Building on our Faith - Sacred Heart of Jesus
A Message from the Pastor
New Year’s Mass Schedule
New Year’s is the Feast of the Solemnity of
Mary, the Mother of God.
With this Feast being on Saturday this year,
the “obligation” to attend is deferred to Sunday.
FEAST OF THE
Friday, New Year’s Eve
Eve--No Mass
HOLY FAMILY
“And the Word became Flesh
and lived among us.”
This is not about reflecting upon a "perfect
family," but to ask ourselves how we might be
blessed to reflect upon Joseph, Mary and Jesus,
and ask ourselves what graces they could offer
us. And, this allows us a bit more time to reflect
upon the Christmas story, including the everyday
reality that was part of their lives as family - the
patience, give and take, the self-sacrifice and the
love that was a part of their family human interaction together. That can include all the growing up years of Jesus' life, what their village was
like and what ways they spoke with each other,
as well as what difficulties they might have experienced.
We can imagine what Jesus learned from both
Mary and Joseph that prepared him for his life as
our Savior. Finally, we can imagine the death of
Joseph and the life of Mary and Jesus after his
death.
Let’s remember, too, that Christmas is a “season”
and not just a day. Since the days before Christmas were so busy for most of us, perhaps we can
use these “Christmas days” to enter more deeply
into the meaning of this whole season and thank
God for His precious gift.

Nearly all roof trusses are in place at this time and most
of the roof will be temporarily waterproofed within the
next week or two. Once the temporary water proofing is
on the roof and the remaining sheathing is installed on
the walls, the building is essentially "blacked in" meaning that some work may begin on the interior. Over the
next month, the permanent roof will be installed and exterior finishes will begin to show up. The project remains on track for completion near the end of the school
year.

Herod is going to search for the child
to destroy him.” Matthew 2:13-15, 19-23
History has been harsh on Herod, and rightly so. He accomplished much but at a tragic cost to others. He ordered the death of his wife, Miriam, and several of his
sons. He did not understand or accept the reason Jesus
came into the world and he sent soldiers to search for the
infant and kill him. Before we join in the condemnation
of Herod we should examine our soul to determine how
well we have fulfilled our responsibility to search for
Jesus so we can imitate him. Have we, in our own
way, failed to understand and accept the real reason Jesus came into the world? Paul offers us a way to
find Jesus and make Him alive in our hearts: “Put on, as
God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another . . . as the Lord has forgiven you, so
must you also do. . . and let the peace of Christ control
your hearts . . . And the word of Christ [will] dwell in
you richly.” Imagine a world in which everyone, including Herod and other powerful leaders, sought out and
imitated Jesus.
