Principal’s Message Dear Central-Emerson Families, As we walk into classrooms in our buildings it is amazing the level of technology being used every day by staff and students. As most of you are aware each room has a Smartboard – which is an interactive whiteboard, a sound field system and several desktop computers. In addition, many of our rooms have tablets which are used for independent practice and literacy groups. Also, many of our teachers use tablets for assessment and instruction. Both staffs are always looking for new ways to use technology to support and encourage student learning. There are several programs available for student use, based on age and ability. They include: Reflex Math, Reading Eggs, Accelerated Reader, World book Encyclopedia, Overdrive e-books, Nat Geo for kids and the district’s Destiny catalog. Our Teacher Librarians (Mrs. Granger and Mrs. Stewart) are teaching students basic technology, and research skills. Recently Snohomish passed a Technology bond and currently there is a team of educators and community members looking at where we are and what our needs and opportunities for technology will be in the future. It is exciting to see how these students are using these tools and resources in their learning! Kind regards, Heidi Rothgeb Craig Church Principal Principal Central Primary Emerson Elementary Emerson News ! 2nd Grade Visitation: Central’s 2nd graders will be visiting Emerson on June 1. Central Primary - Emerson News Please check the LOST and FOUND rack for your missing items. All unclaimed items will be donated to charity in June. Have you moved? Please make sure to update your telephone and address information with the office if you have had any changes to your contact information. Parents…PLEASE remember to use the crosswalk when dropping off and picking up your child. It is very dangerous crossing in front of cars, busses and waiting cars in our pull-thru area. Please help us to teach our students important safety habits. Thank you! Important Health Room Notice Any students with medications in the Health Room must have their parent pick up the medications on the last day of school, Friday, June 11, 2015. Any medications left at school after June 12th will be disposed of properly. If your child will be receiving medications during the school day next year, please make sure that the appropriate forms are completed by both yourself and the physician. These forms are available on our district website or in the Health Room. ! Central Primary - Emerson News As the weather warms please remember our school DRESS POLICY Extremes in fashions, which distract from the teaching/learning process such as cutoffs, halters, tops with bare midriffs, tank tops are not conducive to an educational environment. High heeled shoes, thongs and sandals could be dangerous at recess and PE and are best left at home. Girls and boys may wear walking shorts during warm weather. When standing erect with hands at the side, fingers should not be able to touch skin. Thank you. Volunteers/Parents In order to volunteer in the classroom or to attend field trips you must complete the attached State Patrol background check. It needs to be turned into our school office at least one week prior to being in the building or going on the field trip. The approval is good for two years and will stay on file with Central and Emerson. Thank you for your attention to this matter. It is our goal to ensure our students safety at all times and we are obligated to follow this district policy and state law (RCW 28A.320.155). If you have any questions, please call our school office at 360.563.4600. If you will be in the building during school hours, please be sure to stop at the school office, sign in and pick up a visitor badge. Safety is Our Focus We are concerned about your child’s safety. If you come to pick up your child at the end of the day, please park along the street in a legal parking area. We need to keep our parking lot open for busses to travel through. Also, PLEASE remind your children about the rules of safety when crossing the parking lot or the street. • Never walk between busses • Wait for a crossing guard to safely cross you • Cross the street only at crosswalks • Never run in front or back of cars in the street Encouraging your children to follow these guidelines, as we always do at Central and Emerson, will ensure their safety. Registration for 2015-2016 Please pass the word… register NOW for Kindergarten. If your student currently attends Central and will continue at either Central or Emerson next year, you do not need to re-register them for next school year. If your student will not be attending Central or Emerson next year please inform your school office as soon as possible. Parents have the right to request information on the professional qualifications of their student’s classroom teachers.
