The Josephites Most Pure Heart of Mary Church & School is a gospel faith community baptized into the life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We invite all people into a personal relationship with Christ through prayer, worship, stewardship and service to God and neighbor. Eucharist is the center of our faith and we celebrate our Catholic African American Heritage. We empower our youth to be gospel witnesses through faith-building programs. 304 Sengstak Street, Mobile, AL 36603 Website: www.josephite.com/parish/al/mphm/ E-mail: [email protected] Rectory: (251) 432-3344 Fax: 432-1192 School: 432-5270 By this all men will know that you are My disciples if you have love for one another. Not by how we understand family values. Not by our politics or theology. Not by how many Bible verses we’ve memorized, how often we attend church or how much offering we give. Rather, the song’s title and refrain say it all: “They’ll know we are Christians by our love.” Jesus put it this way: “Everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:35). Sometimes love involves words, teaching, proclaiming, and bearing witness to God’s presence. But if words aren’t backed by actions, they soon fall flat. We can, as the song says, “spread the news that God is in our land.” But if we don’t live like that, no one will believe it. When we declare God’s reality but withhold kindness from neighbors, observers rightly question whether we follow the God whose presence we announce. But “if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us” (1 John 4:12). Today we welcome Archbishop Rodi to our Parish for Confirmation. Our Candidates are as follows: Kristine Buck Thomas Bradley John—Henry Caponis Michael Griggs Robert Hollins Bryce Jackson Darnisha Perkins Artis Reynolds Amari Wilson Amelia Wilson Most Pure Heart of Mary Church will celebrate our Feast Day and Unity Mass on June 5th at 10:00am. This year’s theme will be West African Loveliness. We are looking for the oldest member of the Church and the longest married couple. Please contact Pat Lofton at 599-7561 to make submissions. The power of the first bishops? To whom did Christ give the power to teach, to sanctify, and to rule the members of His Church? Christ gave the power to teach, to sanctify, and to rule the members of His Church to the apostles, the first bishops of the Church. He who hears you, hears me; and he who rejects you rejects me; and he who rejects me, rejects him who sent me. (Luke 10:16) Did Christ intend that this power should be exercised by the apostles alone? No, Christ intended that this power should be exercised also by their successors, the bishops of the Church. And they prayed and said, "Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all, show which of these two thou has chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away to go to his own place." (Acts 1:24-25) Further reading: CCC 874-879 Leontyne Anderson, Celestine Brown, Cora Brown, Yvonne Thomas, Birdia Knights, Ruth Washington, Mary Cassino, Lionel Alexander, Mary Gable, Chester Rudolph, Cleo Allen, Ethelstine Bates, Madine Buck, Esther Patterson, Arilyn Leland, Norman Powe, Ruby Scott, Georgia Suggs, Pauline Brown, Robert Langham, Ann Heningburg, Mary Chestang Delores Langham Kierra Freed Christina Hubbard Lillian Sawyer Linda Thomas Della Lewis, Emma Jean Robinson Debbie Aldridge Harry Russell Early Registration will insure a seat for your child for the 2016-2017 School Year. Contributing parishioners receive a tuition subsidy from the Parish, making HOM the most affordable private Catholic School in South Alabama. Stop by the School Office and see what we can do for you, and for your child. Then make the all-important decision to give your child the very best. Most Pure Heart of Mary Budgetary Parish Goal The Parish Goal chart displays the 274 current families that are active members at HOM. If each person with envelop tithes at least $25.00 dollars a week, that is a total of $6,850 weekly income for the parish. With each family giving at least $100.00 monthly the income will be $27,400 and our yearly income will be $328,800. This goal can be easily attained if each family or household tithes the minimal amount. The profound generosity of very few parishioners is the reason the parish is meeting up with its basic operational expense. However, with the current trend of our tithing as evident in the weekly bulletin stewardship report, the parish is unable to maintain any form of Savings.
