A Message from the Pastor Calling all Doctors, Nurses, or Spanish speakers Honduras Medical Mission Trip Read this Book for Lent! Sacred Heart is giving every family a free copy of this wonderful spiritual book for your Lent reading. This book will inspire you to be a better person, Christian, and Catholic. Mr. Kelly will remind you what you know in your heart to be true about actively striving to be a better person, but struggle to attain in our crazy and fast-paced world. With ease, he inspires you to embrace every gift given to you by the Catholic faith to help you become more spiritual, more fulfilled and truly happy. He beautifully intertwines Catholicism with our desire to be happy, as though you can't have one without the other. He revives the notion that religion can be used to help bring you closer to becoming the person God intended you to be, and ultimately bring you closer to God. This is not your typical book on Catholicism! Matthew Kelly was born in Sydney, Australia, where he began speaking and writing in 1993. Since that time he has travelled in more than fifty countries and spoken to over four million people. He has written twelve books which have appeared on the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestseller lists and have been published in twenty-five languages. His core message, regardless of whether he is speaking in a business, a school or at a Church, invites listeners to become the-best-version-of-themselves. Kelly convincingly communicates this message as God's desire for each of us. We are planning another Sacred Heart Medical Mission Trip to Honduras the week of July 22-29, 2012. Our last trip was a tremendous benefit to the needs of the people of Honduras. We assisted in the city of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and then operated a small clinic in the remote mountains, a village named La Fortuna. We work with local (Honduran) Catholic missionaries while there. First priority will be offered to medical personnel or Spanish speakers. We need help with some translation/ communication while there. If you are interested, please contact Fr. Louis Richard ([email protected]) or Colette Anzalone ([email protected]) at the church. Journey in the Footsteps of Jesus Holy Land Pilgrimage—November 2012 Fr. Louie is once again planning a Pilgrimage to the Holy Land this coming November 17-29, 2012. Anyone interested in learning more about this pilgrimage you can call or email Fr. Louie Richard for further information. There are still a few spots open for this trip. You will never read the Bible the same again! Parish Mission & Video Presentation of this Book Monday, March 12, 6:30-8:00 PM Tuesday, March 13, 6:30-8:00 PM Join us! Fri‐ days of Lent are also days of ab‐ stinence. Fasting is to be observed by all, 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed. Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, the parish priest should be consulted. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices Fasting allows us to be seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for in unity with the millions of children and baptism or of renewal of adults who are starving baptism at Easter. in our world.
