Showupdate - Sewing Machine Traders Association
Organised by Endorsed by Supported by Held in Official Airline Technical Service Provider 2007 INTRODUCTION AAMA-TEX 2007, the 7th Asia Apparel Machinery and Accessories Exhibition, incorporating Textile Machinery and Accessories and Leather Machinery and Accessories is certainly the definitive one-stop venue for both buyers and sellers to do serious business in the garment and textile industries. With about six months to go before the show opens, many market leaders, including over 200 brand names, have already snapped up some 85 percent of available exhibit space. Participation from more than 250 exhibitors from 25 countries and regions, and the attendance of more than 6,000 top quality buyers from some 60 countries and regions are expected. Testifying to AAMA-TEX’s top-quality regional and international reach is its track record. AAMA-TEX has grown over the years in size, number of exhibitors and number of visitors. From a modest 6,500 square metres in 1989, when its first show was held, AAMA-TEX 2004 has grown to more than double that size to 15,000 square metres. AAMA-TEX 2007 is expected to equal that. The most important feature of AAMA-TEX is perhaps its ability to attract foreign visitors to the show. The last show, AAMA-TEX 2004 saw trade visitors from 52 countries and regions with 74 per cent of these visitors from outside of Singapore. A breakdown of foreign trade visitors by countries/regions is as given in the pie chart below. With South and Southeast Asia contributing the second largest chunk in the world garment market after China, AAMA-TEX 2007 remains the most relevant market place in South (SAARC region) and Southeast Asia (ASEAN region) for international garment manufacturers to meet key suppliers. AAMA-TEX 2007 will feature a comprehensive display of the latest and state-of-the-art garment manufacturing and processing technologies, systems and equipment. The safeguard memorandum of understanding signed between China and the US in November 2005 put into effect the reversal of growth of clothing shipments from China in volume and value terms in the US clothing market. As a result of this significant change, the first six months of 2006 saw volume of shipments from China fell by almost 15 per cent and the value by 11 per cent. Despite the negative effect of the memorandum on volume and value of imports from the world to the US in the first half of 2006 compared to the first half of 2005, most other Asian clothing producing countries have by and large performed very well. The second through tenth largest Asian producers by volume all experienced double digit growth in volume and the second through eighth did so in value terms. In contrast, China had double digit declines in volume and value over the same period. Of the major producers, Vietnam, Philippines and Hong Kong had the largest positive turnaround in performances relative to 2005 while Bangladesh, Indonesia, Cambodia and Pakistan continued to build on solid growth relative to 2005. India experienced a slowdown in 2006 compared to 2005 while Thailand had strong volume growth but low value growth. The ADB however, urges that now it is time for Asian countries to make necessary changes to further improve competitiveness – to proceed with unilateral reforms of both border measures such as tariff reductions and behind the borders barriers and trade costs which in turn would encourage the most efficient development of regional production networks and further boost development of consumer markets in the region. 4 EXHIBITORS’ PROFILE Altek Beissel Needles Limited Beissel makes quality needles, the old fashioned German way.
