dating for
seven months and we are moving in together
soon. Everyday I feel more and more uncomfortable about living with him. I’m only
nineteen years old so I feel like I shouldn’t be
worrying about this yet, but my mom really
wants us to get married and I don’t want to let
her down. I’m not sure if I
love him or if I just wanna
move out because of my
mom.
-Brianna
Brianna,
You wrote this as if it
were a complex situation
with many problems, however if you look closely it
Carl Palmgren
boils down to just one major problem that spawns
all of the rest. Here, I’ll give you a hint. It’s not
your age, moving in with your boyfriend, or
getting married. Have you gotten it yet? Well,
the truth is that if you don’t love your boyfriend
then none of the other things matter at all!
Deep down you know that if you loved him, you
wouldn’t mind moving in or your mom’s eagerness for the two of you to get married. Let your
boyfriend know that you need more time before
making a big decision like moving in together.
Any reasonable man will respect your wishes
and wait until you are comfortable with taking
the next big step.
-Carl
Hi Carl,
I’m in a long distance relationship and
I’m having major trust issues. My girlfriend
lives with her aunt in a different state and she
usually goes shopping for her once a week.
Recently she has been getting groceries more

than once a week because she forgot something
and she stays out for a long time, especially for
getting just a couple of items. Even though we
talk on the phone every night, the whole thing
still seems sketchy. I’ve tried to just let it go,
and I almost did until one night I heard a guy
say her name in the background while she was
“driving to get groceries.” I pretended to not
notice, but I no longer have 100% trust in her
anymore. I promised her that I would always
be there for her and I don’t want to break that.
Anyways, what can I do? Should I pester her
about it or just ignore it?
-Raymond
Raymond,
It’s quite kind that you still want to be there
for her, but to overlook whether or not she is
there for you would be a complete disservice
to yourself. Just because you promised to be
there for her doesn’t entitle her to free trust,
immunity from questioning, or irrevocable
loyalty. Why? Because if you trust someone
without letting them earn it first, you skipping the elimination process that weeds out
all of the people that will end up betraying
you. Giving someone immunity from questioning renders you blind to the inner depths of
their character. Are you scared that she will
blow up on you if you confront her? She’ll just
pull the “insecurity” card? Even if you were
completely insecure, that still doesn’t warrant
disregard for your emotions. In short, you must
confront her. Her reaction to your questioning
will say more about her than her words will
ever say. Just remember, liars hate earning and
maintaining trust.

BECAUSE WE’RE GUYS
REVISITING THE RULES FOR WOMEN
EIGHTEEN YEARS LATER
Eighteen years ago a viral email made its
way around cyberspace as a knee jerk male
reaction to a book written by a pair of women
for women called “The Rules”
“The Rules”, written in 1996, argued
that modern women had to relearn the art of
playing hard to get. Some enterprising man
returned the favor with “Rules FOR Women
BY Men”
Let’s visit a handful.
The writer begins his list of rules for
women by admitting that, “the accuracy on
these is uncanny... We always hear “the rules”
from the feminine side. Ok - we now hear the
guys’ side. These are our rules!
Please note ... these are all numbered “1” ON
PURPOSE!”
Ok, so we are about to embark of a treaty
of over 25 ‘rules’ that were designed to return
some resembence of balance in the rules each
gender posed for the other. Please note that
these rules are not designed to keep you out of
the doghouse, but to led a man to a long comfortable tenure on the sofa. Here we go:
1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You’re a big
girl. If it’s up, put it down.
1. Sometimes, we are not thinking about you.
Live with it.
1. Do not ask us what we are thinking about
unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as navel lint, the shotgun formation, and
NASCAR.
1. Sunday = sports. It’s like the full moon or
the changing of the tides. Let it be.
1. Shopping is NOT a sport, and no, we are
never going to think of it way.
1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely
anything you wear is fine. Really.
1. Crying is blackmail.
1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on
this one: Subtle hints do work. Strong hints do
not work. Obvious hints do not work. Just say
it!
1. We don’t remember dates. Mark birthdays

frequently beforehand.
1. Most guys own three pairs of shoes - tops.
What makes you think we’d be any good at
choosing which pair, out of thirty, would look
good with your dress?
1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers
to almost every question.
1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a
problem. See a doctor.
1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments
become null and void after 7 days.
1. If something we said can be interpreted two
ways, and one of the ways makes you sad or
angry, we meant the other one.
1. You can either ask us to do something or
tell us how you want it done - not both. If
you already know best how to do it, just do it
yourself.
1. Christopher Columbus did not need directions, and neither do we.
1. The relationship is never going to be like it
was the first two months we were going out.
Get over it. And quit whining to your girlfriends.
1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows
original default settings.
Peach, for example, is a fruit, not a color.
Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what
mauve is.
1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.
1. We are not mind readers and we never will
be. Our lack of mind-reading ability is not
proof of how little we care about you.
1. If we ask what is wrong and you say “nothing,” we will act like nothing’s wrong. We
know you are lying, but it is just not worth the
hassle.
1. I’m in shape. - ROUND is a shape.
I admit that I edited the list, so as to save
face for at least a few of us guys. The bottom
line is this, communicate with the one you love
and you won’t spend much time on the couch.
