St. Cecilia School began a journey this year of being “Led to the Holy Spirit,” our spiritual compass that points us in the right direction. He guided us to the manger during the Advent season, during which the students were introduced to the “Modern Madonna” art exhibit at the Musée du Sacre Coeur de Jésus. St.CeciliaSchoolcontinued the journey to Mardi Gras that led them to the cross. The art work of Georges Rouault was studied as his works depict the suffering and death of Jesus through the everyday faces of the outcast and downtrodden. Using the information gathered, the students and faculty took upon an endeavor in the form of a project based activity. Using art as a means to express their faith, each student and faculty member created an original piece of art, using varied mediums, representing their own vision of what it means to be “Led to the Cross.” The creations revealed the main teaching of our faith---that if we choose Christ, we choose the cross. Our sufferings are a way to be Christ-like. In our journey to the cross, the art work exhibited how we are to grow and move forward with the hope in what Jesus came to win for us through the resurrection. St. Cecilia School,in conjunction with Sacred Heart Parish, hosted their first Art Walk to share the beautiful creations with their peers, family and community members. Regional artists also came out to support the artists in their effort to share faith through artistic expression. As part of their continued work to foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life, the Serra Club of Lafayette annually honors outstanding Altar Servers from each Church parish. Sacred Heart has many outstanding altar servers and we thank you all. Please join us in congratulating Jaret Gary, son of Ray and Dawn Gary, who is this year’s recipient of the Outstanding Server Award for Sacred Heart Parish. Jaret is a senior at Comeaux High School and has been a very faithful altar server for many years. Bishop Jarrell will present the award to Jaret on Wed., April 15th, at Immaculata Chapel at 6:30PM. “Thank you, Jaret, for many years of committed service.” This Week’s Inspirational Quote: "Love yourself enough to never lower your standards for anyone." -- Author Unknown GOD’S WORD TODAY Easter changes everything. Listen carefully to today’s Gospel passage, and notice the fact that this account includes Jesus breathing on his disciples. The same Greek word for breathing used in this passage also appears at the very beginning of the Bible. There, in Genesis, the Lord God breathes upon Adam, giving him life. In the Gospel passage, through this act of breathing on the disciples, the risen Jesus gives them new life. What does new life in the resurrected Christ look like? We need only look at the first reading to discover what a community of believers acts like when its members are living lives in the risen Christ. As we prepare to listen to the scriptures, let us pray that the breath of God will fill us with new life and help us live like the early Christian communities, when there was no needy person among them.
